My great grandmother was not much of a drinker, but every single night before bed from the time she was young until she died she slugged a glass of whiskey. She maintained great health and appetite and was still out dancing until she died at 102.
@@Mark-ww1ii she didn’t drink alcohol otherwise. That was it. Never impacted her in any way, it’s just how she did it and she was incredibly healthy. I believe it was an old-world Austrian thing as she started it when she was young.
What a great story! I just spent five weeks in Australia in February 2023 and it was customary to have a whiskey before bed. My host was also of Austrian descent. Coincidence?
I allow myself one drink a day, of whiskey, I'm in my 60's, so far my Dr. has been unable to find anything wrong with me, so here's to my one drink a day, speaking of which, it's time for it.
I can tell what drinking bourbon every night does to my body. It helps me decompress and deal with all the assholes from my job so I can go back the next day and pretend to give a damn. I had to update... 6 months after the original post, still drinking the bourbon but no longer pretending to give a damn.
I've been drinking Jack, Wild Turkey, Beam, and Old Grand Dad at night, 2 shots. It has got me off Metformin, blood pressure pills. Lost weight. Moderation is key.
One of my favorite things about drinking bourbon is that it isn't refreshing and doesn't quench your thirst like a cold beer or glass of water would. So I end up reaching for a glass of water more often and it keeps myself in check while sipping! 🥃
Been drinking a couple glasses of whiskey with ice for 2 years every night cause it relaxes me, haven't been sick of anything so far since, just Jim Beam or Red Label 🔖
I take a deep breath and am struck by a heavy and rich scent. A lot of oak comes out, like soft gingerbread cookies. I feel dried fruit with floral perfume streaks. And a sucking deep strangeness with a little bitterness. A little manure tones too. Interesting, it is neither bitter nor sweet. A mighty, swimming sweetness in the beginning. I'm thinking of an English fruitcake. Then it turns and becomes dense, but annoying ectons. Wood tones, spiciness and bitter almond. The aftertaste offers marmalade tones, sherry and green tobacco. so it is incredibly possible and full-bodied. It is unexpectedly drinkable, you can really hang out with it. I expected it to taste more American I then carefully pour a drop of water into the whiskey glass. It tastes dirty, smoky and oily. It is a chemical process that takes place over the years. The "dirt" comes from phenols, smoke particles, which in turn come from oak. - After drinking as much whiskey as I have done in my life, I would say that it is spectacular. And hot, virile war whiskey
mike landry Oh it will if you drink too much lol. And ANY amount of alcohol, whether it be a drop or a whole bottle, it’s a carcinogen (cancer causing) no way around that one. You can get various organ cancers and mouth cancers.
Your right theres also another study published around 1 year ago that found out every amount of alcohol will lower your lifetime. They said it doesnt matter how small the amount is. In the end there are studys that say its good for yourself to drink 1.5 ounces 4 days a week and there are some that say you shouldnt. In the end I will still Drink my 1.5 ounces each day. Its something i enjoy doing. Isnt that the most important thing when it comes to decide what your going to do? In the end its your life and you wont look back saying "damn i did so much things i didnt enjoy why have i wasted my life". In the end it comes down to the clause: do what you enjoy and you will have a good life. For sure dont be excessive but dont limit yourself.
@@HiroofDeath its better than what ive been doing for the last 10 years. drinking about 1.5 litters of soda daily now its just a neat pour of whiskey. ive completely kicked soda at this point. however you either get busy living or you get busy dying.
I just recently became a whiskey lover! I'm in the 30s age group unfortunately, but I can happily say my parents taught me "all things in moderation!" Typically I'll make an Old Fashionedl or maybe drink a shot of whiskey once a week normally. Maybe twice a week if work is especially crappy.
I started drinking whiskey when I had the flu. I hated Nyquil, and all the other flu and cold meds because of side affects. It helped better than anything else. But, I also found it helped my RA. I now have a drink 4-5X a week, and at night only.
I have gum sores due to cancer treatment. Sip a shot of Jack nearly every night. Really helps with the discomfort and bleeding. I pour myself a shot about 7pm and sip it over the next 2 to 3 hours. Really helps!
