Wow! That's a real eye-opener. I have a couple Hatsan bullpup PCP rifles. The user manual indicates that the air reservoir tubes have a 10 year lifespan, after which they should be discarded/replaced. Apparently, sometime after that period, a catastrophic failure of the air tubes is likely. So, if I ignore this manufacturer's guideline, now I know what could happen. Before today, I just imagined that the failure of an old air tube might involve stripping of the threads on the end cap that would convert the end cap into a projectile. Or, that the air tube may just split and the air content would escape...rapidly yet benignly. I did not envision an explosion involving fragmentation of the whole tube, with shrapnel flying in all directions.

Now, take a tube/tank, fill it with Oxyacetylene-gas, then top off pressure, and attempt the test again. [Just make sure that you're back ohhhhh I'd say about 75 yards. hahaha] We used to shoot all sorts of compressed tanks out in state land, and sever times, the explosions where So Big, they'd send fire/rescue units out to double check. Those were the days. =D I have these thoughts every now n' then when I look at the Double-700cc tanks that I have a my guns.. Eeesh! 😁
