Mechanical engineering student, been working on cars my entire life, currently living with my aunt and uncle who are retired automotive engineers while I'm at school. That is one of the best simplified explanations of bearings and oil I've ever heard. Not something many people talk about, and something a lot of people get wrong. High mileage engines, if maintained correctly, should use the same oil they used when new because the bearings will be the same size and shape they were when new. The temperatures, pressures, and clearances are the same.
@rfpeace

maybe? Introduce condensation, combustion by products, fuel, excess heat, and super high boost pressures and shit starts changing size, shape, and composition! cheers:)

Oh, how utterly delightful to see another self-proclaimed "Mechanical engineering student" making an entrance into our discourse. Isn't it just the pinnacle of humility when one feels the need to preface their impending observations with their academic credentials? And, to no one's surprise, the ensuing commentary is dressed in the most rudimentary and idealized perspective, reminiscent of those halcyon days of academic theory. One could only yearn for the simplistic, untainted world these students seem to inhabit, devoid of the complexities that reality so generously provides.

it missing isn't really causing anything as long as the wing isn't there. the bigger issue is the carbon splitter/plate pulling away from the bottom of the car. they're likely going to have come up with a better way to strengthen it and smooth out the transition from the bumper to the splitter so it's not trying to rip it off the car. now if they were doing track stuff, 100% the window needs to be there because it's effecting the air hitting the wing.

@@1216jimmyz you're so, SO wrong. It VERY much matters. You've got a giant opening where the air is expecting a surface, so that creates incredible amounts of turbulence that will make the rear end hop all over the place. The wing won't be as effective, either. Rob isn't concerned about it not because it doesn't matter, but because the car simply isn't built up to a point yet where it matters more than having a bulletproof engine.

I was thinking about that recently. Didn't he say the 12-Rotor ain't much bigger than a V8, or atleast got the same mounting pattern as some chevrolet V8? The C8 should have enough room for that, surely.
@octane613
@octane613 6 месяцев назад
@@JackTheRipper2613same footprint and mounting as a big block chevy, too big for the ls-sized spot in the c8

Isn't the C8 getting the 6 rotor?

@@Hugh.Gilbertnah, the 6 rotor is too long, he said he could put it in a diablo but he would need a new roller one not his current one

@@Hugh.Gilbert I'm not sure, is even anything been really planned for the C8 as of now?

You need to shorten that shifter, you are reaching way up and over. Takes so much time to do just that, not to mention it just looks uncomfortable.

The ability to shear that key, is insane! Just think the stress on key that also had to make it past the taper fit. This is awesome stuff!

When they have enough content to post the next video. They are currently designing parts for it, not super exciting on video for most people to just watch CAD design being done. It needs an intake, exhaust system and probably everything else externally. The engine was originally designed for a boat and ran with a carburetor. Putting it in a car and running EFI requires a load of new parts that all have to be custom made from the ground up.

That was absolutely the best Valvoline ad I've ever watched. Probably the best plug I've ever watched! I don't know what or if there was compensation for it, but whatever it was wasn't enough! I could watch an entire video of you explaining how oil works! I want a whole video of how oil works in your engine! Kudos! I would wish you luck on the rebuild but you clearly have science, knowledge, and experience on your side so I feel you don't need much luck! Guess a bit of luck won't hurt. Best of luck anyway! You nailed this one!❤

I've been smiling through the disassembly, just admiring all the parts coming off and recognising the progress that they embody. And I was excited to see more. AND I love the fact that the 4 rotor is being flogged hard and isn't some kind of show pony trailer queen. Lets GO! ROTARY POWER!

Someone smart once said “left to their own devices, a turbo will either blow itself up, or blow your engine up.” I’m so glad this engine survived except for the “parts that are absolutely destroyed” even with 60PSI of boost. I can’t wait to see the future of this build, which is CRAZY to say considering everything you’ve ALREADY done. 🤯🤯🤯

There's no pressure or pressure wave created by two surfaces sliding across each other. It only creates shear stress in the oil.
