Beatrice Zatorska, Founder and CEO of the PD Buddy App, recently spoke with Michel Planquart, co-founder of the Parkinson's support group No Silver Bullet 4PD, about his insights from conversations with dozens of Parkinson's researchers over the past few years. The interview, originally conducted for the Young Onset Parkinson's Network newspaper, highlights Michel's journey in becoming a generalist who takes a holistic approach to managing his symptoms. He shares his excitement about current research and identifies which studies he believes will have the most significant impact in the future.
Michel also announced his continued collaboration with the PD Buddy App, where he will lead monthly video meetups. These meetups are designed for both newly diagnosed individuals and those who have been living with Parkinson's for some time, providing a platform to exchange knowledge and offer support. Thank you Michel! I treat PD in the ways you talk about. I particularly like exercise and Keto diet per Dr. Matt Phillips. In the 3 years since diagnosis, there has been little or no disease progression.

Hi Norman, thank you for your support. I am very sorry for the struggles that your wife is facing at the moment. As far as the gut is concerned, I would recommend you joining the webinar that we are organising in September with Professor Filip Scheperjans, one of the world's leading specialists on the topic. We will be sending the invitations over the next few weeks. I know little about peripheral neuropathy but this article might be of interest. www.apdaparkinson.org/article/peripheral-neuropathy-parkinsons-disease/

Michel. You mentioned Meditation. I have PD and shake considerably. I find that I cannot sit and meditate while shaking. Does anyone have any tips about meditating while shaking? Thank you so much for all you do on behalf of those of us with PD.

That’s a tricky one for me to comment on as I am mainly rigidity dominant. I have some internal tremors that I sometimes manage to suppress via breathing and visualisation exercises. Also, I remember seeing a video of Tom Isaacs, one of the creators of Cure Parkinson’s, who was affected by severe dyskinesia and managed to sit down and calm himself until there were no more jerky movements. I don’t know how he used to do this, but maybe some other people on this forum would be able to comment.

Anne-marie - I like Tich Nat Han's book "How to Sit." From this and other sources, I redefined meditation. For me it's not sitting perfectly still with a blank mind, which is impossible. It's sitting and watching the breath. (period!) When I do that for at least 2 minutes I've meditated.

Michael …can you tell us where you put the TENS patches, how many times per day and for how long? Do you have a particular brand you use? I understand there are different currents. How much current does yours deliver? Being in the US this may all differ. Did you need a doctors RX for the TENS?
@nosilverbullet4pd998
@nosilverbullet4pd998 2 месяца назад
Hi Milt. I put the patches on top of my hands, close to the fingers but not on the fingers. You can of course experiment with other locations like inside the hands. I am doing 20 to 30 minutes sessions three times a day. I bought my device (Avon) on Amazon. They are not expensive and there is plenty of choice. You don’t need a doctor prescription but please feel free to discuss it with him/her. Pregnant women, people who suffer from epilepsy or have a pacemaker of DBS should avoid this.

Hi Milt, I use a TENS for vagal nerve stimulation. A special clip attaches to the ear (an outlet of the vagus nerve) and the other electrode is a regular patch on the upper back shoulder. Dr. Google has info on this for treating PD and other neuro disorders. ~ Brad

Thank you Michel for advice on TENS. I’ve watched most of your speakers and find them very interesting. My partner is doing high dose B1 therapy. Although we haven’t found his sweet spot we’re still trying.

Michel purchased TENS for my partner. He has not used it on his hands but I’ve used it on his back many times and he loves it. Last night I put it on my back as well and must say it’s very relaxing. I seem to notice that stress and overextending himself seems to aggravate his symptoms. So we’ll keep using the TENS and extend it to his hands…

@@nosilverbullet4pd998 Michel, my partner has been using TENS for about a month now. He uses it on his hands for 30 minutes in the morning and his back for 30 minutes in the morning and at night. We haven't noticed a difference in his symptoms but it certainly relaxes him. He really enjoys the quiet time that it allows. He is also on high dose B1 therapy and has been for about 8 months. We have noticed a difference in his handwriting, gait and arm swing. We do believe he's found his "sweet spot" and his dosage is going to remain the same. We went very slowly increasing the B1. Thank you for time and I'll keep watching you.

There is research that seems to support. My experience has been that it helps with my back problems but not really with anything else (its hard to tell). However, I find it very relaxing and I have acupuncture sessions every 2 weeks.
