Oatmeal and avocado toast is an excellent meal. I guess that such an intelligent person like Vika has zero knowledge in nutrition. I eat pelmeni maybe twice a year. It is delicious indeed but it is very unhealthy to eat it often. If she ate meat at lunch she shouldn't eat more meat at dinner, especially processed one. It has to be something light. Also, they use a lot of oil. As a nutritionist consultant I could say that their eating habits are just horrible. They have really bad nutrition diet in Russia, majority of population is not heathy there and life expectancy is pretty short there as well.

Very refreshing. I was never into those ''look at my perfect fake, hipster life'' youtubers. There's a place for everybody in the world, but when everybody is doing the same thing at some point it just comes across as showy and fake, 'cause it's just everybody competing for who has the most perfect life, and eats the healthiest avocado toast and the most organic oatmeal. It was all the ultimate brag fest. This channel is just completely refreshing, in showing the reality of what actually constitutes most people in the world, not just that of the ''playing modest, fake humble, while actually being well to do'' Western hipsters. The only thing worse than a bragger is a fake-humble bragger. This channel brings it back to grounded reality and sanity.

And then there's my dad who never cooked anything.

I cook all the meals for my family I cooked a huge Thanksgiving dinner and today I took the Turkey stock I made, the remaining turkey, onions, celery, carrots, and potatoes and a few spices and salt and pepper and made a big pot of turkey vegetable soup.

I live in Bulgaria now. And I love it. Like here is so much more "real" than my previous life in the UK. People care way more about playing with their children than working overtime and buying a new SUV. I have lived here 12 years and people here are much happier people than the average in the UK, yet they are much poorer financially.

I cannot stand hustle and bustle of city life. We have family there, but, we have no desire to move back ever.

So many moms in israel cook with their baby on their hip, we joke and say "all the things i learn to do with one hand" :) It's beautiful!

At my household kids weren't allowed to he kitchen since my aunt accidentally dropped a pot of boiling soup on my cousin.

@@Igorsov Actually I buy fresh organic fruits and vegetables and eat 5 FIVE a day total. I cook from scratch, do not eat beef, veal, lamb, exotic meats and do eat a little chicken and fish.

@@thelmabelda5447 here’s a recipe for the cookies Pryaniki recipe 1 cup sugar 4-5 T honey 100 g (just under one stick) butter 1/4 cup water 3 cups flour (approx) 3/4 t. Baking soda 1-3 t. Mixed spices, ground. Can include cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ground ginger, black pepper, allspice, anise (This mixture was called сухие духи (dry perfume) in the old days, a nod to the preciousness of spices obtained in trade with India and the East, and it varied from region to region and from time to time based on availability.) Use your favorites or what is available to you, less for a gently spiced cookie, more for a stronger spice flavor. Optional sugar glazing 1/2 cup confectioners sugar (powdered) 2 T lemon or orange juice Combine all ingredients except flour and soda in thick bottomed pot and heat to thoroughly dissolve the sugar and melt the butter. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and slowly stir in half of the flour. Allow to come to room temp - either place by a cold window or make a pan ice bath in a bowl that you can place your pot in. Once cooled, mix in two egg yolks (reserve whites). Preheat the oven to 360 F. To the remaining flour, stir in 3/4 tsp baking soda and mix well. Slowly add this flour mixture to the dough. Once the dough is too thick to stir with a spoon, turn out onto a floured surface and with floured hands, gently knead the dough until it is smooth and only slightly tacky, roughly the consistency of playdough. Divide the dough into two portions. Cover the reserved portion with damp towel or cling wrap to keep from drying out. Roll the other half out on floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use cookie cutter or juice glass to cut rounds or shapes from the dough. Place on baking sheet (parchment or baking pad can be helpful to keep from sticking, but not critical) and bake in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes. Optional filling Use fruit paste (quince is delicious), mashed dried fruits and nuts (prunes or apricot alone or with walnuts, raisins - it may help to steam or soak the dried fruit to make it soft enough to mash), thickened jam, jam mixed with ground nuts - the key is to form a fairly dry paste and not use a runny jam that will leak out of your honey cakes. The remaining portion can either be refrigerated for up to a week or rolled out now and baked. For filled cookies, roll slightly thinner dough and cut two shapes to form the cookie. Recommended - one slightly larger rectangle and one slightly smaller one. Place filling in the center of the larger rectangle and place the smaller rectangle on top. Fold the bottoms edges up and over the top layer and press with a fork to seal.

There are Russian and Ukrainian (same food basically) stores and restaurants in Los Angeles and New York, that you could try. Uzbek cuisine is great also, and something most russians eat, not just Muslims.

I hope you liked pelmeni. One of my favorite dishes, but the taste depends greatly on the quality of filling. One can eat them with various small additions. I like pelmeni with vinegar, tomato sauce and black pepper (all at the same time). You can also try buckwheat with milk, it's a popular dish too. You just pour milk into cooked buckwheat, kind of like you do with cereal. But it's usually eaten warm or hot, and salty rather than sweet. Take care!

@@marlenedurbala6238 Most things are made with the same ingredients you will find in most supermarkets , there are a few that are kind of unique to Russia and other slavic countries but not many , just differnt ways of cooking them and cooking some things in a way that seems a bit alien , like frying carrots for borsch

You can buy all kinds of groats, not only buckwheat, not only in a Russian shops, but also for over 100 years in every Polish shop, whether Ukrainian or Jewish one. Different types of groats are an important element of Slavic cuisine (like pasta in Italy). European Jews, who emigrated to the USA mainly from Poland, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, took the groats from the Slavs to their cuisine (and also, for example, pickled (salty) cucumbers, many types of forest mushrooms or gingerbread). So if you want, you can buy groats in America quite easily.

Buckwheat is traditionally used for porridge in Ukraine , not wheat oats like in England , i have tried it and will eat it but prefer wheat oats porridge , just what you are used to i guess

I had a Russian meal in London (I live in Scotland and our international cuisine options are kinda lacking except for pizza, Japanese and curry), it was some of the best food I’ve ever eaten - delicious! The staff were all really polite too.
