Hi, that was a great video but I also kind of think it might make New York look a bit expensive for some potential holiday goers. But it was awesome and I always admire your high quality videos
It’s a waste of money. Us who live here don’t go to skyscrapers to take pictures of the city. If you want to see the real New York head into Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
As a New Yorker, my jaw dropped when she says she spent $1750 in rent for a WEEK. Girl. Go uptown. That amount or less should be your rent for the entire month!!
Those are the only costs to never regret in your life. As long as you enjoy your life and when you close your eyes only good memories comes up. Travel and enjoy your self. Your content pops and you found yourself in New York. New York suits you so make the big step and try to live for at least a year. Sooooo many things that you made. In LA never so you out enjoying yourself with friends. Keep going! All the best for the new Year and we miss Monica.
I loved this! I think it’s great that it was realistic and you should absolutely do some fun things if you’re only there for a limited time 😊 I lived in New York for three years. My monthly rent was actually around $1750 the whole time! You can find more affordable options when you give up views, amenities, proximity to subway stations, etc. New York is a wonderful place to visit and live! Highly recommend!
New Yorker here: 99 cent pizza still exists and I argue is the best because of the price lol (Joes is yummy but not true 99cent pizza). But I found this video so fascinating because when you live here for a while/whole life you don't do all the lavish fun tourist things and I genuinely forget how expensive it can be until people come visit. Overall love the NYC content and would love to see you live in other places across the US/World for comparison/to learn about potential places to move in the future!!
question - why did you choose to spend money on co-working space? Why not work at home? Is it cuz you focus better outside your home? $150 a month = $1800 a year.
you're so smart doing these types of videos, because no matter how much you spend and whatever you spend your money on, it can all be written off for your business. perks of being a lifestyle content creator!
Shelby! Your videos are just next level. Editing is 100/10. Thank you for blessing me with with a stellar video for my lunch break. Highlight of my day as always! ❤️
Honestly, in my time in New York, I’ve found great places with cheap prices. Like 8.00 amazing ramen places. Just remember, expensive does not always ensure quality.
First time viewing one of your videos. I've lived in NYC all my life and your video helped me remember how fun and beautiful the city is. I haven't been on the ferry in years. Now I want to go again. Your video and camera shots were fantastic.
Honestly I lived here all my life too. There's ALOT of good views for the first timer but it gets bored afterwards. You need to go out of state to see an actual view
I’m planning to go NYC next year Shelby! Haven’t been on vacation for 12 years so hopefully it’s a good change, hope you enjoyed your stay in New York! Always always enjoy tuning into your vlogs 😇
Solid cost overview of an upper middle class life in lower manhattan NYC. You can definately trim it down to $1500/week and still live quite well in Manhattan (in a nice neighborhood).
I agree! I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life but I’m moving to Dallas in a couple weeks. Winters are brutal but I personally think you can’t beat our summer sunsets.😍 There’s also a lot to do year round!
Honestly, for the amount of videos you make on both of your channels it realy does make sense to pay for convenience plus most of it is business expenses.
I also love how strategic you are with uploading two financial videos in December when the CPM is good instead of the other content you have filmed in NYC.
Sometimes the little things you want are part of your self care. They can 100% turn into excessive spending if we aren’t careful and it’s important to remember that the ability to enjoy your life can cost a little extra scratch. I’m a big fan of your adventure across the country and it’s amazing that you are able to take a month and just explore.
You’re a master a making engaging videos, I’m a new youtuber learning so much especially how great your storytelling through video is! 🙌🏽🙌🏽 Graham Stephan has added a lot more spending guilt in you lol you justified every expense hahaha 🤣
😂🤣😂... you don't know Shelby very well! She's never been a low rent cheap skate any means. Shelby enjoys a classy comfortable lifestyle. When you are single and earning $150K you don't have to survive. You can live well.
Adorable video and you really makes me happy. In this upload the beauty from the icons is powerful, this place looks awesome. Thanks for sharing and hope you have an amazing new year!!!
@@missmarianocas You mean places for a good NYC slice? Mama's Too, Joe's. Scarr's, Di Fara, Prince St Pizza. For pizza not by the slice my favorite is Lombardi's.
Curious to know why you chose to rent in the financial district? Central location for sure but with the subway you could’ve found somewhere in a neighborhood? I find neighborhoods are awesome to get a vibe
I lived in NYC for a year in the east village and couldn't save ANYTHING. the overall cost of living is way higher there (rent, food, Ubers/taxis, drinks, restaurants etc). it was so much fun but definitely not the best for me financially. I moved back to LA and have been able to save so much more money.
Joe's Pizza isn't a dollar pizza place - it's on the pricier side for the relatively small size. I think you're confusing it with Joey Pepperoni. Though Joe's is good quality.
Graham Stephan is going to go to town on this eating out spending lol. Also New York is just so expensive!! The rent, the gym membership... I don't live somewhere like this so I just can't get my head around it! 🙃
San Francisco and NYC are definitely similar in how much things cost. Cocktails usually go for 15.00 here in SF (pre-pandemic) in certain neighborhoods anyway...so $11.00 smoothie is normal and lasts longer than a cocktail! But it depends where I am...I wouldn't pay 11.00 for smoothie if I lived in a suburb or small town.
@@mallorygraf8574 I don't know what it is with cocktails but they are expensive literally anywhere. They are anywhere between £7-10 where I live which would be around $10-14. Although you could frequently get deals on them
Hi Shelby, what a great video, very enlightening to see how expensive NYC is for someone who meticulously plans their day, and it is so expensive to rent, on par with London prices.
I was wondering how you manage to edit those vlogs so fast. Maybe this is the first time that you mentioned you have an editor, which ofc makes perfect sense :) I think I could manage in NY with everything else except the living cost.
She just recently got an editor for her vlogs, annemariechase did help her out on a couple videos before this but thats it. Still most channels this size have full on teems helping them out its crazy how much she gets done.
I'm feeling so ieeeee watching this because your spending habit is the opposite of mine. I order pizza for 12 euros every two weeks and it makes me think it is expensive lol :D
I'm so excited for this video! I'm curious shelby... where do you think the smartest place to buy an investment property would be out of LA, Seattle, and NYC?
This video intro shot you captured from your hotel room is just Epic Amazing Sunset down below the City of NY like from a movie , Good Job I'm totally impressed .
I love seeing versions like this that are actually honest. I have seen some versions where influencers are in NYC and get nervous about mentioning a $3 coffee. If you have the money, why not?
You are absolutely fabulous! I like NYC much better than LA personally. Even though the weather isn't as nice in NYC, I find NYC much cheaper because you save a lot on car payments, gas, insurance, tickets, parking, accidents, etc. Exactly what you say.
All those takeaway prices were really extortionate and look similar to whats charged in the rich parts of London (Knightsbridge/Kensington/Chelsea), its also likely people more experienced living in New York know the more affordable places to eat that are still high quality.
