What I learned from 1000+ laps of Barber MSP!

With over 1000 laps in my 3 cars(Z06, Firebird, Mustang) I wanted to make a track walk video to help folks new to the track. I really wish something like this had existed back when I first lapped Barber.
Here is a full speed lap in the Z06 on Trofeo R's with a wheel cam!

First, nice video. Please don't take my comments as criticism, but "additional info" after 2000+ laps at Barber. 🙂 The track was repaved last year, so the seams and bumps are gone. In fact, some of the compression at T3 is gone. Entering the T2 carousel after T1, that brief uphill section is a big aid to reduce entry speed, especially in a heavier car. You should be able to move to full throttle at the apex of T1 (slightly before if the car allows) and maintain it to that uphill. There are few places at Barber where uphill sections can serve as traction multipliers and this is one of them. You are spot on about T2. I teach my students lift-throttle oversteer there and T16. The key to T2 is patience. The biggest mistake at T4 is making an early apex. Almost every driver I see does it. The Esses (aka Kink) is dangerous and really hard to get right. I have a shirt that has printed on the front "I'm flat through the kink..." and the back has "and other lies told at Barber". :-) I am flat there in my Miata NB and 944, not in my Cayman S, Panoz or stock car. T13 - I think is more dangerous than T4 because of the lack of runoff to the left. If you are too early in T12, you track out left at the top of the hill and, if you go four off, introduce yourself to the wall. One last thing - some versions of the track map have 17 turns and some 16. This has changed over time, but can be confusing. The current version is 17 turns. Just move T15 to the top of the map, put T16 where T15 is and replace T16 with T17. Again, excellent video.

Great vid Russ, love seein that C5Z do work. Never driven this track, but it sure seems to have some technical challenges to it and seems to need some real seat time to shave those last couple seconds, within reason. Hope all is well over there!

Helpful video. This car looks like it would be a lot faster if the trail brake oversteer was dialed out of it. Of course, im guessing thats half the fun of driving it!

Great video! Kind of surprises me that you are allowing that much oversteer on purpose. It looks like oversteer caused from understeer during entry

Thanks for video. Any advice for a FWD GTI with around 400 torque and 350+ HP, big brakes and Michelin PS4S tires? This will be my time on track this January 2020 at Barber.

Nice descriptions but why show a lap where you made mistakes in at least 2 corners? do you really not have a lap where you did all the corners correctly? Is that for your 2000 lap video?
