The book you received has such a beautiful cover! I will have to look it up now! 😄 I've been wanting to read an Octavia E. Butler novel for quite some time now. I think I'll start with Parable of the Sower but if I like it I will continue with Kindred. Good to see you liked it! Earthsea has also been on my TBR for ages by the way. 🙈
Butler also has a lot of short stories which are fantastic, that’s how I first got into her work. And yes!! Definitely check out Seasons of Albadone, it’s awesome
I respect the fact that you’ve kept up with your book buying ban. I’ve been trying so hard and failing so badly. You and Andy are going to make me finally read Malazan this year. And glad you liked Memory. I can’t wait to read Desolation here soon! Have you read The Wayfarer novels by Becky Chambers? I feel like if you liked Memory you would like those too. Happy reading 😀😃😀
You can get Seasons of Albadone in hardcover (and ebook and paperback) here: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08XLJ926D/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=&sr= and check out Ash from Pages in the Stars here: ru-vid.com/show-UCV8d66y_Y2kEaWPIB5NL8iA
Congratulations on your first blurb! Such exciting news! I couldn't disagree more with the reviewer's criticism about Kindred. I loved that the time travel "science" element was kept mysterious. That book is so impactful for the relationships and themes. So glad to hear your thoughts on Kindred. I think it deserves more attention on BookTube.
So many great books. I read Kindred recently and it what hit me the most was the way it depctated the loss of innocence and how people become evil. As an individual who grew up in a rural area in the south, I must sadly say that Rufus reminded me a lot of children I went to school with and grew up alongside.
Rufus is such a hard character to grapple with, as you literally see him grow up from a small, innocent child, to a monster of a man. Kindred is indeed a masterful portrayal of how no one is born evil, or racist.
Libby has destroyed me (in the best way possible: death by books!) Aww congrats on the blurb! Glad you loved Kindred. I'll say it again - Octavia E Butler is unparalled in sci fi. I'm reading her Seed to Harvest series right now and it's amazing. I've read nearly everything she's written and everything is equally outstanding and unique from the others. Hope you read more by her :)
I’m definitely planning on reading more Butler, I have the Lilith’s Brood series on Kindle so I’m excited to start that one of these days. Miss you on booktube, please come back 🥺
I’ve been really interested in the murderbot books though I’ve heard mixed things. I’m glad you ended up enjoying it, like “bout to add it to my shopping cart” glad haha.
