I am glad you complained about the size of the screen behind the steering wheel on the 23. Gm is putting in the 11 inch screen in the 24 AT4 model. Thanks too you. I will be ordering one this spring.
GM could have had a top shelf product, but again they go low budget and charge a premium. I still love this truck, but they could have done better. Thanks for watching!
Had mine for a week now. Exact same as yours. 100% agree with all but the dash.Would be nice but really dont care. All redundant anyway. MY gripe is the back seat for the same reasons you stated. Useless for storage. And a Big one is why do we get Carpet Floormats? Maybe so theyre easy on your dress shoes. Why not nice all-weather rubber from GM. Oh thats right. For another $300 you can order OEM ones. Seems to me as a whole, this was set up as a Soccer Mom/ Grocery getter. Up to the buyer to make it a Truck. Still a great truck and am very happy so far.
@@ToddCottaagree with all you said. Out of curiosity, do you know if the wider version of the driver’s display can be purchased as a replacement part and the displays swapped out after purchase?
Picked up my new AT4 Canyon May 10th. Put 649 miles on it the first week. Left from Kansas City for a trip to Oregon. Back home on May 31st. 4356 miles round trip and average mpg of 21.1, even with speed limit of 80 in Idaho and Wyoming. Agree that under seat storage and folding rear seat back should be there. Previous models had that. Power sliding window would be nice but not a game changer for me. Very happy with my Canyon. I had already ordered mine before I found your videos. From watching your videos I’m sure I knew more about how the the new Canyon controls than any of the dealership sales dept. Thanks again.
Hey Todd, it’s your neighbor from Clovis. Dublin GMC delivered my AT4 2 weeks ago. I took it on a 2300 mile trip up to Montana. Averaged 22.3 for the trip. I agree with all of your complaints but I think I’ll get used to them. This truck is great. Comfortable, rides nice and mpg not awful. Love the adaptive cruise and auto high beams. Thanks for your honest reviews.
Picking up my Canyon AT4 later this week, all of your videos have been incredibly helpful as far as getting an idea for what I’m getting into. Can’t wait to get the truck, and completely agree with all the pros and cons you cited. Thank you for doing what you do!!
That is why I made this video. You know they are watching every feed about this truck. But I really don't believe the bean counters at GM really care. Thanks for watching!
That truck is really sweet, and I'm glad I ordered my ZR2 in that desert sand color because it looks great. I'd like a power rear window but I got my ZR2 with the sunroof so it'll be power open/close to rapid ventilate the cab. The ZR2 gets almost all the premium stuff including the 11 inch instrument panel behind the steering wheel as well as heated/ventilated leather power seats and some other premium offroad things like the amazing DSSV dampers, some aggressive 33 inch wranglers, the 3 inch lift, Baja drive mode and the new rock sliders. The whole package with the paint and the sunroof is $46,000 USD. I realize that the AT4 has a little more soft-touch and leather on the doors and dashboard, and the HUD which my ZR2 doesn't get but it seems like I'm getting a heck of a lot more Truck for almost 5 grand less cost. I guess it just comes down to personal needs and priorities. Anyway, great truck and another helpful video too. Thanks👍🏻
I 100% agree with you on these issues. I will add that the door panel should have soft touch material above the arm rest and below the window, along with offering an interior color that isn’t dominated by black. I am waiting on the Toyota Tacoma to see how they price their truck before making a decision on which one I will buy.. thanks for the review..
I understand the frustration with the quirks 100% but in my personal use, they don’t bother me much. I’m coming from a 1995 Jeep Wrangler 😂. The Trail Boss is my first ever new truck and I absolutely love it. I feel it has more power and torque than my 4.0L on the wrangler. Love, love, love it.
Yeah when you come from a Jeep from that era to the trail boss it's not much of a leap. But I wish they would have made the trail boss at least in a few more option levels like the LT. That would have made it a much nicer truck.
I can't tell you how many people said that. I'm a shill for general motors. I have no obligation to support them. I do love this truck but I am not going to sugarcoat it either. Thanks for watching!
