I found your channel the day I quit my 9-5 job a month ago 🙂 I currently pursue my dream to become a graphic designer and spend the days teaching myself. It's not easy and I have upps and downs but I keep reminding myself that I made the right choice, finally listening to my intuition. I highly recommend reading the alchemist and a New earth, these books were major part of the inspiration to take that desicion Sending love to everyone 💗
Love Eckhart Tolle! The power of now was really eye opening to me. The alchemist is still in my bucket list :) might be the right time to pick it up now that I’m also considering to quit my 9-5 and become a full time content creator and yoga teacher
I feel you!!! I have left my corporate job for 2 years now and doing minimal freelancing here and there. The anxiety will become less and less when we gain deeper appreciation of what wealth truly means to us, and it's such a personal journey :) I LOVE YOUR EDITING!
That’s such a great point. Everyone’s perception of risk and utility are different. It’s so important to cut out the noise and stay true to what makes you happy. Thank you for sharing, and thanks for being here!
I'm getting ready to relocate to Germany for school. The cost of living there is cheaper than where I currently live in the US, but my savings will be tight hahaha
I quit my job a few months ago and have come across your channel and found comfort in your videos. At the moment I'm not even sure if I want to stay in the industry that I spent the past few years working in, I'm just taking it one day at a time and really enjoying and embracing my creative side - knitting and crocheting.
I quit my job to stay at home with my kids and work on building a pottery business. It's slow going and I do rely on my partner as the main income for our family. But we are a team and my wife and I are on the same page. Your content is inspiring to see and how thoughtful you are about your lifestyle is a goal I have for myself. Thank you!
love this, as someone who just quit their job I would love to learn more about your creative process and how you came to realize that you want to make a business off of your passion projects. Thank you for the video and all that you do to make this corner of the internet a highlight in my week :)
Those looked like some dope Bahn Mis! I am 16 years older than you and am pursuing life outside of corp America. I've worked since I was a teenager. Enough is enough, this idea that you have to work until your mid-60s (or even later due to the economy) is vile, and it's inspiring to see people move away from this "life script".
Thank you for your sharing! It helps me know more about the living cost in China and the life style of a content creator. Love it and support you always❤❤
Wow.... so much cheaper living in the mainland. Food there is super affordable as well. I live in one of the most expensive places in the entire world atm. I also keep a record of all of my spending. On avg... I spend approx 1000HKD / month. My 80sq ft matchbox room alone ( no kitchen/ toilets/ windows ) cost a little over 3k hkd... but do get partial govn't subsidy due to health issues. So that, plus food, utilities... and everything comes up to around 1K hkd ( out of pocket ). Have to be EXTREMELY frugal to survive....
I had previously asked in another one of your videos how you were handling your finances after quitting your job because I wanted to know if you had other sources of income or savings assisting with reoccurring bills and/or debt. Of course I end up finding this video in my feed! Glad you were transparent on this because I kept seeing so many videos of people quitting their corp life to pursue a creative job but they never disclose how they're able to pay for these things when they don't have that constant income flow.
Love your videos. I miss Guangzhou, I lived there for 2 years, now I'm back home in Serbia, and last couple of weeks I am talking with my wife about going back to China. Hopefully I will convince her by the Chinese New Year 😂😂😂
I love your videos. As someone watching while working my corporate 9-5, 我真的很羡慕你呀!💖 As for thoughts on the digital nomad lifestyle, I feel like it has some negative connotations these days. Those are mostly because of people who have higher paying jobs and move to lower cost of living places to specifically take advantage of the resources, while not respecting the local community, culture, or laws. In some more popular destinations, the local communities have complained about rapid gentrification, cost of living going up too quickly, and disparity because of too much people coming into a small area that do not have all the resources to support the population. There has also been a couple of well known incidents that caused controversy online with certain individuals disrespecting local communities. But I feel like there has to be a way to be ethical and respectful and still do it if you have the right mindset.
Thanks so much for the insight! I hesitate to describe my lifestyle as truly "digital nomad", because I live China, and am considered a local. My friends in China who are from different parts of the world are very interested in the local culture and respectful of the laws (lovely ppl), however I can totally understand how a huge influx of digital nomads with higher purchasing powers would disrupt small local communities in detrimental ways...I'm an optimist and do agree that there has to be a way to do it ethically and respectfully!
i relate same as you, i quite my job 5 months ago. I just started my own youtube, i wanted to try out something different. Im kind of nerves but watching your youtube made me understand i am not alone on this. Thank you so much
The cost of living is crazy there 😭 In Australia, it costs around 150 AUD (~90USD) for my partner and I for GROCERIES ONLY per week. And that's at the minimum since usually we go over that. We're students so that's on the low end of what people spend here
Thats’s crazy!!! When I lived in the US it was almost impossible to walk out of the grocery store without spending 100 USD (and I used to go every week), but now I rarely spend more than 10 USD on a grocery trip…crazy to think about this massive difference!
