@@RobDahm It's really appreciated in the community by the people who actually care about the craft. The willingness to share not only the highlights, but the full process (and especially the evolution of the systems and choices and hardware you've used and are using!), the reasoning, and the sourcing for everything you're doing is fantastic and almost never seen. A lot of youtubers/racers/builders will share some things, but never enough of what matters about the process and why certain choices are important, either to appease the algorithms with shorter videos or because they are trying to protect some egotistical bullshit as their "own secret sauce" for some imagines competitive advantage. But you consistently show how the sausage is made (and how much Isaiah LOVES playing with your sausage), and we can't thank you enough!

I'd be extremely careful with that Wilwood pedal box. if the balance bar is 3/8-24 thread like some of their other ones, it can and will bend or break with ABS since you can basically apply an infinite amount of pressure to the pedal without lockup, unlike non-abs. And trust me, when you brake too late in a corner or someone spins in front of you on the track, you do apply as much force as you can if the car isn't slowing fast enough. I've had two fail, and i know of other failures as well. I have videos of the bolt flexing under normal pressure if you care to see it. Tilton and other manufacturers use at least a 7/16" bolt for this reason.

id add the bendix masters ( might even work for automatic/computerised controllable brakes/clutch-pedal feature feed-back/or-automatically-slipping/shifting ect ) N9 robs next to ABS-🛑-brakes california company that restores them, love mine all the feel plus dialling it the force feed-back ( using the stock mathematics at 6:1 petals so there's more travel ect, willwood 17"in/carbon-kits on all-4 corners ) aka more PSI/help = wife/mom mode as there smaller/less-brawny then me/6ft~ 220lb and yes my car is heavyweight at 4k+lb's/dodge charger aka similar to there 1970~ challenger but my car rocks a BBM/hemi and instead of being a 6speed it's a TR6070 TT/boosted car 😉 make sure that the fluid stays clean and add filler's!! ( parker industrial makes a really nice 4-JCB 200-4k-psi/normally-ABS-pressures units that works in line mine are on the returns/bleeds side of the system as i copycated a 1960-80's TA-race-car ish ) my master doesn't like water/dirty aka vary picky as well as the system rob added as iv been eyeing on installation for ride/daily/charger's , O by the way others have used gm or ford junkyard ABS systems sorry not as up on programming/hacking ( 2013 Shelby gt350? also for electric power steering rack ect, my information is aimed for my charger's but hope that helps someone else out, my goals are not to wrecking my daily mostly and airbags/actively-SRS are harder to installation than really good brakes-systems ect ) but it's cheaper than directly paying bosh/continental as the lawyer fees aren't paying/including in the pricing ect as for the abs-pump ( wonder if the part number crossover to a gm numbers as the one in robs hand looks similar to the normal big3 just he's got the reprogram function that most are locked 🔒out on modifying ) look at late 90's gm car's/truck there's a reason for orientation as the circuit board can get fluid/electric/programming failure-mode/mechanical valve failure-ect on it and wig it the TFO aka customer/silent-business-partnership-there-caddy came into the shop i was working at after a crashed at 40mph~ ( smaller city drive ) and curbing-a-rim-ect so yes torque vectoring works but it also can work against you/car

BTW thanks i thought 💭about adding one more and a balance bar ( but let the computerised ajust it with a manual override under my dashboard as i don't want to clutter it up or change the classic style-ect as it's not likely to get much attention dailying ect 😉 ) but figured that i would let ABS/me sorting out hydraulically but maybe i should reconsider that ( started out with wedge/906's heads and had more room but now with D8's/hemi's and a cross-ram intake's and turbocharged headers it's cramped on the driver's side firewall, 1 turbocharger is actually at my feet/floorboard to give a vision of were it's sitting down pipe is hugging the block and bell housing+firewall ) and make sure the bar can handle 0-60lb-full-boosting ( = 1200psi as my kit wouldn't let me go any higher hydraulic lines PSI's wise ( other wise 🤔2-3k maximum from my memory in 2018~ ) or the clippers 6-P seals will run the risks of failure ) help or 0-300lb unboosted/assted brake 🛑or panic attack stomping or drag/HPDE/autoX event's ect racing is at most 4 ( realistically more likely once a year, as time vs $$ getting in the way vs car+me being ready to full-hammer 🔨down 😉 🤠 ) times a year ( 30 minutes/full session on circuit at most given or taken as that's about what a hellcat or corvette should/can do dealer deliveryed to owner/end experience for not being a full racing la mons 🇫🇷 /24h racing car ) for my build/60's-charger's consideration, the rest of the time its used like a regular hellcat/higher end car would be with a 30-65 year-old people/personal-use/owners wondering if using the 64-2/LSX or grayscale triggers would be helpful for increased activity/information as rob says that currently= 2in every chance/changing vs about 1"inch, on my back tires that more as there 30-33in tall by 12 wide fronts are about the same size/26T as rob's 4-rotor but probably narrower ( @10'in~ ) as i sofar don't have a wide-body ( might add 1967-68 nasscar/prototype fender's/body-kit but that's above my personal skills and $$ for now so maybe later on 😉 ) and not cutting ✂as id like to have good body taste's 😉

Tryhards: remove ABS from their track cars because they think they're Kimi Räikkönen Rob: Installs ABS because he's humble and realizes the threshold braking meme is just that, a meme, because if you think you can out brake ABS you can't because a pro would never say he could but "it depends on the conditions"
@spdcrzy

Motorsport ABS is something else. It's a totally different level. Standard OEM ABS on cars (until about five to ten years ago) wasn't really all that great. The trickle-down effect of GT racing using more and more powerful (and accurate) ABS and TC systems directly led to the development of things like PTM in Corvettes and Cadillacs being so easy to manage.
@MattyEngland

Yeah, exactly right. Plus the computer can have each of the 4 wheels on the threshold independently, and it monitors and adjusts them hundreds of times per second.

