One part of the world is struggling with hunger, but the other part is wasting tons of food. No one in this world should talk to me about justice, the blindfold from the statue of lady justice will never be removed.
The blindfold on Justice should never be removed, the real justice is done according to the rules, with impartiality, not disrupted by emotions or preferences like racial colors, ethnicity or financial situation.
Businesses have tried to give out free food to not throw away, but it results in much lower sales because people discover and exploit it, in 2 days a lot of employee’s family members and friends were waiting for the closing of the establishments. Free things that some pay is never gonna end well if the same people that pay could be the people that get it for free, learn that before saying non-sense.
Bro when I worked fast food our company policy was to pour chemicals over the leftover food in the trash can so people wouldn’t be incentivized to dumpster dive. Literally crazy considering how many people it could have fed. Like 100 people daily
@@ashlevoidno if they gave people the food instead of giving it to people they would not have business considering people would just wait until they close
If you guys wondering why they don't just give out free instead of trowing them away, is because if they give out free donuts during closing more people will stop buying donuts during business hours and wait for closing time to get free donuts.
Wrong, I worked at a fast food restaurant before and the reason we threw the food away is so people don't get food poisoning off the so called free food and sew the company for food poisoning
It’s because many people would wait outside just to get free donuts and they would make less money edit: I thought about it and in my country every store just sells the things 1hour before they close at a 80% discount so it’s really dump to throw it away
@@JoshxMemesit isn’t. Remember, they still have people to pay. They have to pay the rent of the building, give the company their share, pay the employees and save the rest for cleaning. If you lose too much they will be shut down by the company
@@JoshxMemes you only think the consequences in 1 week but if you see in 1 year you will see why they not gift the donut for free. Go to school and learn don’t just play tiktok And gifting the free donut to shelter will make the number of hobo’s (lazy people(ik some of them are unlucky but only like 1%)) Up cuss they know they will get free donut event when they just sleep at shelters.
@@JoshxMemesgiving the leftover away for free is also causing the company to go bankrupt, because people can just wait free food at the end of day while the restaurant sell nothing, meaning they get zero profit
For those of you who cant understand why they would do this its literally for profit not only does it cost money to give it out to homeless instead of throwing it away but it entices people to just get there and grab free food instead of buying it that'll ruin their business
Also they don't want to be liable for someone saying they got sick off old food. When my sister used to work at Starbucks she would bring a pretty good haul of unsold pastries home. Good times. Maybe places like that don't even let the employees take them home anymore.
@@Nekesu sometimes it just takes one bad apple to make that kindness gone There are some cases in my country that when the kid wants to buy some snack but the mother prohibits the kid from buying the snack, because if the seller still has leftovers they will give it to them for free because they are the seller neighbors, so why bother buying it? Another case, when the staff can bring leftover food to their home, but some staff abuse the owner's kindness, the staff proceed to sell at their home at a cheaper price. Or some staff purposely hide stuff so it becomes leftover and they can bring them home. And yet another case of the owner decides to give homeless people the leftovers, and then the homeless people begin to flock and stay back behind the store, make a mess and the potential customers are gone because they see a lot of homeless people flocking nearby the store. Or some people purposely eat the leftover food then sue the company because they are getting sick eating those food
Many grocery stores and restaurants throw away billions of dollars of food in a year, that's over a chain not just one location but all the grocery stores in a chain multiplied by every chain of grocery stores or restaurants.
Many states have added regulations that allow food banks/ pantry’s to Access these foods. The concern of businesses is that people will wait until end of business to get free food- going into their profits This method allows them to get tax write off for the donated food Non-profit agencies then need to quickly get these to places that can quickly use them
In Denmark we have a app and system that lets us place an order for "extra" product at closing time. So you come in at a set time (given in the app) and confirm you placed a toogoodtogo order and collect the goodie bag. (costs a small amount to purchase but they fill the bag with leftover goods at the end of the day.) I have had bags with 10x the price worth of goods in it. But also had crappy bags as well with barely anything in. (just never buy their excess again.)
I know that if they were to give food for free before closing, people would just wait before they close and ask for free food. But i think a better solution would be giving them to the needy. this ensures that people who can well afford them won't be the one receiving food, but instead, others who need it more will receive it.
