Well you asked and I delivered... with terrible lighting. Here's what I eat in a normal day while living in Japan, and vegan. Easy, lazy and realistic.
Once again, I'm really sorry about the lighting in this video. The lights in my room are terribly orange so colour grading this video was a paaaaain. Anywho, enjoy!

Thanks Hannah, lots of great ideas for this non-vegan-but-trying-to-reduce-meat person. One thing I really love about cooking vegan/vegetarian (apart from great taste, healthiness and planet love) is how clean my chopping board and knife seems after I use them. No meat skankiness.

High-stress level when you were cutting up that pumpkin! Glad it turned out ok. I'm not vegan, but I've recently cut down my meat intake by like 90%. Feels great. I see a vegan in my future...

Hannah, you should know how helpful your videos have been to this vegetarian on her first trip to Japan last week!! On my extensive research prior to my trip, I found some of your videos and have been following you since (smitten from the moment you raised your hands and titled your head at the demonstration of a practical way to use "dokodesu ka"). Your videos on what apps to use, the first video on the 10 useful phrases to know, the video of the best spot to see Mt. Fuji - these and so many more of your videos were SOOOO helpful. And now I'm just here continuing to live vicariously through your life in Japan. Thanks, also, for your video on how you edit your vlogs, I hope to get something cute and personal together from the random footage of my trip. I look forward to catching up on ALL of your Japan vlogs and also looking forward to your adventures beyond. Arigato!

Not related to this video at all but just like to say that your film-making skills have developed so much over the last couple years. You are now definitely a creator/director of “short films” and not just a normal travel vlogger. The artistic imagery, cinematography, editing and music choices you are now including is certainly of a professional quality and I know how much creative thinking and work is involved. The humorous little moments you often include capture your personality so well, and adds to the enjoyment for the #BeanFamily! I look forward to seeing plenty more short films of your travel adventures and be inspired to see more of the world! I started watching before going to Japan, and now the Philippines is on my bucket list thanks to you! You certainly have the lovable personality, creative talent and eye for detail to be a huge RU-vid success, which you are becoming, and you will deserve it 😀 Can’t wait to see your USA road trip videos!

I absolutely loved this video as there aren’t many vegan youtubers in Japan!! It’s super interesting to see all the vegan goodies in different countries. It would be cool to see a workout routine too if you’re interested in filming that! Ps: Maca helps regulate hormones and progesterone production (meaning it’s great to incorporate the week before a period until your period is over to help control pms and cramping!!)

Thanks Hannah, this is great. I'd love to see more vegan focused videos (if possible!) such as an updated konbini vegan food haul (including any vegan buns sold in those warming cabinet things) and definitely street food. I assumed taiyaki wasn't vegan because of the batter (some people use eggs) but a Japanese taiyaki stall person in AU told me the traditional recipe they use has no animal products and so the red bean taiyaki was vegan. I'd also love a video that goes in to a bit more detail about street food and how to know what's vegan, for e.g. I've been told that some of the sweet potato vendors have to be told not to put butter on (to make it vegan). Can you visit Loving Hut for their Saturday buffet? :D

Thought you might make a vegan spicy miso ramen or udon since it winter there. Didn't you take that sushi class. I was hoping to see you make some inari lol. But love that salad. Kabocha and mushroom grilled looks good. The dip/salad dressing looks tasty will try it out. Gochujang is great to give it a little spiciness. Wish you had put some noodles in it. That falafel looks realy good. Great video as always. Keep it up the great work👍

Hannah, I adored this video! A different perspective, to be sure, and a refreshingly crisp one (ode to the salady crunch! ;) )! I'm almost vegan.....for like 95% of the time. Aaaand then have the very occasional omelette the other 5% of the time. I'm studiously cutting down on processed starches and carbs though, and I'm heavily into fruit & veg juices. Don't do protein powder shakes (yet), and loving all kinds of hummus, baba ganoush, soups and stir-fries. I am totally addicted to brown (really brown!) rice, bulgur, buckwheat, pearled barley and quinoa, which I alternate, as well as different beans, nuts, firm tofu, tempeh (can you get that in Japan???), 'shrooms and sweet potato. As for noodles, I am very partial to the San Remo brand of Angel Hair spaghetti, udon, soba and whole wheat fusilli pasta.
@CurrentlyHannah
@CurrentlyHannah 5 лет назад
Ooo sounds like you’ve got a very varied diet! And yes you can get tempeh here but it’s a pretty small packet so it’s a little more expensive than at home I’m sure. Still delicious!

I have a 'funny' story for you - some days ago RU-vid recommend your video of Hoi An (Vietnam) to me and you were sitting in Cafe saying that there are many vegan options but you like it when the food contains meat :D I watched that and was super convinced that you would go vegan eventually because it kinda just fits the way I think of you and your personality (if you know what I mean) - and see there, you're vegan now :) I'm happy for you
@SansBalance
@SansBalance 5 лет назад
Put shirataki in boiling water for two minutes then rinse to remove smell. Same for konnyaku. (Toss the water after.) Works better than only rinsing under faucet, according to my mother. Save the water from boiling chickpeas; good base for veggie soup. (Upgrade to electric pressure cooker and you can prep dried chickpeas under an hour-no soaking.) If you get dried shiitake, the soaking liquid makes a very strong addition to soup stock. Try adding grated daikon or yama-imo for variety for your soup. Konbu and sliced renkon for texture and taste variations. Since you’re far from being overweight, treat yourself to soumen and soba once in a while. Too bad commercial sauces contain fish; you can probably mix your own from soy sauce, mirin, and shiitake based ‘dashi’ extract. (Plus konbu, if you want to be fancy.) Once you have sauce ready, 6 minutes to boil noodles, some chopped negi, nori stripes, and wasabi, and you’d be all set.

Oh, and I did IF as well. Lost 5kg in a month (72 down to 67) in May (last year) before I went vegan in September. I had to stop IF and have a porridge in the morning, because it's not that easy to get in the calories as a vegan (in my opinion).
