This is a recorded message on the disc. since the Dreamcast works as a CD player, you can actually hear the message on a Dreamcast too, if you try to run the disc from the CD player software. The reason for it is because if you try to read the game data as audio data you get a horrible loud and piercing buzzing sound that can damage speakers or your ears, so there's a message on the disc to warn you of that, which you'll hopefully find BEFORE you find that game data doesn't translate into digital audio very well..
PastTheKeeper! Official Yes (unintentionally), it's not necessarily loud if you have the volume low on your CD player, but it's still a really sharp horrible buzzing sound that is painful to hear and will probably damage your speakers sooner or later.
@@gl1tchygreml1n I’m pretty sure that buzzing sound only happens on Dreamcast discs when you put on in the CD player and run track 1. So don’t try to do it with a Wii game disc.

@@irhandlehandle That will be for DVD games, when played in a DVD player(including the ps2). The Dreamcast didn't use DVDs, it uses a custom format which can be partially read in a CD player(which also includes the ps2, or any cd/dvd player etc).
So, playing a dream cast CD in a HI-FI equipment can damage your speakers. GENIUS! Even if it attempted to interpret the information as RAW audio, there's no way it could damage your speakers. You would just hear a bunch of noises.

When I saw "Track 2" I instantly turned my speakers to a lower volume, because it already scared the shit out of me, when I put a file disk into an old CD-Player as a child. :D
Actually there is a track 1, it's the one that they talk about when damaging your speakers, because it's game data. Only the PS1 can read track 1 however so don't worry.
I've gotta give you credit for your love of the Dreamcast, especially for your age. My nephew just turned 16, and I turned him onto the old console, the little-white-box-of-awesomeness. And he thinks it's the best system ever made, even compared to his next-gen consoles. I made him a nice Dreamcast mini-arcade machine for his birthday, to celebrate his love for the greatest system ever made. I'll link you the video of the DC arcade when I get it uploaded. I think you might appreciate it.
Dreamcast games do this in all cd players except some cheap ones with weak lasers, I think Saturn games have a similar message too except the ones that are written in red-book format (like Sonic R & Sega Rally) which you can play some of the in game music through a standard cd player, great for ripping soundtracks without audio converters.
***** and tho the PS2 still looks OK on an LCD, it looks better on a CRT. it's not quite there for looking really good on LCDs like the PS3, but almost. I have my PS1 and SNES on my CRT cos they looked a lot worse on my LCD, this is because LCDs display square pixels and the consoles are outputting rectangular pixels.
This works with a lot of different media formats but I think it's a nice thing to have in your game. Just in case someone is so stupid they think their dreamcast has turned into a DVD player :D

That little Dreamcast cab got so popular amongst everyone that I decided to make a SEGA Saturn mini arcade cab too. For a good buddy of mine's birthday. Now, I'm in the planning stages of a similar Genesis cab. BrainElixir, since you're interested, I'll be sure to link you when I upload those vids. At the end of the videos, I added some pics of my full-size Dreamcast cabs which I made over a decade ago. They're actually pretty awesome. I'll upload follow-up vids of the full-size cabs later.
Sega is awesome, how I miss their consoles, So innovative and clever ^^ the greatest of the consoles are the master system, megadrive, game gear, and of course the dream cast, I'm sure if they believed hard enough in the dreamcast and focused to gain great franchises for it they could easily fin the the war of Xbox and playstation, because their experience would be golden in the making of a new console to conquer with the current gen consoles (ps3 360 wii) I'm sure their approach would be to release between the 360 n ps3 to still pull off a more powerful console than the 360 and of course have more sophisticated controllers, with vmu:s that could mabye be used to memorise button customisation to choose for your specific game to give the best controls ever by Beeing able to set them yourself even if the game itself wouldn't allow custom control mapping. :)
You do not know the full reasons as to why Sega killed off the Dreamcast. Sega made a chain of bad financial decisions with their consoles, not limited to those add-ons. They apparently had a history of releasing their systems too early which happened with the Dreamcast. This is most likely the reason as to why there were no anti-piracy measures on this system. If Sega had taken more time to develop the Dreamcast they could have given it real anti-piracy measures. The lack of these measures is one of the causes of the downfall of the Dreamcast. A Sega executive (CEO of Sega of Japan, I think) blamed piracy on the consoles. The other causes is their mismanagement of their money. Had it not been for these two then the Dreamcast would have at least survived against the PS2. Also, I think button-mapping predates 7th-gen. I'm pretty sure there were PS1 games that allowed you to set your own button maps.
Yes button mapping isnt new but Im Talking an outside program within the console system not the game which helps you set controls even if the game does not allow it, For example in halo i am acustomed to "the duke" setup they had in halo 1 & 2 but in halo 3 thats not avaiable so i have to stick with the recon setup.
No i think the megadrive beats the NES, but for the record ive never been much of a "Nintendo Guy" Im more of PC and stuff like that, Sonic is my preferred choice over Mario, I'm not saying Mario sucks our anything but sonics speedy platforming of the classic era just appeals more to me rather than the simple iconic classic platforming formula of the Mario games. So shots fired at the game gear huh? Well at least it has coloured screen as opposed to game boy But kudos for Nintendo creating fun games which are great for party gaming :)