Great review. I currently own a 2017 Colorado Z71 with the diesel and I have been trying to decide between the new Colorado and Canyon. Your dislikes are some of the items I’ve already noticed that my 2017 does have. My back seats fold down, it’s convenient to have a flat bench. My back seats have a fold down arm rest with cup holders. I wish the diesel was still available, it may not be as powerful as the new 2.7, but it’s nice getting 30mpg on the freeways. But that new truck sure is beautiful.
JUST BOUGHT A 23 GMC CAYNON DENALI AND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON THE BACK SEAT, I HAD A 2019 DENALI CAYNON AND THE BACK SEAT FOLDED DOWN AND THERE WAS A LOT MORE ROOM FOR STORAGE UNDER THE SEAT! YES AND NO GARAGE DOOR OPENER EVEN ON A DENALI! WTH AND VOICED MY DESPLEASURE WITH MY 2019 TO GM BUT EVIDENTLY THEY DON'T LISTEN TO THEIR CUSTOMERS!
I love your review. I totally agree with you about the back seat. The jack should have been stored at the rear of the seat and the bottom of the seat should have been an option for owner accessible storage. This would have been more efficient. They clearly missed the mark on everything you mentioned. If they change those things, i would buy the truck for sure, it's the best looking and capable truck on the market. Hopefully next year they would make those recommended changes. Overall in my opinion they should offer a hybrid electric motor; range, torque and silence when needed (especially when hunting) would give this already awesome truck a massive advantage over anything else available. REVUEZIT keep coming with the reviews!
I just hit 3,000 on my Denali. I agree with most of what you said. Gauge cluster: it was actually one of the reasons I didnt get the AT4. Nuts that it isnt standard, although i am sure there will be a way to "hack" it in the near future. It is just a computer screen after all. The backseat... ya... no idea why it cant fold down. Glad you confirmed it because I thought maybe I was an idiot. Gas mileage... I am happy with. I have bigger nobbier 33" tires and still average 21-23 on highways (23.4 is my best 50 mile). Rear window... I agree that it is ridiculous it isn't power but not a concern for me. I NEVER opened the rear window on my raptor that I owned for 6 years and it was powered. My biggest complaints are: i have a denali and my windshield wipers aren't automatic!? Come onnnnn And ive experienced issues with my infotainment system. Ive had to hard reset the teuck by unplugging the battery because the operating system wouldnt boot up. I also have issues connecting to streaming services through the truck at least once a week. (Turning off truck and turning it back on fixes it sometimes). And finally, ive had my speakers sound like they were blown and didnt fix itself until i turned off the truck for 5 minutes and came back to it.
2024 AT4 has the 11 inch gauge cluster. Just ordered mine. I agree however that the backseat needs a redesign for useable storage. Thanks for the review.
I see that. I actually sent a letter to GM asking them why premium trucks are not premium. I requested a replacement dash cluster 11 inch. They denied, but now it is standard equipment one year later. Thanks for watching!
Just ordered my 2024 GMC Canyon AT4 in Summit White with 20" wheels , sunroof, premium package, bed liner, Bose speakers, tow package, could take 4 months or more to get. thanks for all of the videos and your thoughts on the AT4.
Awesome! I still love my truck. Getting ready to do my 12 months of ownership video with my buddy Ed. I just wish there was more storage room in the back seat.
I gotta say I've got an F250 w/ power sliding rear window. I can count on one hand with fingers left over the number of times I have opened/closed it. And one of those was at the dealer when I bought the truck saying, "oh cool a power rear sliding window". I do agree with the lack of storage. The Canyon/Colorado doesn't have much storage in it at all. My wife views it as a good thing as I back my truck full of crap I won't see again until I buy another truck 10yrs later.
I have to say, I agree about the storage stuff, but I have load straps, and hitches that need to be protected. Rear sliding window, is a nothingberger for me also. Thanks for watching!
