What I LOVE and HATE about Home Reserve Modular Sofa // Is It Worth It? (Part 4) 

Love my sectional,two ends, two armless, and a corner. Fits my odd sized space perfectly, love the storage, custom fabric. Great experience from ordering to delivery to assembly to using. Had mine a year+, holding up great, excellent quality.

Had ours for 10 months now. I have the corner seat, and one extra seat on the left arm. We got a chair and a half a few months later and an ottoman. We have the Tux style too!! We have a purple color. It was really super firm and stiff at first, but it is more comfy now. The wood smell goes away. 3 kids, 2 dogs and 4 cats. Love it!!!

I recommend the "chair-and-a half". It's big enough for two people - or a person and a dog. I like the idea of two ottomans being put together to make a temporary bed. Thanks for your work.

I have a reclining chair in my living room with a view out the window. I got the chair and placed it there specifically for my dog so that she had a cozy spot to do some bird watching. Maybe I am crazy, but it brings me so much joy to see her enjoy it!

Wow Steph, I really like the look of your Modular Sofa. I live in a small house and I have been looking at an L shaped sofa with a sleeper. So I agree with you on the prices verses the West Elm, some things are just pricey. I also agree with you on the smell of OSB, it can be really stinky. I also think that getting some different pillows would be fun for you especially when you can change them in the different seasons. Thanks for another great video, it is always so good to see you. For your corner ottoman, you could use craft grommets on the holes to keep the fabric from fraying in the spot where you had to cut it. Thank you so much for the honest review!

I have had my sectional for over 10 years. I have had some of the foam strips replaced and since I have moved several times I have misplaced some of the covers. And a couple of the seat in the osb have cracked and were replaced with a sturdier piece. The staff are very friendly, professional, and customer service oriented. I replaced the nut/bolts with slightly longer bolts and larger wingnuts to make them easier for me to assemble and attach individual units together. I like being able to rearrange the units. I have an L shape set up during most of the year and then separate them into 2 sofas so my Christmas tree will fit and be the star of the room. I like that the seat cushions are thicker than most sofa cushions. I have washed my covers at least 20 times and fabric holds up nicely. I would like to mention here that I assemble and disassemble the units myself with no problem. I do have to look at the instructions. And I am 70 years old. I am converting a shuttle bus to RV and using Home Reserve units. I plan to take a cover apart, make a pattern, and customize the units to match my bus decor. Yes, I recommend Home Reserve and agree with Steph's review about strengths and weaknesses of the units.

Really like the furniture but I’m on fence about purchase. You mentioned that it would be good if the designed structured updated as pieces are selected. I agree. I have to see how it looks. It's not like a garment you can return if you do not like it. Maybe I can call and see if a diagram can be drawn with the pieces I select.

I am literally on the hunt for a new sofa because there is not enough room on our current sofa when our greyhound is sleeping on it lol. So yeah, I totally relate to this 😅

Very informative, Steph. As for the little holes you have to cut in the fabric to attach the ottoman, or any other piece. I would suggest using Fray Check on them. If you do want to reconfigure your set, you could always use a decorative or covered button attached similar to what you would for tufting. It sounds like the customer service is great so they might send you scrap fabric to make covered buttons to match your ottomans.

My mom got an American sofa from a builder in Virginia Beach. It lasted thirty years and still looks good, but the padding is totally compressed with zero support, while the wood frequently buckles and shifts under weight. It sounds like it's breaking. I think it's time, and I am so glad you reviewed this particular set.

thanks! Was just about to buy this sofa cause I redid my house and made the winodws and hallways a bit smaller, so I can't get a big couch in now! But the smell thing is a drag. Think Ill use a crane to lift it up to my deck and go for a conventional couch.

I really like it except for the smell. I'm not sure whether it would give me more allergy issues and I couldn't handle that, but so far I love everything I see. I don't have any pets per say but I spoil my sisters shepherds and malinois shepherd. They are big dogs, too and I know they would love it!

I bought a different brand but almost the same look, same size but different configuration. It came delivered all put together and they connected the pieces for me. No way would I be able to ever do it even with help, even 30 yrs ago! 🐶 My 6 pound Pomeranian loves her new couch !

We bought one about 20 years ago, for the playroom. It lasted while the kids used it. Now we don't use the playroom too often. I am taking it apart to move to my daughter's apt. Looking for instruction booklet so I can easily put it back together

Thank you for your video! We are thinking about getting one. I've seen in reviews that the wood is messy and flakes off. Some people said you don't want to store blankets in the compartments because they'll get wood flakes on them. But I saw you painted them! Is this something the company recommends? What did you use to seal them? Did the sealing stop the wood from flaking?

What do you think about the seat depth? I read on other reviews that they are rather shallow, and can be uncomfortable. Also, does it smell ? I have 2 dogs and my faux leather sofa smells so bad from them that we are getting a new sofa. We wash and brush the dogs. What do you think? Does it resist the smell? Bc I feel like it would get into the cushions, not just covers.

Is it comfortable? It looks stiff in the bottom cushions. I want to use it as my tv watching couch.

Hello, are you still having issues with the smell? We purchased a sectional two weeks ago very similar to yours actually from Home Reserve. We have taken it apart and painted each piece and have also left it outside on our deck for 48 hours and a good portion of the day it had direct sun, we then brought it into our living room and we could only stand it for two hours! It’s currently downstairs in our basement. We are totally frustrated, and was wondering if you still had this issue? Thanks,

Is sealing it required or recommended?? That seems a lot extra if the company expects that as a standard part of customer assembly.

You never mentioned the comfort level for people. That is my real interest. Is it comfortable? Is it cozy? Is it stiff?

I’m on fence about this furniture. I’ve ordered more fabric samples but my biggest hesitation is the complaints about the depth. Some of said they feel like they are falling off. Others refer to it as kid sized. Can you offer some insight into the depth issue?

Home Reserve sofas used to be much m ore affordable. Their prices have gone up tremendously in recent years.

They don't look deep? I like to curl up on the couch.

I hate mine. Worst couch I ever had. It’s broken in multiple places. Everything is freight shipping so, too much $$$ just for a few pieces. The unfinished wood frame is horrible. & the cheaper fabric, looks like I got the same color, does not hold up in the wash. It pills really bad. Better off shampooing it. I wanna throw mine away, after 1 year. I can’t wait to get a new couch that is not so hard to clean. There’s so many modular sectionals out there that are more affordable and easier to keep clean. These are not kid or dog proof. I have 1 dog, he broke this couch in multiple places. Not to mention it’s not comfortable at all.

I wish I had known about these a few years ago. We thought Sactionals were too expensive so we went to a local furniture store to buy a sectional. My husband ended up convincing me we needed to order a custom made sectional that ended up costing $5k, is WAY too big for our space, the pieces don't lock together and slide around and it doesn't offer nearly as much seating as we thought it would. I went on this company's website and a sectional from there with everything on my wishlist would be $3k 🥲