I drink about a half glass of diet tonic a night as I watch TV which avoids my leg cramps in my sleep. With less than an inch of gin and some ice added. A beer with lunch and dinner with flavor like a bock or Oktoberfest . But I’m a heavy man in my mid 70’s. Hate being drunk.
I've been on the 100 proofs lately, Rye and Bourbon mostly, stands up to dilution better if you have it on ice, and still great in a cocktail. Gotta find a nice 100 proof scotch that isn't too pricey.
I drank Maker’s during COVID. I never got infected. All while traveling on airplanes, in hotels, restaurants, shook hands and washed them occasionally. Thank you.
Fun and informative! As a whisky lover and critic of the stuff, my recommendation is to be like both a kid in a candy store and the mother watching over them at the same time. Go for variety, go for unique and different flavours, but put a limit on how much you drink. Pour a half ounce or less in each glass and try just 3 or 4 varieties on a typical night. More if it’s a special occasion and less if you’re feeling a little off. Cheers🥃🥃🥃 Mark
I find once I started getting nicer bottles I simply wouldn't drink too much because not only was each taste increasing in price but because the bottles are rarer so you don't want to maybe not have that SPECIAL one.
"whiskey makes you loose weight" yeah true based on my experience on vomiting , which i saw parts that includes breakfast , lunch , and dinner. just sayin'
My dad drank every day in moderation, never saw him drunk, lived into his 90’s. So do I at 76 and hate being drunk, which is very seldom. My father-in-law was a recovered alcoholic, my wife drinks in moderation, but my five kids are alcoholic in middle age. Mostly under control now. Seems to be genetic. My side of the family is mostly German.
If a person has a close relative that has had a chemical addiction they have an 85% chance of becoming addicted. If you have no close relative that has been chemically addicted as I remember they have only an 8% to 10% of becoming addicted. Moderation in all things, and even moderation should be moderate. I think. I don’t drink any more but I don’t drink any less either.
Every days is not moderation, means alcoholism, you probably never seen you loser dad straight. You only drink everyday when your trying to escape real life. Must of hated his family. It’s not genetic you goose it’s called bad parenting. You could of broke that cycle but unfortunately for your kids you were to weak minded. Good job bud
I'm a "Sinle Shot Sipper"....every night. About 1 hour before bed time, it's relaxing, and enjoyable. Never an excess drinker....I think it helps my circulatory system, and my joints. Gets the blood to my old bones a little better helping arthritic joints.
Richard Overton lived to be 112. He smoked several cigars a day, had a glass of whiskey and at the end of his day had a bowl of butter pecan ice cream. For those that dont know, he was a WW2 Vet. Edit to smoke from drank cigars....I guess I had to much to drink lol
De Vdka, I am quite sure Whisky is one of the best medicine in the world, a German doctor discovered this accidentally when he gave it to his patients, and he was cured instantly. He then helped many people, the pharmaceutical industry went after him, and you know the rest of the story. Whisky was made to sanitize the equipment in hospitals, as well as toilets and sores on people, drinking Whisky is a blessings for me. I no longer take high blood pressure medication, I am a pretty lady, healthy, in my 70's, I am full of vitality, and I am very active. God blessed Whisky. Blessings to you.
I started having a Jack and Coke nightly for the past month. I've been playing mr mom and by the end of the day, I need to relax. I also have rheumatoid arthritis. A drink helps dull down the pain enough to help me sleep without making my groggy like meds do
A common trait among a lot of people who live into their 100's is a shot of whiskey every day.... it works for me....a slight glow before bedtime helps me sleep soundly

Moderation is the problem - at 1.5 oz, that’s hardly worth the bother, IMO. I like 3 of those in a glass and then nurse it for awhile; however, that’s not moderation
I started dring whiskey with ice and lots of water during the day. Makes me feel very good. I don’t feel drunk. Just very relaxed. Working physically every hour of the day. Whisky gives me a lot of energy. It’s an experiment. Wish this stuff wouldn’t be so pricey.
LOL I came here to hear all the bad news of my daily dram. Feels like a whiskey advertisement / someone lobbying for the alcohol industry. This was overwhelmingly positive and uplifting, unexpected.
animals! I gave someone a taste of some Woodford Double Oaked last weekend and they asked for a chaser...wtf, that one sip literally cost 3.75 and you want to wash it down with a dollar store sugar water? tf outta here
