Nice review and will help focus me more on SPM. One variable not mentioned here and is critical to understanding your speed is the concept of hull speed. Increasing paddle rate and or paddle force gives a diminishing speed return at some point. The relationship of energy (power) expended is non linear to achieve higher and higher speed as hull drag becomes more inefficient. That's really what's happening when you start getting up in the higher SPM and is a corollary to heart rate.

Question I have 10 ur old hard BOTE AXIOM, w a shit paddle. (Working on new paddle) While working on my paddle stroke and trying to increase my stroke rate and speed. However everytime I change to the right side, the board goes left, every single time. Any help?

I think you should pull longer or use a different blade to bring your heart rate to an equal point. It's a bit like jogging. I can run a certain heart rate at a low or high cadence this will result in a different pace. Or we run at a certain pace with different cadence and monitor the heartrate. Using different heart rates is like doing a completely different training. Sorry, but this data has no coherence for me.

Longer limbs vs shorter limbs paddler same with short vs taller height of paddler. Who go faster in water flat or ocean water?

All with same paddle area? Would be interesting to repeat, but decreasing blade size as stroke rate increases.

Watching Shrimpy’s stroke rate for miles and miles blows my mind. I’m sure it helps to be 17 years old, but still fun to watch

The sensor of the SPM would say ”syntax error” if it was at Shrimpy’s paddle 😎🏎️😀

Super interesting with real ilfe stats, thanks so much. I would be great to do the same test on an iSUP rather than a full race board. A lot of us don't have race boards so can't relate to the speeds, even if the linnear progression is probably still valid. Seeing you do it on an iSUP would allow us to see the difference that someone with excellent technique compared to ourselves. Keep up the films!

Do you think it is possible to build Muscle Mass with sup? What training should be done? I don't care about speed or anything else. I already go to the gym but I would also like to do it in the sea(I already have the sup 14)

SUP is more of a cardio exercise rather than a strength gaining workout for muscle mass. You will gain endurance strength but not mass strength as that requires a different form of exercise. So, unfortunately muscle mass exercises are better for the gym and not the water.

Смотрю из Росси. Город Киров. Центральная часть России, ближе к Уралу. Я владею своим САП клубом. И хочу сам научиться правильно грести на САПе. Спасибо за такой полезный контент! Ваш подход к качеству очень радует!

How did the diffrent SPM affect your HR? You should try Magnus 120 paddle at 60 SPM… 😀

The HR stats are in the video and in the description box below the video. 😉I should though haha!

What do you use to track SPM? Are there published training programs? Would the results be the same on a general purpose board?
@ethanhuffsup

I used the NK Speed Coach SUP to track and record my SPM. The results will also vary depending on the board you're on and your personal fitness.

You’re not getting your weight on the paddle at the catch . You’re sitting into a squat. Watch Larry Cain’s technique videos

Yes, you’re absolutely correct and it’s something I did not demonstrate very well in my B-roll shots as I was focused on showing the SPM in the side shots. I apologize for that. Thanks for pointing that out though and helping me demonstrate things even better. 🤙🏼

I’m interested in seeing data on managing current, waves (different directional chip) and wind. I’ve all found there is a sweat spot for all of these.

Absolutely, there’s definitely a sweet spot for each of these different types of conditions.

I really appreciate the info, and I promise I don’t mean this in a snarky way, but “eckspecially” is not a word. The word is especially-the e flows straight into the s.
