What happens if a submarine encounters a gigantic object deep in the ocean during a mission? Submarines, often on extended missions lasting months with hundreds of crew members on board, maintain a constant state of vigilance. Faced with the unknown, do they proceed or abort the mission? How does the crew react to this unknown phenomenon, and what measures are taken to ensure everyone's safety on board?
Submariners can expect anything at any time-a sudden temperature change, a change in water pressure, a submerged wreck, or more bizarre phenomena like an underwater creature or a geologic formation. Nature is unpredictable, and its surprises are countless, especially in the depths of thousands of feet where even the most advanced technologies have not fully mapped the ocean. Among various anomalies, hydrothermal vents are of particular interest. Teeming with life, these vents represent not just a scientific curiosity but a testament to the ocean's unexplored mysteries. Although primarily a subject of scientific study, hydrothermal vents could pose navigation risks if approached too closely.
Submarines, these marvels of engineering, are equipped with sophisticated detection systems that can identify and classify anomalies within seconds. In the US Navy, vigilance is paramount, as negligence could endanger not only the lives on board but also national security.
So, how does a force as skilled as the US Navy handle such situations, and what measures do they implement to ensure the safety of all involved? Let's explore some real-life encounters from the past to find out!

If the military can operate at 4km below the surface thats one hell of a feat! I only say that as that's how deep sea vents are.

Ask the crew of the Seawolf class submarine USS Connecticut who hit a seamount on 10/2/21 which cost the CO, XO and COB their jobs. Repair estimates are 31+ months and untold millions of dollars.

Thresher and Scorpion come to mind And is just the USN off the top of my head. Both nuclear powered. Accidents in 1963 (Thresher) and Scorpion (1968). Yes, a long time ago, but all on board perished. And then then there is the Kursk. Yeah, everyone died too.

When an implosion occurs the sudden pressure change is so great that the atmosphere suffers a Flash Over that actually ignites instantly in a fraction of a second.... And the only thing that stops the Flash Over would be a closed watertight bulkhead, but if the control areas of the boat are exposed⁉️⁉️ That's it....

AN ANORMALLY CAN BE CAUSED BY NATURAL DISASTERS SUCH AS HURRICANES OR VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS AND THESE COULD POTENTIALLY DISRUPT OR CAUSE COLLITIONS FOR THE SUBMARINES.
