Taiwan's basic ingredients are expensive, because it is a small island surrounded by the sea, and the limited products have to rely on imports. But general restaurants in Taiwan are relatively cheap, because the salaries in the catering industry are not high. Compared with European and American countries who are used to cooking by themselves, Taiwanese eat out more often. As a Taiwanese, I think the best thing about Taiwan is convenience, including the proximity to mountains and oceans. And the biggest disadvantage is still the traffic safety and the unsightly buildings.
As a native Taiwanese, Taishin Bank is my favorite Bank in Taiwan. It's a local Taiwanese bank corporation, but very professional and willing to move forward to improve itself, no matter in customer service, financial services, or even user experience design. It's Rechart app is fully functioning and super user-friendly. I'm glad to see Taishin is providing its services to foreigners and Non-Native Mandarin Speakers to smooth the banking processes in Taiwan.
Hi Jen, been living here for a year, followed you since you moved to Taiwan. The Tashin bank info and the Saftey app info is great info so thank you for that. Finding a bank here can be so challenging especially if you cannot read Mandarin Chinese. So glad I followed you for this! Thanks!
Thank you sooooo much for this video!! It is so hard to find information about moving to Taiwan online. Almost everything you said was brand new information for me! Really helpful!
I'll never move to Taiwan, or anywhere else, but I love all the little edits, and and captions you used to cram in so much useful information in an easy-to-understand, yet comprehensive style. The narration is outstanding. You always do a great job on your videos, but this one is simply outstanding for this type of "What ya gotta know" video. This will be so helpful for anyone planning a move to Taiwan, but also help folks thinking about what considerations are important before moving anywhere. 🐨✨
I hope so!!! I found it hard finding recent info online before moving to here myself & wish I found something like this. And thank you always Dave for the support 🐨♥️
sofa。The suggestions mentioned in the video are very practical, and Taishin Bank is also one of the banks that I mainly use. It is very helpful for foreigners who want to come to Taiwan!!
Funny that I was just looking to see if you've posted any new video yesterday and here we are. Congratulations on the baby. I would also add that branded clothing/footwear is oddly expensive in Taiwan.
Everything is good!! I got pregnant and have a 3 month old baby now :) I post on instagram as it’s easy. RU-vid is too much work for me at the moment. I should do a life update there one day 😅😂
For a video you could always string together all the instagram videos and pictures into one video to catch us up :) just a thought! Glad you got to see your mom too (I just binged all of your instagram haha)
@@LayersOfJenn oh that totally makes sense. Glad that RU-vid analytics can tell you that kind of stuff. Hard to balance it all .) we will wait for you no worries
I was looking for information about some other subject before being led to one of your vlog, then I kept watching one after another. I am so impressed, you are so smart, positive and open-minded. in such short time, you’ve been to Jade mountain and Penghu islands. You know 591 and keep receipts😱, you know all our secrets already😆😆. The most incredible thing is, I found we live close to each other😄 in Hsinchu. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time here! 🌹
Awe thank you so much!! I’ve been taking time off of RU-vid because I had a baby here :) I’m happy to see I still get really nice comments!! If you ever see me pushing a stroller around hsinchu, plz say hi 👋🏻
1 秒前 Sure! I think I saw you once with a stroller. You must be very busy with a new born baby. I am a mother of two. I know it’s going to be a sweet and a little bitter time for a first time mom. Wish you all the best! By the way, you speak Chinese well, you must be studying hard.
So glad to see your video again. I was wondering what you were busy with. Hope to see more of your videos and more regularly too ... if you can manage. ^^
Hello, Miss Jennifer. Anyway, I think learning Mandarin language in advance may a challenge, need to understand the surroundings and locals. Pretty have no idea that Taiwan is always humid, after traveling there for several times.
My dehumidifier is the best purchase I’ve ever made here in Taiwan 😂. And I agree with some things being pricey, groceries (at least the groceries I need to buy) are so expensive compared to back home. Wine is pricey too. My money goes to wine and groceries 😂
I would just write down some basic phrases!! Do you know where you’ll be!? I always found in Taipei, MANY people speak English and will be willing to help you in English!
Alcoholic drinks are indeed not cheap especially for cocktails. BUT, if you are a Scotch drinkers then the bottle prices are very very good compared to the US or even the UK
You were my go to hub for information on day to day life and moving to Japan. And now that im here in Japan and youre making a moving to Taiwan video, it's just so weird 😂. Interesting video though!
@@LayersOfJenn yeah I live in Chigasaki and it's been 3 years and I love it! I had so many anxieties about it but watching you and your daily life and various tips and tricks really set me at ease before the move. Thank you for that 🙏 ❤️
Hi Jenn. Great video. I'm thinking about moving back to Taiwan after a few years back home as a teacher. It would mean taking a salary cut, but I miss Taiwan, mostly the food and climate to be honest.