@@superthevibe this came across kind of rude. "it's not hard to buy things only when on sale or clearance". Yet we're in a cost of living crisis. Yes, it is hard. We only buy from Aldi or homebrand and always at the lowest unit cost. There's not always food on clearance at our supermarket and if there is, it goes bad quickly. We rarely eat out bcus it's so expensive so we're buying enough food for 7 days of food. We don't have time to go to the supermarket every day to look for clearance. We also have two cats to buy litter and food for (which is part of that cost). It all adds up. Everyone's different. $150 - $170 (what we spend) is not "really high". It's very average for our area. Your spending would be on the low end considering the average household spends $170+ per week. Even at $100-$150, the costs she described in the video are absolutely significantly lower. Spending only a few dollars on eating out and only 10 USD at the grocery store is unheard of here.
@@superthevibe Depends on where you are... I was recently in Brisbane and was in awe at how much cheaper CBD groceries and cafes were compared to on the west coast.
I really like the content you upload and your decision seems very brave to me. For a few years now I have been saving money to quit, but I don't have a clear goal like yours. For now, I will continue working and saving, in case the opportunity presents itself (or if I have a great idea) Good luck and I believe you will achieve your goal, your content is very good and enjoyable ☺️💜
It's funny to see this video in my recommendations. I quit my job as a consultant at 29 yo too, I used my savings to take a break after a burn out. I'm currently studying to get a certification before I go back to a corporate job, but i'm enjoying the slow pace right now and I've traveled a bit! Living stress free FEELS GREAT. I'm loving it.
I quit my last job because I want to pursue my dream profession in aviation and I badly want a long break that's why I take the risk. Right now, I'm officially unemployed for 5 months. Still waiting for my job call and better opportunity. I don't like hanging out I'm always stay at home. I feel burden and doubting myself if I choose the right decision but yeah everything happen for a reason. C'est lavie!
I’m also hoping to quit my job and become a full time content creator in the future! I’m currently studying while working part time - your video is so inspiring, keep up the good work!
Hey Evelyn! fan from Singapore, like yourself I've quit my tech job and started building a startup living off my savings. Thanks for this inspirational content, cheers!
I am all for digital nomads, but there are some things to consider. If a person is moving say from the US to Mexico to cut their cost of living, I thinks it valid but there tenda to be a sense of superiority from the foreigneres going to these cheaper places. I think it is important to consider the amount of time spent in a new place and how a foreigner can contribute to the community there - say if staying a year pay the local taxes (if staying a month I think its fine). And make sure they are respecting the culture, people, ans undestand their privilege and that eventhough for them its cheap for some of the local people it is still expensive. I know you are Chinese so I dont think rhis applies to you but just some thoughts.
Content creation looks so rewarding and love seeing you get creative but the only thing that scares me is the loneliness. I don't like my current 9-5 but I enjoy going in and meeting everyone in the office, that's the only thing that I like and would hate to miss out on. Do you feel loneliness or boredom?
I feel you! It gets tough when you are at home all day every day, just yourself and the computer. I have been trying to get out of the house once a day, and it really helps! In the mean time I'm trying to make more friends in the city...it's so hard trying to not fill every moment with productivity when I feel so much pressure to make my own career work, but it's so important to make time for friendships!
I love this video. I am in corporate now and would love a second, more chill/creative/hands-on career change someday. Thank you for your transparency & love your editing!
Yes, I want to live like this, but I'm too scared because I have lots of fixed expense even I live in Thailand which is cheaper than China. I'm happy for you that you can live the way you want to
just got laid off this May and have not accepted a new job since. currently my day-to-day life, other than applying for a new job, I reconnect to doing things I love. living on my compensation and savings, but it's starting to eat me mentally. tbh, I'm scared, with today's job industry, I can't even get a job at all... even if I have savings, if I don't get a stable income, the savings will not save me anymore :( I'm just turning 25 this month, btw..
