This was a quick, unplanned What I Eat In A Day video, which should hopefully give you an idea of the things you can "throw together" while eating lowFODMAP & plant-based.
You can download the Meal Maker Guide I used here: eepurl.com/c9rPE9
You can find the smoothie recipe here: www.thewildgutproject.com/sin...
And the chilli recipe here: www.thewildgutproject.com/sin...
IBS affects around 11% of the global population, (that’s one in every 9 people you meet!!) so let’s not be embarrassed about it! I want this channel to be a safe, open and kind place for people dealing with IBS. We’re far from alone, so let’s ask questions, share advice and feel better together xx
▽ What are FODMAPs?
The term FODMAP is an acronym, derived from "Fermentable, Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides And Polyols”. They are short carbohydrates found in lots of healthy foods, which the bacteria in your intestines will break down, producing gas in the process.
For unclear reasons, some people are particularly sensitive to this and experience painful and embarrassing symptoms such as bloating, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, constipation and fatigue. FODMAP restriction has been found to improve symptoms in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID).
▽ What is a Low-FODMAP Diet?
The Low-FODMAP diet usually involves carefully cutting the down the amount of FODMAPs you consume over a day and at one time for 2-6 weeks until your symptoms resolve or at least become manageable. Then you “re-challenge” each type of FODMAP individually to see how sensitive you are to them. Thankfully most people can tolerate some or all of the FODMAPS at certain levels or combinations.
▽ Is it forever?
NO! From this feedback, you can reintroduce foods in a way that won’t set off your symptoms. Your tolerance will likely improve over time, so you can always retest foods when you feel up to it.
▽ Resources For Vegan Low-FODMAPers
These are the two things I’ve found to be invaluable since starting the low-FODMAP diet.
The first is the official app* from The Monash University. It’s the easiest and most up-to-date way to check what foods are A-okay and how big your portion size can be. Measurements come in grams, as well as "cups", which is great as a brit!
itunes.apple.com/us/app/monas...
The second is the ONLY vegan cookbook* I’ve found among the masses of meat-filled low-FODMAP ones. Admittedly it's not totally my style of cooking but it has been a great inspiration and it is very informative.

Have you any idea how much you are helping other people (me being one of them)? I don't understand how you have so few subscribers considering the quality and quantity of your content. I am sure you're going to get more! I've been looking for low fodmap vegan recipes FOREVER and here they are. Thank you so much. I am finally able to convert to a vegan diet without fearing that I'll be doubled over in pain.

Awww Zari this is such a lovely comment to wake up to on Christmas day! Thank you! I'm really grateful I can help you ☺️ Although, if you were searching for a while, my 2018 goal clearly needs to be to learn how to make my channel/website easier to find haha 😅 Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like me to make a video about xx

this is so useful!! i’ve been vegan since i was really little and i’ve been diagnosed with SIBO so i have to eat low fodmap... never realised how hard it is to think about restricting what i eat and as i’m in school i was worried i wouldn’t get enough energy. but your videos are really informative and now i have some great recipe ideas and it doesn’t feel so restrictive anymore xxx

I'm so glad I could help! You can definitely still work with it, although obviously, it gets much better when you can starting adding back the foods you can tolerate! Hope you start to feel the benefit soon xx

You're a lifesaver! Leaving hospital with low/no FODMAP diet, I was concerned. Add veganism and I was nervous. But your info on portion size and what to add for variety as well as sample daily meals have brought calm to my otherwise crazy diet. THANK YOU!

Carrie, you have no idea how important your channel has become for me to keep up my morale. I've just finished my elimination phase and started my reintroduction phase - with a single button mushroom that did not trigger any symptoms - and which tasted divine. Today I'll continue with half a slice of bread. If you can't cook and don't - to some extent at least - enjoy dealing with food you're completely lost on a low FODMAP diet. Especially as a vegan. One more reason why your channel is so important! For me the hardest part is that it takes so long to find out what your triggers are and I've been unable to eat so many of my favourite foods for so long now (before low FODMAP I tried other elimination-type diets with my - vegan! - dietician). BUT of course I'll follow it through since it has made me feel so much better. Keep up the awesome work (and I'll keep recreating your recipes and tagging you on IG), Alice @Aliciouslog
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject

Oh Alice, you don't how much your comment has lifted MY morale! It's so kind of you to say ☺️ Congratulations on getting through the eliminations phase 👏🏼 And best of luck with the bread today, I hope you can one day enjoy sautéed mushrooms on toast without consequence (the dream haha)

So helpful to see a full day of low FODMAP eating. Have you attempted any more reintroduction challenges yet?
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject 6 лет назад
Glad it was helpful to see ☺️ Not yet 😣... It's so hard to find a few days where I don't mind potentially getting IBS symptoms. I teach a few private yoga sessions at the beginning of the week and usually, at the weekend there will be social things I want to do, so both are not great times to have an upset stomach! I probably should give up some things in the short term though, just to get the challenges done and out the way. Do you think you'll be attempting any challeneges soon? xx
@TheIrritableVegan
@TheIrritableVegan 6 лет назад
I totally understand, yoga + IBS flare ups = Not pretty. I'm only a novice yogi but I frequently avoid attending class during tummy flare ups. My Challenges are due to start at the beginning of December, fabulous timing for the festive season ;-)

I noticed you included Banana in your smoothie/milkshake - is there a certain amount you stick to or is it that they are unripe? I'm really unsure how to deal with the whole high fodmap ripe bananas and low fodmap unripe bananas thing. I also just found your channel and am binge watching everything!
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject 6 лет назад
Hi Jessica! The simple rule is 1/3 of a ripe banana or 1/2 an unripe banana. Not a huge difference haha I tend to freeze unripe bananas in halves (if I remember) so I can have the max amount. And thank you for binging 😁 I think I get progressively more awkward in front of the camera as it goes back 😳 xx

Thank you so much for this. I have been trying to gain weight while dealing with ibs. Ite been tough. How many cals do you eat in a day with low fodmap?
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject 3 года назад
It definitely is tough with all the limited portions! I think I was eating around 2200kcal to maintain my weight. I have made a few videos on it, but my main advice is to have 4 complete meals spaced out through the day. Here are the videos I made: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mtNce1YjRbM.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gZ24bmmnHYc.html

Carrie Gill I read that tofu was okay in 100g servings. Where did you read about only 30g being okay? I use Tofoo tofu and only use 75g maximum, but I love the stuff! Tempeh is a nightmare to find where I live unfortunately, I think my local independent wholefoods does the frozen kind but I always get daunted by it. I hope you're having a lovely weekend xx
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject
@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject 6 лет назад
Yeah, it's a recent thing 😔, but not all the labs have retested it. I'm like "please can you test seitan before you rule out tofu?!". But if it works for you obviously keep eating it. 💗 Tofu

Monash. They give the amounts look at their app or website. There's other apps that are free that give you the amounts but monash created the diet and does the testing and research so the money you pay for the app goes towards more research.

Hi, I'm guessing you're talking about the meal maker? I used the Monash Uni app data and it says you can have 90g (1 cup) of broccoli heads and it's low FODMAP. Broccoli is a tricky one because the low FODMAP amounts vary depending on the type and which part of the plant you use. xx

Aw no worries! I think I'm not great with it either 😣 I only have it occasionally and only a little bit at a time because it's so healthy and delicious. Gone are the days when I would quickly fry up half a head worth with some garlic and chilli 😭 (and then wonder why my stomach was upset haha) x