@wofeigrhiwjphgs but it's their choice to eat it or not, so even if the ate it and got sick, they won't be able to sue them as they didn't pay or were force into eating it
Just as economy once said "The world has more than enough for us to be able to eat, yet we still experience poverty" and it's because of this, though we can't blame those company for their own policies
I don't know which part of your comment is the worst. You quoted "the economy" even though it's a human created idea, you then proceeded to misquote the real one by saying poverty instead of starvation which are entirely different issues, then you said it was because of business like these, but said we couldn't blame them!? Of course we can blame them!! Its literally the 1st part of the constitution! They are the ones who created policies that are unfair and wasteful, they are choosing to have people starve so we have the power to choose not to go there or speak out against it.
It makes sense in a business sense, because if you gave them out for free at the end of the day, people will stop paying and just show up for free doughnuts. But that’s such a ridiculous waste of food happening at EVERY Dunkin’ Doughnuts EVERYDAY. Absolutely crazy.
I saw a video where an employee threw a sealed plastic bag full of donuts into the trash and when the employee came back in, the guy filming the video grabbed the bag containing the donuts.
Correction: I saw video of an employee throwing a closed plastic bag full of donuts in the dumpster and when the employee went back inside the guy who was filming the video grabbed the bag of donuts.
@@ZayaanFaisal thank you i will edit it to that. Im from Finland and we are bit bad at languages so i make lot of mistakes. We have own school system. It have like 4 =F- to 10+ =A+ My english was 6+ so its D+
About 8-12 years ago (hard to remember, I was a kid.) me and my dad would go to my local Dunkin. He'd let us get whatever and choose how much we pay. We'd give him $5-$10. This was back when a big Mac meal was around $5.
It's a matter of legality. If a homeless person gets sick, they could sue. Another reason is that it attracts homeless to your business and scares off customers.
@@thereallonefallout1920 If they can't afford 5$ donuts don't even bother find lawyers. If the person acknowledge the food was no longer good it would be justified they know what gonna happen. That mean they are the one gonna be taking the responsibility.
if they did then the homeless would've just expected it everyday and what's good a shop if you can just get thing for free? not trying to be a jackass or smth.
That is honestly terrible to think of... In Portugal every food business and supermarket actually has contracts with organizations that give all of the leftovers to the people in need
I think the reason they throw the leftover donuts rather than handing them over, is to avoid getting sued by random people left and right who are allergic or just assholes.
There was this little caesars in Sun Prairie wisconsin that at the end of the day instead of throwing out the unsold hot and ready pizzas they donated them to the food pantry across the street
@@8prct Bro I guess it don't make any sense Eg: If you buy the food then you won't get food poising but if you get it for free then you will Either the food in fast food chains are worthless or they gave people unhygienic and expired food
@@kanha3548shut up. the donuts in Dunkin’ aren’t like Krispy Kreme. Dunkin’ intends for them to be eaten quickly or within a day or 2 but kept in the package. When left out, they have risk of being resold unfresh, bugs attacking or simply going bad.
Society need to discover a way so that these fast foods stores cant waste food. There are so many people who are sticker with food and now what? Like some percents are thrown away in the day? Such a waste.
Yeah but if they give them away for free it would cause a Communism effect where in people will rely on free food, which is more bad than some wasted food
For people who think these businesses are horrible, its pretty much business, because if food was given away during closing, a whole bunch of people would just wait for free food
The reason for this is because if they give it to the homeless, it might trigger someones allergy and eventually them(the homeless) dying and they can get arrested or sued
I feel like they should be donated, either to the homeless or places in need (including other countries). The government could also perhaps help motivate this to businesses with tax cuts or compensation.
And it would ruin business becouse they will defenetly take advantage of it becouse you can't have kindness in this world it dosnt work most of the times
Why would they get sick if it were completely normal donuts? There would be no link to the donuts causing their sickness and would very likely lose the case. Not to mention no one in that is a decent person would sue after getting regular donuts for free.
@@elegalrupzz do you even know what your talking about? There is no way in hell a person could sue for billions or even millions over a singular food allergin or food poisoning case. The legal bills would be absolutely absurd for the party that sues and the result would very likely be in favor of the business.