Really appreciate your videos! Have watched all of them as you released them. Really helped me pull the trigger and my AT4 is in production this week! Also agree with all your points. I’d feel worse if there was a truck out there doing everything right. But it’s like the manufacturers get together to decide who gets to be best at what haha. Guess GMC got exterior and interior design this year. You bet I’m getting an 11in driver infotainment in there tho when the part is available in a few years. But should definitely be available during initial build…
I"m only about 500 miles into my Canyon, so far so good. My only complaint is the unremovable headrest. I'm only 5'11 but I have a taller torso and short legs. Anyhow, if I adjust the headrest to the back of my head it's very uncomfortable as it pushes your head forward and strains the neck. What I normally would do is reverse it so that it leans back but you can't remove them. I got this neck support from amazon that clamps on to the bars to mitigate. I just put on some running boards today, the GM ones that are $395. I used my points and a 15% coupon code and got them for $180.
Looks like they are making trucks for the masses not hunters these days. A guess you would need to put a light bar on the truck and use aux switch. Thanks for commenting!
You hit the nail on the head. I've had mine for 1 week and VERY happy, but the points you bring up are valid. Quick question. Looking at the front windshield from the outside on my AT4, there is a channel on both sides and the top between the windshield and the truck frame, almost like its missing molding or something. Is yours like this and it's the way it's supposed to be, or am I missing some parts?
Just ran out to my truck and checked. Mine has a 1/4 inch gap on both sides and a bit closer on the top edge. Looks like it was engineered that way. I have taken my truck to pressure car washes several times in the past three months and never a problem. I guess they figured trim there does not do any improvement to the water seal, so why have it. Thanks for watching.
I think my Tundra is like that as well. I think they do that for water run off. We have a Honda that is smooth molded and water always runs down the center of the window when you hit the brakes when it is raining...never in the tundra.
Great job calling them out on this stuff man. I appreciate people who aren't corporate suck ups and keep it honest. I do that on my channel. I get a lot of hate for it but I care more about getting the truth out there than trying to get people to like me.
I have no allegiance to an automaker although I really don't like Ford because I was forced to drive them for years as a Deputy Sheriff. Thanks for the kind words.
I bought this truck also. Mine has the lift kit and side steps. I wanted the AT4X, and i live right down the road from the GMC truck assembly plant in flint michigan. Thought it would be easy to find a canyon AT4X. I found none and was inpatient so settled for the AT4. BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TRUCK. hopefully gas prices go down tho.
I test drove this AT4 truck and wasn’t impressed. I ended up buying the 2023 ford lariat tremor. This truck has the rear folding seat, home link button , fox shocks , heated leather seats etc. great truck , we love it. We will be taking it up to mammoth Ca in two weeks. Ford makes a better truck and we got it for $51k OTD. 😊
If those are the only things you “hate” looks like you made a good decision. I am picking up my new canyon tomorrow…I opted for Denali so one of those issues will be off my list. Thanks for all the great content!!
I dont think youre cluster is bad. Its a really good cluster. The WT cluster is actually way too much for a entry level work truck. Id rake an analogue cluster on my WT trim if they were available.
I guess GM agrees with me. They are totally ditching the 8 inch screen in 2024. So looks like we were test mules for the Canyon/Colorado trucks for GM. I don't know why they went to all that effort to make two different ones, when it would have been about the same costs with out the engineering, and double ordering of two different clusters. Oh well, I still love my truck. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
I agree on the instrument cluster and the back seat that doesn't fold flat those items are absolutely deal breakers for me. That's why I buy we'll buy the 2024 Ford Ranger.
Yes I agree, I had to go with the Denali I wanted the full screen, coming from the old 2004 Colorado to this much bigger pickup, I'm using the cameras to make sure I am in the lanes. I don't have the time on anything while having the cameras on, not on driver's information screen with the 11 inch, simple to have right next to outside temp. Have to ask Google for the time and that interrupts the music.
I turn my lights off almost daily. I share a rural driveway. When I go in or out after dark, I drop down to parking lights as a courtesy to my neighbor. In my truck I can just flip a switch (without looking) to kill the lights. The Canyon requires tapping through a menu on the screen. PITA. I will concede it's a great looking truck. But headlight controls are pretty basic and should be a physical switch for me.
