Let's take a closer look and see what happens to the gameplay in Paper Mario: The Origami King if we edit the game's save data to clone partners. We can clone Bowser, Luigi, and other partners without much difficulty, but there's some trouble when trying to clone Bobby, so we have to take an in-depth look at that in another video :) In this video, we take a look at what happens if you clone every partner except Bobby the Bob-omb, so make sure to subscribe if you'd like to see a video like this specifically about Bobby :)

The gameplay and cutscenes in Paper Mario: The Origami King are interesting when we have cloned partners, and with cloned partners, you can bring followers to places in the game they normally wouldn't be able to see. We also explore what happens in battles in The Origami King when we have access to these partners. What if you had Bowser unlocked for battles from the beginning of the game?

CORRECTION: Thank you so much to everyone who has pointed out that regular Bowser doesn't show up in battles, only Folded Bowser! I was thinking that regular Bowser also shows up in battles for some reason! As another example, Luigi can be a follower, but he doesn't show up in battles, just like full-sized Bowser, even though Luigi isn't very large. @@PROPLAYEN Everybody makes mistakes :) The more content you put out, the more likely you are to eventually make a mistake. It was late when I was working on this, I remember Bowser helped in some fights, and for some reason I incorrectly remembered that unfolded Bowser could also help it fights. It goes to show how malleable memories can be, and this wasn't even by someone else's suggestion!

@@MB-fx6vb It's possible, yeah! You'd need to do some workarounds for some cutscenes because partners and dialogue being triggered in cutscenes can cause game crashes if you don't have the right partner with you :)

Regular bowser doesn’t show up in battle because when you get him normally in the game, he won’t backtrack with you from the stapler room and there’s no regular battles after the stapler fight

The only followers who appear in battle are the ones that join over the course of the plot, including Bowser Jr., and the Spike and Bone Goomba from Autumn Mountain. (Technically, you can also bring in Feelin' Fungi, but all they do is cower in fear.)

Unfortunately, there's a 4 member limit. Mainly because the members of Feeling Fungi can be seen in battle, and is the most partners you can have. Also Luigi and Unfolded Bowser don't fight because they cant be used in Combat in their programmed areas (The Final Corridor for Bowser and Mushroom Island and walking up to Peaches Castle both times with Luigi.) So the devs didn't give them moves, and don't appear in Combat. BTW partners do nothing in Boss Battles because they only fight in Ring Battles, so they just stand in the middle of the ring clipping through the boss.

Really interesting! I think the reason Bowser doesn’t show up in battles is because he’s not programmed to show up in regular battles, at least not the unfolded version of him. So he doesn’t have any code for that anyway. Also, obligatory “OMG BOBBY PLEASE I WANT THE BOBBY VIDEO PLEEEEEEEASE!!!!111!111” comment, because that would be very cool :)

He has an attack though. He has Bomb Bump, which does 20 damage to a single enemy.

No the reason why unfolded bowser doesn’t help you in battle is because unfolded bowser only appears after you fight the stapler, and he doesn’t leave that room or the stairway to king olly afterwards. since there aren’t any non-boss battles in the stapler room or the stairway to king olly, unfolded bowser isn’t programmed to do anything in battle. try doing it with folded bowser ie the follower you have prior to the stapler boss.

Some partners were never ment to fight. Luigi is gone almost as soon as you get him in multiple situations, and while he's with you, it's impossible to encounter anything. That's why he never shows up in battles. However, some like Bone Goomba, although you don't have him for long, it is possible to encounter things, so he shows up. That could be the explanation.

Might of been scraped maybe because story line and such originally in game he was the one that told you that he was waiting for his Buds “Spike and Bone Goomba” their might have been a 4th member in the Canned food party that might have explained were the other three went into the tall grass. I’m guessing they might of scraped it cause their being to many members to find in the tall grass possibly and seeing how speed up it was just to find the Bone Goomba and Spike it makes sense that they didn’t want to make the event to long. It could of also became scrapped because they might of needed a character to interact with Bobby since both him and the Sombero guy interact when Bobby gets lost in the tall grass. If I were to guess this partners attack I think he would of thrown his Sombero at the enemy’s seeing how both Bone goomba and spike use their attacks as they did in Color splash. It’s sad to see how they scraped him though this could of been the First debut of a shy guy partner even if it’s a minor character that probably stay with you for little of the game

There actually is a glitch to clone Bobby and I’ve tried taking a couple of them through the game and I was able to beat the yellow streamer with a 2 bobbys in my party still, but sadly the purple streamer will soft lock you until you get rid of the bobbys by visiting autumn mountain because by having Bobby on the boat, the game decides to not allow you to use the submarino to dive, which you need to progress, I don’t really see a way around this until somebody figures out a way to clip past the door leading to the purple streamer but I feel like that would have some dire side effects. Also if you do decide to clone Bobby via the Bobby clone glitch be sure to never visit autumn mountain via faxing, the boat, or the tram, after Bobby is killed in the cutscene, as it will remove all of your Bobby clones and you won’t be able to make more clones outside of the area. You can still visit shogun studios though.

I think the issue with Bowser as a follower in battle us that he only appears in battle as a pizza box. Normal Bowser doesn't join any battles because there aren't any battle between him being unfolded and the final boss.

Unfolded Bowser most likely doesn’t appear in regular battle because you weren’t meant to take him anywhere else besides the final battle so they just didn’t bother putting him in battle.

I think the issue is big browser doesn't have any battle code. The only time you see him in gameplay is when your about to fight king olly.

Yeah, we can do that! I've found a few workarounds to take Bobby basically anywhere :) Some are possible through hacking the game, some through regular gameplay glitches

Some followers have attacks (Kamek, Folded Bowser, etc), some appear in battles and don't attack (like Green Toad), some don't appear in battles at all (full-size Bowser, Luigi, Sombrero guy)

I think you'd have to mod to get that done, I don't think it could be done in just the game's save data. The easiest workaround that I can think of is having an unfolded Bowser that turns into a folded Bowser during battles

The explanation for Full-sized Bowser: When you defeat the stapler boss, Bowser gets into full-sized bowser. The Stapler boss-fight I'm pretty sure is the 2nd to last battle you go in, so the only battle you're in with full-sized browser is King Olly. SPOILERS FOR FINAL BOSS: In the second phase, Bowser turns origami and battles Olly, as you may know. That's the reason why fullsized-bowser doesn't appear in battles.

Yeah, only by editing the game's save data as far as I'm aware. Maybe he was originally planned to also be a follower like spike/ the bone goomba. The sombrero guy isn't scripted for any battles though, so he also disappears during battles

The game makes cloning Bobby difficult (and you can run into some issues with Kamek/ Bowser Jr too), but every other follow can be made unlocked without too much difficulty

I wish I could, but both of them don't appear in battles! It's the same as the unfolded Bowser partner, they're not scripted to be in battles, so they disappear temporarily while you're in a battle and reappear after the battle

Great question! The answer is yes or no depending on what we want to do: If we replace the sprite files of one partner with that of one of the bosses and rename the files, then we should be able to do that. Some of my friends have replaced normal enemies in the game to make them look like bosses 😂 If we want a boss follower with any kind of functionality, then not yet!
