Hearing you mention fuel prices- ⛽️ Living in Tasmania, Australia, Diesel is now around $2.20 per litre, near £1.40. Always dearer than petrol that I have noticed. (Female) I learned to drive in an unregistered truck, on a farm paddock in 1958.. Have always taken an interest in vehicles, Father had a transport business, not huge, several employees though. We had a fuel pump in our property, Shell Co during the 1940's 50's and 60's... Then eventually worked in Logistics for an Interstate Freight company.. Enjoyed your delivery video..
Another negative from the days of Beeching. All your deliveries would have been easy in the days of the mechanical horse and the Scarab. Load from the railway a container or boxes/pallets from a rail van in Oban rail depot. Modern addition would be a tail lift or piggy fork lift on the trailer. A tractor unit which can turn in its own length. Disadvantage a bit slow in its original form (30mph approx.) so local deliveries only. But while you deliver another trailer can be loaded. A modern alternative as used in Europe and the US is to put the loaded trailers on the train but this assumes the bridges and tunnels are wide and high enough, though one Swiss narrow gauge railway had containers and flat cars to suit its tunnels and bridges only recently updated to take standard containers in well car wagons.