The light switch is not inside of the infotainment system. It's simply a button on the front top screen. It takes about 2 seconds to turn the lights off. There's no menus to go through. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for your honest review. I have been lusting over the new GMC Canyon since late last fall. You can't get one here at my local dealers in South Carolina. I am currently driving a 2018 GMC Sierra with only 23K miles and it has power everything and a 6.2L motor. It almost has too ,much power. And my gas mileage is incredible good. Around town mostly 16 to 17 MPG but on the open highway I actually got 30.9 Mpg . It easily gets 25 to 26 MPG on the highway. So I am torn between keeping this truck or buying an AT4 Canyon. Also the new Toyota Tacoma looks to be awesome. If GMC can't get there vehicles to the dealers soon I will wait for Toyota. Thanks again for your reviews.
No doubt the Sierra is a better, more equipped truck. But the east of driving and parking is a huge plus with these smaller trucks. Have fun on your truck hunting adventure
I bought a 23 denali my biggest let down is the no garage door opener and my side mirriors are not auto folding and the back window isnt auto. To be honest I didnt notice these things until after I bought. I thought all that would have come standard especially on a denali. The emergency braking doesnt really work in reverse or atleast mine doesnt. If it did my wife wouldn't have backed into a light pole causing 2k in damage. The sad thing is my wifes 22 hybrid santa fe has has all this and her emergency braking works in reverse because it saved us one day. When a car snuck in behind us and she didn't notice. The car actually stopped. And her car is a year older and cost 15k less than my 23 gmc canyon denali.
I kind of feel the same way. I had a 2020 GMC Sierra AT4 and I thought it would have the same equipment nope. But the penny pinchers at GMC are doing their jobs well.
Great vid. Thanks for the honesty. Looks like I'll hold off a couple model years to see if they rectify some those complaints because they would drive me up the wall. Don't need a new truck right now so I've got time.
@@ToddCotta probably but it's people like you who make their voices heard that actually makes a difference. Maybe you could retrofit a rear seat from a different model?
Ordered a 2024 AT4 I’m sure it will take 6+ months but your videos helped me decide on one…I guess your complaint about the infotainment worked because they are making the larger gauge cluster standard across the board on the 2024 trims.
I guess they heard you and everyone else who mentioned that they should include the 11" digital cluster. According to GM Authority, 2024 AT4 models will include that as standard option.
Well that's not good for us. 23 guys that got screwed then is it? But yes I agree you spend this much money on a premium truck. You should get premium parts.
@@ToddCotta Absolutely. I think a rule of thumb is to wait for the second year new gen releases so all bugs and shortcomings get sorted. Regardless, great review! You really brought up good points and it's this type of feedback (as well as competitive pressure) that helps the consumer at the end.
I agree with all your issue’s of the truck plus I would have appreciated a Panoramic roof & the most important that I would have liked a small light on the doors when they are open at night . They didn’t even put a reflector on the doors . I just picked up by black Denali 4 days ago . It’s a hazard at night when the door is open on a busy road . My 1999 Benz has a small light on the door when it is opened at night . My 1999 Mercedes roadster has a t
I agree with the issues but I'm loving my Canyon AT4. Im coming from a 2001 Sierra so talk about a gigantic leap. My biggest complaint is there is not enough cushion and the hard plastic on the door. I'm constantly readjusting my left arm to find more comfortable positions.
I completely agree about the cluster screen its ridiculous. I cant decide what model to get because i want the 11" screen but I hate all the chrome on the Denali. I'd get the ZR2 but GM doesn’t offer the employee discount on the top models, also ridiculous.
The trend these days is manufacturers cutting corners and prices keep increasing. This Canyon certainly looks good, no question. However, something like a Honda Ridgeline isn't as "cool" but is way more comfortable, drives better and has more roomy comfortable back seats. It also has decent rear storage with the seat cushions flipped up. Yea it's not a pack leader for towing, hauling but as a daily driver midsize truck it's still imo the one to beat. I'll be interested to see the reviews on the new upcoming Tacoma.
The Ridgeline has come a long way. I sat in one a few months back. It is a great truck. But, I believe it has a shroud of "Metro suburbia" surrounding it and not for work or heavy duty. This turns of traditional truck buyers. Thanks for joining the conversation!