The main reason companies do the task instead of donating is because we live in a site happy culture. Blame the symbol person who sued fir burning their lips on hot coffee or for getting a brain freeze for inhaling an slushie etc. If they dinar their for them some homeless guy gets a tummy ache he could sue so instead he gets to starve now instead of taking that chance
Yall dont understand why they throw it away If they give it to people then people wont buy anything they will just wait for the end of the day Meaning if they give it out, they will go bankrupt Money is the problem
@@kaushaljain9950I'm going to leave another comment that explains why this reasoning is flawed, but I'm confused at why everyone uses this arguement when it's so easily fixed. It's actually annoying because I feel like people just jump to defend the big conglomerates because they feel like they are either being "bullied" or that they are "trying their best" or maybe believe that one day they will own a business just as large. For the first two reasons I'm just going to say that business that have owners who worry about whether they should have 1 or 2 private jets are not victims. And for the third reason I'm just going to say up to 90% of start up businesses fail.
I used to work at Taco Bell and the only things we throw away are orders for delivery or mobile orders that don’t get picked up and taco shells that can’t be used. Everything else gets carried into the next day.
I worked at Dunkin and me and my coworkers use to get a clean bag dump the donuts in there then put it in a clean place in the little trash house outside have another guy pick them up and we would give them to the homeless in Washington DC
Bro, just go to the trash can behind a Dunkin’ Donuts when they’re throwing them away. Wait until they throw them and leave and then go to pick them up.
Just wanted to say, part of the reason why people don’t donate isn’t because the people are afraid of losing money, it’s because they risk getting fired if their caught giving away or donating food.
Fast food places don't allow giving it away, because they don't want legal trouble, if people start to get sick, fast food on shelf can last up to few hours, after that they must throw them out, because taste changes and any possible health hazards 😅 I've digged into it a little 😁
Here in Pakistan when bakeries are about to close and I'm talking famous bakeries like tehzeeb, they're open till like 1am or smth and then near 12am they put out stuff on trays and hand them to any customers for free around 11.30-45pm toll they are closed. 👍🏻
I actually know the reason they do this. If for example a homeless person asks for a free donut, and that homeless person gets sick even if it is not from the donut, Dunkin WILL be blamed for the situation even if it wasn’t the donut that caused the illness. If you pay, however, their Terms of Service apply making sure they don’t get in legal trouble. This is at least the law where I live
The reason they do this is because they used to give extras away for free and them there were several malicious lawsuits for food poisoning from the free food
@@bentleydooky8691 I take opportunity ask them while ordering glazed strawberry donuts yesterday 😅. They said they did use soap and water to dispose the donuts because there's raccoon keep going into the trash
For anyone wondering I work at a local Tim’s and the reason we don’t give away the donuts late is because we used to give them to the homeless but it ended up having people wait till we closed to get a donut and just losing business and the reason we throw them away is because they harden overnight or even after a couple hours
In the netherlands its normal to give the food to charities or shelters. If you don't do it but throw it away you will get extra taxes. so nearly every business will reuse food
Thats fair, if people were to give these out by the end of the day, people wont buy them and instead just ask for them when they close. But they shouldn't throw them away either, they should give them to the needy.
For all people who thinks its a waste: if they just give these donuts for free no one will accually buy donuts for their price, they could sell the donuts or throw them away.
That is the most half assed arguement I've heard for their side, if you thought about it for 5 minutes you would've realized there are easy ways to prevent things like this. The business could set a standard where the restaurant has to sell a certain amount of the food like 90% or something to give the rest out for free. This way the business still makes profit, the people who need the food still get to eat, and there is no food waste when there are starving people at the doorstep. This also prevents any shenanigans like what you proposed because if this happened they wouldn't meet the quota and would just throw it out with chemicals or what not like usual. And if your thinking that people would just stop buying after the 90% quota was reached, how in the world would they know that!?! It's not like they work there or know how much the business has in stock so the majority of people would just buy from the business as normal, and the amount of food that would be eaten instead of thrown away would be roughly the same. There is no excuse for greedy businesses like these, because the businesses also already know these solutions! They have thoudands of people who could easily think up the same solution as I, but they don't implement it because they are scared it might take a 1-2% cut from their net income. They could easily give dozens of starving people food per location per day with minimal impact on their profits, but they decide that since the public doesn't seem to care they shouldn't either.
