They're only standing still because their Ai is set to turn on when the fog gate is entered.

I mean, small dude left with the rest of the Gods. Snorlax's weapon indicates he's "the last" to protect Anor Londo. So the real people in Anor Londo are the firekeeper, Gwyndolin and Snorlax.

He didn't leave with the gods tho. Him and Smough were ordered to guard the cathedral when the gods left, but after an unknown amount of time, Ornstein abandoned his duty as a guard and left Anor Londo to look for the nameless king, leaving Smough as the last guardian as he remained there until the events of DS3, when he was (presumably) devoured by Aldrich as we can find his hammer in Irithyll and buy his armor after Aldrich is defeated. We don't know if the Ornstein we fight in DS1 is the real one (before leaving Anor Londo) or just another Gwyndolin's illusion (after leaving Anor Londo).

This obviously isn’t supposed to happen but it’s still a cool thing. In the lore Ornstein dose leave searching for the Nameless King, leaving Smough as the last knight to uphold his duty. So only seeing him standing alone in the dark is dope

I honestly thought there was a secret way to kill Gwynevere before the O&S fight, and by doing that the illusion of Ornstein would vanish too.

Ornstein is not an illusion. The soul you get from him there is real, and Smough's soul alone cannot be big enough to substitute for that. The armor set you find in DS3 is likely from another "follower" or "impostor" of Ornstein's who got his set of armor and went to Archdragon's peak. The real Ornstein's trip there could've happened at any time, as we're not given a timeframe. It could've even happened before DS1, after which Ornstein returned to Anor Londo empty-handed.

@@shadowgunner1076 If he gave his entire soul to Gwyndolin, he would've died. If he gave only a part of it, like Gwyn did when he gifted a piece to the Four Kings, it wouldn't have been big enough to be so bright and powerful as we see it in-game. There might still be some sort of explanation or workaround, but the more constraints you add to a theory, the less likely it is to be true, and at the very least, there is no decisive evidence that could put an end to Ornstein is real vs. Ornstein is an illusion debate.

I think it's actually cooler than you don't see Ornstein first. Makes him seem way more threatening. Imagine your first time playing, you just beat Smough (Except let's say the fight is tougher than literally just Smough). You wipe off the sweat wonder where to go next, and then suddenly this dark figure comes down, consumes Smough and now you've gotta do round 2 with some powered up fucko that you haven't even seen until now.

Is that super-Smaugh? This is actually kind of awesome because the lore community always suspected that Ornstein had actually left anor londo also, due to ds2 and especially ds3, since he was actually like an elite guard or whatever with artorias, gough, and ciccerrrceriaireceria or whatever. Super cool. If there was a way to do this legit by sneaking past ornstein and smaugh and killing gwyniviere, and then immediately have to fight super smaugh on the way back if you kill her, that would be awesome.

You don't have to kill her first for them to stand there like that, it's the fogwall that triggers their AI. I have a troll video I made like 6 years ago where I warped up there and did the same kind of thing. Look up MrAdversary Dark Souls How to beat O & S the easy way Cool to see this though! I didn't think about killing her first to see what would happen. Looks like it's just the same thing, except in the dark. lol

Played DS1 recently. I really like Ornstein's armor. Just sucks that to in order to obtain it you have to make the fight 10x harder. Ruined my day

Honestly, this video kind of fails on what happens if you do kill the illusion since the fight never got properly triggered. Oh well, you can always try to do this again later on.