I’ve had my AT4 for maybe about a month or so and I think my biggest gripe literally falls on the gauge cluster not being the full 11” across like the Denali and AT4X gets. I’m hoping in the future maybe there will be a way to either upgrade to the full gauge cluster or to “hack it” myself and just update it from something online. Hopefully, they can fix that, because it’s quite literally my only complaint with the truck so far. It’s overall been a great truck to own and I’ve loved driving it. Thanks again for your reviews, Tod!
There is no Hack, and according to the GM help line there is no retrofit of the larger screen available. I know for a fact that is not true. It is just a new driver cluster, and software update. My problem is, I could not be more that a few dollars more for the 11 inch compared to the 8 inch. They are just doing that to make us yearn for the most expensive trucks. The Silverado and Sierra LT and above all l have the large screen. Just because it is a mini truck, does not mean we don't deserver the nice stuff too. I agree with you on every point.
@@ToddCotta That’s pretty dumb honestly. While I’m not going to hold out that we can somehow get it in the future, I would love to have it. I almost got every package on my AT4, except for the sports bar one. I would have thought that maybe the 11” screen would have MAYBE been an extra add on or something, but GMC just wants me to pay more for their Denali I guess. Ah well, if the only thing I’m complaining about is the dash, then I think I have a pretty good truck for me. It’s just one of those things you’d think they might give to every model, but I think you’re entirely right about them wanting people to buy the Denali/AT4X.
The ZR2 gets the full size gauge cluster. Some of the metallic paints are no upcharge on the ZR2 and it comes with a spray in bed liner as well. Thats a $1000 bucks in upgrades on the other trucks.
Talk about the back seat failures, there appears to be no foot and leg room there either!! The seat back is attached to the cab wall, the bed is too short, looks like the driver seat is all GM was concerned with
My garage door opening is about 81” and I can’t find any measurements got the canyon at4 height including the small antenna on the roof. Is the antenna able to be angled down? Could you provide a measurement? I still can’t find one locally in person. Thanks for your videos great coverage!
Don't knock it until you have tried it. It is a pretty fun motor. What is the harm in taking a demo out for a spin?? You realize the Ranger and Taco are all going 4cyl right? Thanks for watching!
With the cluster, what I find odd also is you seem to be only able to get the big cluster in the ZR2 for the Chevy's. If you want the higher trips to have a different cluster, that's fine, that's fine. But rather than doing a smaller all-digital cluster that looks like poop cause it doesn't fill the space, make it a hybrid digital/analog, and let your Denali have the all digital. The smaller one just looks like an afterthought. I think what would've worked is have you "work truck" cluster, a mid range cluster(such as the hybrid I mentioned above), then your high end cluster for you ZR2/Denali/AT4X.
Great observations. My thing is the larger cluster could not be more than a few bucks to upgrade at the factory level. Either way they have to buy the cluster. They are just trying to milk more money out of buyers. If GMC is supposed to be the "Premium Grade" trucks, then make them premium! Thanks for watching!
I went to my local gmc dealership yesterday to look at the AT4. Wile I was there, I mentioned to the salesman that a lot of people are concerned about the headlight switch being on the infotainment screen. People are concerned if the screen dies will you still have headlights. He told me that a rep from GM told him yes you would still have headlights , that it was wired different. To witch I said then you should be able to add switch if you wanted too and he said yes. I don't know if he is correct you may want to check it out with GM.😊
I have not seen or heard anything about adding a manual switch to the trucks. It doesn't bother me because mine are on auto and the truck will not really work at all with the screen off. But yes there is comfort in manual switches for sure. Funny how Tesla owners never complain about it. Thanks for watching!
All I am trying to say is if the salesman information is correct, then anyone could add a switch if they wanted too. Iam fine with it I always have mine on automatic
Presume you have a power passenger seat ? Colorado buyers don't have that option and you need a periscope if you are sitting in the passenger seat so you can see out over the dash. Great job on calling out the things GM should have done right in the first place.
Cost cutting is a real thing. I hate how GM thinks just because it is a smaller truck it is not as important and the Sierra or Silverado. Why can't they make both the truck sizes awesome?? Thanks for watching!