Good vid! Been here with some other guys since begining of april for training. we have managed to get by just fine, one of my biggest concerns was communication but it really is not as bad as I expected. I have found that food and transportation is the cheapest here but Im calculating in us dollars nt everything seems expensive lol. I would defiantly recomend the october bar in hsinchu for a friendly watering hole, the owner is super nice and the staff speaks english and they play american music.
Glad you’re managing just fine ~ I definitely find it way easier to live here than in Japan in regards to language. And I’ve been to October bar just once and it seemed fun. I’m pregnant now so I won’t be frequenting any bars soon 😂 but good for others to read and put it on their list!
@LayersOf_Jenn congrats! Ya we are at the ambassador so we have stayed close to it for most part, we went to monkey mountain sat and went to the marina on sunday and saw all the kites out for mothers day. Can you recomend any really kewl places to see in town. Oh and stanleys is an awesome steak house we love it there or din tai fung lol
As someone who was one of your earliest followers on yt, I know you never talk politics, never mind geo-politics, but are you not concerned at all Taiwan could become another Ukraine or worse? Lovely to see you again, I still have the image in my mind of you modelling baggy trousers and a chiffon scarf lol!
If you type into google, a lot will show up for Taipei! You might have to switch your Apple Store (if iPhone) to Taiwan. You might not as well!! I’m in the Japan store but could still download my apps!
For Taipei I would recommend Taipei bus tracker.😊 The times on that one are sometimes more accurate than Google maps but usually Google maps is also fine😄. Have fun in Taiwan!
As a Taiwanese-Canadian, I would have to say we could do a better job advertising and promoting tourism/immigration materials. There's a really lack of draw other than the tourist spots in Taipei.
Yeah, when I arrived last march, I was surprised that the immigration line in the airport is not that long. Convenient for me because the line is fast, but it tells you that not much tourists are coming into the country.
I don't think the Taiwanese government is too concerned about tourism as a source of income. It's sad because Taiwan really is such a beautiful place. There may even be a deeper root problem in that a lot of Taiwanese people think that Taiwan has very little to offer tourists (except the Chinese variety who they typically just milk for cash, but don't really bother as to whether or not they would want to return). My wife once booked us into a b&b in Taitung that predominantly marketed itself towards Chinese tourists and they put us in a room with a bunch of mattresses on the floor - not to mention that everyone had to share one bathroom... Atrocious! The next night we stayed somewhere else which offered far nicer amenities for the same price!
The main reason for me to move to Taiwan is to allow my 2 yo soon to study in local schools and learn Mandarim and also the local culture. I make my money from remote work, so I don’t need to work in Taiwan, just live there. Any recommendations?
you are so pretty!!!~~~~~I like your eyes!! so beautiful!! if you live in Kaohsiung ,is no humid weather as Taipei~~ and Kaohsiung have MRT and light rail transit, and also you can buy a motorcycle~ 歡迎來台灣!
❤❤❤❤❤❤ 1. You seem to be the heroine who came out of an Italian Renaissance painting.綺麗 ❤ 2. The sweltering gifts of the three months of summer are mangoes and passion fruits. God loves Taiwanese, so there are sweet and passion fruits. 3. The transportation environment in Taiwan was originally planned by the Japanese, and later designed by the Chinese. As you know, Chinese products are like that. In short, Taiwanese are also victims.
My life behind the scenes is a little hectic atm but thank you for reaching out. In this video I’m using a LUMIX camera I think or my Olympus OM-D (can’t remember which one!)
Me, too. Not only can't adapt many changes but also can't bear them any more in our home country🇹🇼😫. Such as inflation, ridiculous house price, greedy landlords, abusive bosses, high cost of living, low quality of life, pedestrian hell, air pollution, unbearable hot and humid Summer weather🌡, typhoons, earthquakes, non-stop military threatening from China🇨🇳... the list goes on and on.️ I'm out of here if possible.✈️
Hey Jen, I hope you are reading this. I came across your videos when I was looking for a day tour in Nantou destinations. I am there on honeymoon trip with my wife. We will be spending 2 days and 2 nights in Taichung. Therefore, I have 1 day in Taichung and 1 to travel around Nantou. After looking at your videos, I am pondering between visiting monster village and sun moon lake. Are you able to offer your views on which one I should go for? Will it be rushing if I go for the 2 destinations in a single day?
I haven’t been to sun moon lake sadly! I wish to go one day so I can’t exactly weight in. Monster village is small and can be toured in an hour. You could stop there on the way if you’re renting a car etc