Yay electronics talk time from an electronics engineer! @25:20 when you are talking about how the wheel speed sensor works. Its changing the current in the loop based on the magnetic field. Using Ohms law V=IR, if the current across the resistor in series in the loop is changing, the the voltage across the resistor (what you are measuring) also has to change. So you're still reading an analogue signal signal. It just works in a different way.

I worked in the factory that made his Valve Block for 10 years. That’s a Mk 100. The tolerance’s on those blocks are less than the width of a human hair. They used to check the tolerances using lasers, but you can only scan the outside of the blocks. Back in 2021ish, they bought a Cat-Scan machine to scan the whole block sample and have the computer measure them. A ton of tech goes into making sure those blocks work right all the time and every time!

Hi Rob! I'm an electrician from Australia and id like to give you a small tip or a time saver for your wire pair twisting. When needing to do that on electrical switch gear we use a battery drill. Put the two wires in the chuck of the drill and tighten down. Make sure the other end of the pair are firmly in your connector in the vice, stand back so the wires are not slack and then very gently use the drill and that will twist them for you very neatly. Love all your videos and hope this little tip helps you out in future! Cheers!

The Sensor setup you're talking about around 25 minutes is just a basic voltage divider circuit. Sensors in general are just materials that have varied resistances of a predictable amount to a certain input(temp, light, in this case magnetism). Don't know much about vehicle sensors but all sensors work this way in one way or another, whether the second resistance is baked into the sensor itself or into the device reading it.

thats so sick. i would love a deep dive video explaining what the abs unit needs and how to integrate it with other systems. i have wanted to do an abs retrofit but assumed i always needed the whole computer setup from donor vehicle. i also wonder if that software works with abs units from cars.

All of this sounds like my Lexus 2nd gen GS300. I mean literally! The ABS is so integrated into the performance of the engine it's astounding.

The hole saw deal.....lol.....I'll drill a hole through a piece of wood, and clamp it to the area I need to use the hole saw on, and it acts as a guide when you don't have a pilot hole.

I have this same system waiting to go in my time attack car, looking forward to see some follow-up tuning of the system on track! Also, to see if the DSC does anything?

Abs warning goes to you dash light. And the abs failure goes to ecu. I’m so glad I watch you do this. They really really hide all the information about how it works. I went and pulled old expired patients to have more information.

Just have a look to the manual chapter 5.2.5. It clearly states the difference between those two lamps. The "failure" lamp indicates every small failure, so you will be able to connect to the RSX ABS using the diagnostic tool and will find out exactly, what the issue is. If the warning lamp comes on too, ABS is disabled.

It's amazing how that same generator case is also used for a brand called Pulsar. I have one, same power rating, same exact remote, etc. Panels are identical, it's just a different color.

Looking good Rob, abit late on the video but been busy. I like the whole ABS thing but it's so freaking expensive :( About the brakes and stopping of the car. The ABS will help alot, but at higher speeds they will slip at a point in time without the proper grip. I see that you have been using "street" tires for the track. Get some street slicks that is allowed on the street and works very well on the track, i have run Yokohamas and Toyo R888's over the years and it helps alot. What also needs to be added is bigger brakes at the rear to compensate for the fronts. And adding a brake adjuster to the rear, if you can do that with the new unit it would be great. As you want the rears to "lock" at just abit more pressure then the front. When i was racing the 4 rotor, i did just have a brake box and no abs or anything. And with the adjustments we found the point of where it would lock the brakes in the rear at about 10-15% more pressure on the pedal. So it's important to get that balance right. As you would be amazed how much extra braking force you get with a proper adjusted rear balance. Also for the weight and size of the car, do 11-12 inch in the rear with 315 or bigger, and atleast 10" with 295's in the front. That will not slip on a track even without ABS :) About the dry sump tank, figure out where you are missing weight and try and put it there. Some do put it in the rear of the car. In the wheel well on the passenger side does work as well. And about the oil cooling, what i did was use a Y to split the oil comming off the Drysump pump and run seperate lines in to each cooler, then spread the oil in the front and rear after the filter. That kept the oil cool and chill. Never saw about 88 degreece celcius on the track. Comming off the track was another story, so make sure to put a fan on the coolers to cool down the oil once you are not going too fast. As the temps will rise fast to 110 decreeece celcius after just a minute or so. And with a slow cooldown lap it will be over 100 with no fans once your are in the pits. Oh and like others are stating, try and get a brake pedal box that is not willwood, some of them can't handle all the pressure and i have seen one brake during braking on the track aka no brakes :(

i bet you could also use that abs unit to keep the front brakes pressure retained after letting off the pedal, giving you line lock

as a machine builder. Zip ties are indeed your friend. I regularly go though a 1000 standard + however many small and long ones a month. Then there are those months where I go though way more then that. Also the twisted pair is indeed for signal intererty. (same with internet cabling) It works by making sure both have the same interferance so it automaticly compensates for it