Coil springs are far less capable than leafs which is why leafs make more sense on a truck. Some trucks are going to coils but their payload suffers as a result. As nice as trucks are getting, they're still trucks so the carrying capability needs to come first.
I agree. Who REALLY cares and touches their headlights. If that’s the biggest nitpick then they did something great. However, maybe I haven’t figured it out. But you have to turn the fog lights on every single time. I want them on all the time. That’s just me. I have the Denali so the cluster for me is no big deal. The sliding window should be power. That’s my only real thing for me.
It’s actually really funny how GM decided to nix the usage of two different size digital gauge clusters after only one year. The full size 11 inch one is standard on everything from the Colorado work truck to the Canyon AT4X for 2024. Why did they even think it was a good idea in the first place to have different sizes, especially for the Canyon which they touted as a ‘premium’ version of the Colorado. It’s one of those little things that they didn’t think through which is just frustrating.
I snail mailed them a long letter telling them that they are losing customers for $25 price difference. A demanded they send my dealership the 11 inch dash screen. They called me back... Then did nothing. It looks like they woke up and are listening to the customers.
Great input of what GM could change and make a $50k truck more functional and premium for the amount of $$$$ it cost. Def need a power back window and folding seat
Great review. I've been going back and forth between AT4 loaded and Denali. I'm probably going to go Denali for the cluster and ventilated seats. Didn't realize no "home link" in either. My last five vehicles ranging from a Chrysler 200 to a Mazda CX-5 all had that standard. GM should've copied the Honda Ridgeline back seat. Flips completely up and leaves a flat floor. You can put a bicycle in the back seat of a Ridgeline.
Good choice! Yes Homelink would have been nice. I don't know what GM is thinking. Plus no folding rear seat really sucks. I wanted to put a base sub woofer behind the seat but it was a no go. SMH Thanks for watching!
I have a 2023 Canyon Denali and love it. There are a few minor issues, as you note (I do get the larger cluster screen). I would add the one thing that really cheeses me off about almost all cars; only the driver side is auto up. I have one touch down on all windows, why not up?
Nice review, Nice looking truck. Had one for 2 and half months and had to get rid off it. Nothing but electrical issues since day one off the lot, with no GM support. Been in and out of the dealer with out fixing the problems. Open a case with GMC and they had no solution on fixing the truck and just gave the round about how there engineers are working on a solution. Before you buy this truck based on looks and performance do more research on other forums. There known for many issues across the board. Look at autotrader nation wide and you can see how many are already traded in with low miles. Mpg is horrible on this too, not even close what they claim. I will never ever ever own a GM product again. I have owned a lot of vehicles in my life, by far this is the worst truck i have owned.
GM sure has been getting a bad reputation for ignoring it's own mechanical and electrical problems. The Baby Duramax is also another issue that GM never addressed and let the customers just live with it. The company has a lot of brand trust lost and must work hard to improve their products. So far this has been an awesome truck. I hope it lasts. Thanks for commenting!
Also thanks for all the videos your doing about it I search a lot about this new canyon one think you didn’t mention but in Canadá since is metric system there’s no way to change the units only for the tires it only show in kpa which I hate
Nah, headlights being tactile feedback is better than having to look at a screen. A button you can feel without needing to take your eyes off the road. I don't like auto, because I want my headlights on all the time.
bought a 2024 and the engine is terrible, to get the power you always have to have your foot in it and it is always sounds like it is in too high a gear. Plus if you roll a stop you it hesitates to take off. A nonturbo 6 would have been much better. I question the 310hp, must be at high RMP after the turbo lag is gone. I agree with the same bad items other than the gauges cluster. They must have upgraded that in 2024 cause i get multiple options to show and I think it is very updated.