It's also simple. They added some files to make sure that it's recognized by a CD player and plays a warning track, and also made sure that the Dreamcast was able to play it by using non-interfering files.
READ THIS: before trying please note that the message is inportant. Not only track 1 has game data but it causes a giant disorted sound that will hurt your ears. It's the game's soundtrack mixed.

Because it would play the data track, which is not designed for audio playback, so there's nothing stopping it from accidentally playing "MAX VOLUME" on and off rapidly until the speakers are damaged. Granted, for this to occur, you'd need to have your speakers cranked pretty high to begin with.
My PS1 did something similar, but it went to the DATA track (1) instead of going to the warning track (2). I manually switched it over to the warning track, and the following had played: "This is a Dreamcast game disc. The first track contains game data. Please do not play it on a normal CD player." It was like 12 seconds long.
I like how every language (bar sign) is explored to pass on this "vital" information! Like they really thought YOU thought the bloody thing would play!
They did that for saturn games too and sometimes they would have voice actors from the game say something funny as a warning. I know they did that in sonic games, skies of arcadia and panzer dragoon saga(this one was quite special cause each one of the 4 discs would have a message done by a different character)
Do you mean, transform binary data into RAW audio? Yeah! You can do it in Audacity too. It will attempt to cast binary data into PCM signals. It will give you a bunch of machine-like noises. But none of them can damage your speakers unless you give them a lot of power. And I mean, a lot.
It's more like, what happens when you put it in any cd player. You can get that too on the Dreamcast if you choose the music option with a dreamcast disc in.
I remember doing that with my PlayStation and Burning Rangers for the Saturn. "THIS IS A GAME CD FOR SEGA SATURN SYSTEM, TRACK ONE CONTAINS GAME DATA, SO PLEASE DON'T PLAY THE TRACK WITH A REGULAR CD PLAYER, IT MIGHT DAMAGE YOUR AUDIO SYSTEM."
not sure if anyone has said this...but this happens with a lot of dream cast and ps1 games when you put them in anything that acts as a CD player...try castlevania for ps1 it warns you but then says you wont listen and plays music for you

the data track containing the game would probably sound very harsh. CDs store music or data the same way using bits which are then translated into audio or data. early CD players might not be able to determine a data track is not a audio track and therefore passing a data signal through an amplifier could damage the speakers by causing them to oscillate at frequencies not intended for speakers, in theory this would pop the speaker. most audio equipment today, recognise a track that is not audio.
The entire game is set in J.W's palatial mansion, where you're invited to have a cheeseburger and a shake at "Jimmy's Dinner" before you can experience his no. 2 for real as you stop off for a whirlwind shit in Jim's well appointed W.C.