there's a carefree, cozy, quirky energy to your videos (this is a compliment!) that i truly enjoy. also, please explain a Lao coffee, it looked so good! :) also also, speaking of money books, you might enjoy I Will Teach You To Be Rich by Ramit Sethi
I love how realistic this vlog is, Evelyn! Whenever I travel alone locally, people would ask me who financed my travel and if I already have a boyfriend (I'm very single 🤭), because I was able to travel. 🥲 They don't know how much planning, saving, and a bit of sacrificing I did just to make the travel happen. I'd love to be provided for by a man but I'm also self-sufficient. So to that person who commented on your vlog about having a rich daddy/bf, he/she needs to realize that it's the modern times, and women can be self-sufficient. ❤
Thanks so much for sharing! I feel the need to call those people out because hearing sexist comments thrown out into the world without being challenged makes little girls feel like this is how it should be. No, it shouldn't be the norm that when women quit their jobs or travel alone that the assumption is they are funded by the men in their lives. Let's please start assuming that women are self sufficient💪
Another great video ❤ I thought it could improve if you made the expenses more visible though! I was watching from my phone but only saw (clearly) the price of one of the veggies and the price recap at the end of the video. 加油🎉
I was just gonna say - you remind me so much of bestdressed… I’ve missed her so much i feel like her channel is revived when i watch yours 🥹. Look forward for ur videos❤❤
I’m 28, I left my job due to chronic pain, because work comp kept delaying treatment, and even now feeling like it’s a dead end. I guess i have somewhat of a sugar husband haha since he pays the bills, and I use my savings to buy extra things. Still feels kinda lame to be unemployed especially feeling like I wasted going to college, but will try to enjoy it more like you. Don’t even have kids so feel guilty for being at home so I just do hella chores. Thank you for your video
I've never enjoyed youtube so much until i discovered ur channel! After watching just one video of u (shanghai 24h vlog), i quickly fell in love with your aesthetics and positive energy ❤ it's now 1:30am and i'll have to binge watch ur other videos next time, hope u continue this for a long time and achieve your dreams 💪🏽
Love the video! Little tip maybe keep the expense tracker on the screen an extra few seconds, I often couldn’t read anything, it disappeared too quickly 😅
Holy cow what a mean comment that started this. I’m sorry that was directed at you. I’ve recently found your channel and appreciated your journey that I’m about to embark on myself.
Love youuuuu! Love your videos! Your channel has been a blessing to me since I found it (thanks RU-vid algorithm 🎉 for that). Sending you kisses from Brazil 🇧🇷
I do not read Chinese so I never know what to do with the laundry detergent and fabric softener. I am just guessing which of the three holes of the washer they go in, but it seems you just throw it all in together. Maybe I should try it that way! lol. It is all going in eventually anyways, I guess.
I don't know what is about you but I just came across your channel today and there's something about it I just love. I think you're going to have some really wonderful success coming your way soon❤
HaHa, new product line . . ."Beverage in a bag, it's not just for alcoholics". Lessons learned from Evelyn . . . Do the work early, so there is more to enjoy while in this place. If something goes wrong, just say, "That didn't happen," 😂 and in life (or Costco), your capacity to carry must be limited. You're the best, Evelyn!
Excellent video! I love the food you make, it always looks so delicious. I'll be back in Shenyang next week, are you planning on making a trip back there anytime soon? Keep up the great content!
omg! I'm the same age and my name is Evelyn too xD. and your content is very interesting! I'm also planning on quitting my job soon so this video helped a lot~
My dream is to be loved and love . That’s it. Unfortunately quitting my job won’t change it so…. I just do what I have to to pay my bills because when my fiancé died I had no work, no money, lost my love, have no family, no savings, no money for food or medicines I should take for my illnesses and I don’t want to be in that situation ever again 😢
Love these spending in a week / month, etc, vids. You get to see what's it's like in different cities/countries/cultures of the world. Bonus with a cute articulate lady explaining it all.
i'm thinking aboout becoming a digital nomad, I was in the process of looking for things to know before pursuing the path when I stumbled across this video. Also, you'd think that coffee in a bag is something you'd easily think about but its not. I definitely want to try that lol.
Not sugar daddy?😂 anyway, gonna watch this while I crochet b/c I know it's cozy Edit: so sweet to see BestDressed🙈 also, the editing here is so cohesive and pretty and thank you for all the details💚
hey tapiocapress! I am on a LOA, leave of absence, yes unpaid* from my company after a traumatic life event. I've learned so much, I've read, and truly have enjoyed deciding to move to an island. *cue Miley Cyrus inspo. It's been almost two months but I just found your channel, and I've already found your Instagram after a few minutes into your story. Sending you light and love during your journey. Following along with your video with intense mindful learning I adore your aesthetic!!
yay another video! I can't wait for the kitchen makeover.. i have veryyyy similar kitchen cabinents in my older apartment here in China and have thought alot about recovering them.. please video it and show us the end result! Always debating buying that wallpaper on taobao!
You are sooo speaking my language. As someone who studied accounting LOL Am looking to move to Thailand myself and create my own business there. So I love this series of yours
Love the vibes. Just curious, how many books do you go though a month? Seems like you talk more about the ideas from non-fiction books yet you seem to always have fiction in hand so curious how you think about that intersection on what to read
Thanks for the great questions! I’m actually a slow reader (that’s why even though I love books I can never be a booktuber), and go through 3-4 books a month - bear in mind that I don’t work on a job now so that gives me loads of extra time to read. I love reading fiction for fun, but read non-fiction when I’m really curious about something (usually behavioral economics), or want to learn about a particular topic. And I pick books to read based on “what I want to read the most at the moment”, otherwise I would have a hard time finishing it…
@@tapiocapressah you have such a healthy relationship with reading 😅😅 I grew up reading to learn so I might be missing part the part of my brain where I can concentrate and enjoy it!