I have an AT4X on order but no news yet. I do wish that they went with a coil rear end. Better ride more control, more articulation. That's my big thing, especially now that every manufacturer is move to it. Its just better. I was considering the Ranger Raptor, which will be a bit better off road, but no ventilated seats and long wait time(maybe with all GMs problems)
I just got my canyon Denali last week i was thinking to get the at4 but I didn’t like the 8” cluster but I was surprised that the Denali is the same regarding to the back slide window. Well I would be nice to have it powered but I can survive so other than that I can’t complain I love my truck
I got mixed up. I had so many numbers going through my brain, i mess up. Still its a pretty great truck. My Gladiator seat folded down and locked. LOVED that feature. Thanks for commenting!
I think all of your complaints are probably cost-cutting measures from GM. I agree with your complaints about the gauge packages.. All of the model lines in the Canyon/Colorado line should have the full usage of the driver gauge pod. Also, that manual window slider is lame.. Also a cost-cutting measure no doubt.
Cost cutting? You mean profit increasing because this truck was $50k. Cutting costs should mean cheaper trucks. But no we are taking it in the rear. Thanks for watching!
Just purchased one like yours. You hit it on the head well done. One more question: does your BSM give an audible warning? I cant seen to make it do that. That was a simple but lacking thing on my 2019 Tacoma that i just traded in for this one. New Taco hybrid claims to only have 6000 lb towing, wow...
dude, you saved me a lot of money. that back seat was my problem also. really hope you have the $$ to do a review on the 2024 tacoma trd pro or trailhunter.
I just reviewed the 2021 Tacoma. I would love to be able to get my hands on a 2024 as soon as possible. I think they're doing great things over there at Toyota. Thanks for watching.
Ordered and waiting on my 2024 Denali. My complaint before I even got it was the manual rear slide window. And no shocks for the front hood when opening . Coming from a 2020 F 150 which I love the ride but just don’t need the size . I know I’ll miss the room in the rear but my question do you think I’ll still like the ride ? I think the seat height is close to the same ? Anyway thanks for the review a year late but I’ve been watching them all on RU-vid. Hope my wait isn’t much longer closing in on 2 months
Yup and Yup. Even with these short comings, people will still buy and that is EXACTLY why GM Cost accountants can slice out a few dollars here and there. Power rear slider, hood struts, under hood light, LED lights all around, folding rear seat, usable storage under rear seat, home link and would make this good truck really great for only a few bucks more. But they don't want that. They just want you to buy it over the competition.
You would think an AT4 would be the same setup from the Sierra to the Canyon, but NOPE! It would have been a GREAT truck, not just a smaller truck with less features. They always wonder why Tacoma beats them, its because they do things like this. I still love my truck, but yeah, GM could have done much better. I do really wish the back seat folded down but that not going to happen. Have a great day!
Can you adjust the headlights lights when the truck is moving? Or do you have to stop the vehicle to do it? Another major bummer is the lack of power sliding rear window.
I did it this morning turning my fog lights on. I actually commented to my dad that turning fog lights on is easier than my previous Sierra that had three small light buttons in the middle of the switch. Half of the time I would hit the bed light and not fog lights. It is pretty quick and simple to use. I never use my rear slider so it does not matter to me. Thanks for commenting.
I love my new 2023 2wd Canyon Elevation its black on black and that color looks awsome on this body styling. Personally I could care less about the back seat because I only put groceries and luggage back there. I also have been getting (after driving 1200 miles) an average of 21 mpg combining city and hwy milage. Its a joy to drive and the 8 speed transmission is silky smooth compared to my old 2019 Sierra. As of now I have not seen any 2023s on the road in the Fort Worth TX area.
Do you like the hard roll bed topper? I have a Canyon on order, and that will be my first thing to get. I have the fold one on my F150 but don’t like how it blocks the mirror if you have it up
I have the rollup from Bak Insustries. X4s I LOVE it. if you watch the part where I am talking about the bed of the truck it only covers half of the window. So fare I think its the best cover I have every gotten. Highly recommended. Thanks for asking!
