I've had TMJ (TMD) 3 times in my life. Here's some questions to ask a patient: have you had a rolfing session recently? (some rolfers don't do a good job when adjusting a patient's jaw; this caused my TMD. Next, have you had any temporary crowns come out? This caused my TMD. Last, do you wear a full face CPAP mask? If too tight, will cause TMD.
How do you know if it comes from a stress management or postural or grind issue ... I saw a specialist and she said there’s no way of finding out what the cause of my issues is lol

Hi mem.. I'm from India. My son is 14 years old.. He has TMJ problem last two months. Not a major, But when he opens his full mouth, at that time he is feels pain at right side near ear (TM joints) and beard is turn slightly right side at last. He eating and speaking normally. No any other pain. He do his all works very well. Doctor say that right side TM disc is slip from TM JOINTS. He suggest for surgery.. Mem I'm not want to go for surgery.. Mem.. Please tell me, what am I do..??? How to set disc fix at proper without surgery.?
A hard plastic mouth guard was a game changer for me. You can get the professionally fitted. I chose to get one from the pharmacy that I fit myself. It took quite a few tries to get it right with my bite in a neutral position while lying down (your mandible sits differently sitting vs lying). Surgery is an option but there are many things such as PT, bite guards, orthodontics etc that you can try first!