That's something you never really think about when you're buying a truck because it's just not something you do and then when you find out it's like bummer. Thanks for watching
2024 trucks are getting the big screen apparently. Good luck with a retrofit though. Non-folding back seat is a borderline deal-breaker for me. I have a 2022 Colorado now and they fold down. Can't imagine why this can't have it. And because of that, the jack being there is silly. Behind the seat in my current truck. Screen-controlled lighting is a big miss in my opinion, I have to override mine all the time (and I can do that by feel, whereas this will be eyes off the road every time). Biggest one is the bed lights are buried a couple screens deep. Give me a damn button for that. Shouldn't have to boot up the screen to use bed lights. I love the new truck but their engineers made some decisions that may push me into a Ranger. Which sucks cause the AT4 is beautiful.
That back seat thing is a read bummer. My 2022 Gladiator actually has lockable back seats with storage areas. It is the easiest thing to engineer and yet they wanted to cut costs so they screwed us. Thanks for watching!
I live up just outside Edmonton alberta. I've been following every GMC and GM dealer in area ( about 10 dealer) .Between them all I believe there's been maybe 4 Canyons arrive to dste and very few Colorado's and only low end models. Everything has been " shipping " for over 2 months. I'm seriously thinking now about waiting till 2024's arrive. Hopefully a few of your suggested tweaks will be on the 24's. These protracted shipping delays have me a bit leery about hidden issues
Great video! Been following along with your reviews of this truck and I pulled the trigger on ordering one, this will be my first truck. Only thing I can't seem to find any information on is the USB ports and the media system. I tend to put audio books on a USB and plug it in to the media system. I'm guessing this truck can do the same?
Glad I could help! There are four USB ports in the cab, two charge ports in back seat, two media ports in the front seat. If you play your podcasts are on your phone the wireless phone hookup works great. I have audible.com app that auto loaded from my phone. Have a great day!
I just loaded some audio onto a USB jump drive. I plugged it into the port below the radio. Selected USB on the infotainment screen, and BOOM it worked. You can play MP3 on the radio with a USB drive.
Yes they are auto lights. It is super easy to turn on and off. I was worried a bit, but I drive a Tesla also and there are no physical buttons, so if it is so good for Tesla, why is it so bad for GM? Thanks for watching!
1000% agree with the backseat not folding down. Totally absurd. In fact I'm in the market and as much as I like the Canyons I probably will not buy it because of this reason. Looks like it's a Ranger or Taco for me.
All points are dead on! With disability impairments I feel the 11" instrument cluster is a must as is the heads up display, however I want an off-road feature package truck like the AT4 and you can only get that stuff in the AT4X or Denali and since the AT4X was limited preorder it’s not like there’s another option to get those features. I also hate all the chrome on the Denali so that doesn’t appeal to me at all. It’s strange to me GM brought the platform so close to perfection and then was like "ehhh good enough". The non-Golding back seat also kills me as I wanted to be able to fold it flat for cargo or for my service dog, but now I’d be more likely to consider removing the backseat entirely. With pricing being so close to the full size they’re pushing more potential clients towards a Sierra or another brand imo.
what do you think would happen if you got a display and plugged it in , I know Ive done things like that before in the past and sometimes it worked out , sometimes the logic isn't there to support it , I think it would work. Now if andre from TFL put a steering wheel that had adaptive controls on it I think he would need the cpu flashed at a minimum. in my day Ive gone to junkyards and plucked things off cross models and made them work or sometimes found out it won't work , At some point I think someone will sell a 11 inch upgrade for the info screen . One time for my truck I had a basic rear view mirror just glass and wanted the on star with the map lights so I picked one up off a sedan at a junk yard and it worked beautiful and looked stock, the harness was even there for power I couldn't be more happy, then I realized they dont make 10 harnesses for lesser opted vehicles there just laying dead sometimes and sometimes you get lucky. yes your right there just trying to push people to the higher trims levels , but i agree the info screen is in your face and you have to look at it every minute so why not be 11 inch when it could be. If i was you I would find a way to stow the baggage in the rear bed there is a way and they make the bass module by kicker for the useless under seat cause thats about all its good for is an 8 inch sub. Im not going to get bummed out with sliding rear glass when I have 5 other windows that I can control. The screen would annoy me and have to get figured out.
Like I said in the video I never use my rear slider. But some do. I don't want to bother with the screen like that. My next project is a dash GoPro mount behind the screen. Thanks for watching!
