Nice tools Scott, i have pretty much the same. Just can’t go wrong with Makita. I had alot of Milwaukee in the past but i stopt buying them as they gave me quiet a few problems. I have never had one Makita tool that broke down on me, so every time i need a new tool...it’s Makita for me. Love the convenience of cordless but as a diy guy my tools last for years. Most of my corded tools are 20 plus years old. Finding a replacement battery in 20 years for all the cordless tools people are buying these days is gonna be a challenge. I have a awesome drill driver set from Makita I bought in 1999 with ni-cad batteries. A replacement battery for those 23 year old drills is over $350 each for a 14.4 volt battery. There are battery adapters so you can use dewalt batteries on a Makita and so on. So I guess that could resurrect your old tools in the future. I have yet to find one of those for my Makitas tho.
Here in France, top 3 brands available: Festool, Hilti, Makita ... probably worldwide too tbh. Festool just really is awesome, Hilti is the next option, then Makita because it's excellent with great ergo's and typically costs a fraction of the price the other two do. Festool inter-compatibility is also one of the main reasons you'd switch to the system, Hilti's lasers are just the best I've ever used (and jackhammers).
here in the Netherlands its about the same. Bosch and dewalt are big players to. but Festool is for cabinet builders/woordworkers. Hilti for the heavy duty stuff like concrete guys. Makita in most builders, maitners and service guys use those. Metal industrie seems to have more Bosch. De Walt is also typical builders site tools.
I've never seen a 9 and 1/4 saw ? From Makita I guess I'll have to look that up, and I have owned every saw they made but one 13 inch but used them a lot for dive cuts .
Makita apparently isn't owned by a giant shadowy mega parent corp; it's just Makita. I love them for that reason alone but thankfully they make solid tools aswell!

The brushless Maktia impact driver is an absolute beast. It's small and lightweight but extremely powerful. It's actually logic defying how good it is! So yeah, I agree with your 'review' of it :-D
Sawzall was actually Milwaukee’s trademark name for there reciprocating saw. They were the only one who made one years ago. It just became the common name for all of them like Bandaid (adhesive bandage) Vaseline (Petroleum jelly), Qtip (cotton swab),

@@michaelfink64 Especially the blade of an electric plane. I made the mistake of being distracted before the blade had come to a standstill after turning it off. It can chew up a finger very badly.

Hey, mate, I noticed, you have difficulty opening and closing locks on makita systainer boxes. I use silicon spray (commonly used for car rubber sealing softening) to lubricated them. Makes them slide as silk. Take care. Great videos by the way, enjoying them.
you know painters will hate you for using silicon spray and then touching surfaces right? That stuff requires them to use special cleaners which they find out after the first layer looks horrendous

You know that you don't have enough tools when your tools still fit in cases. I swear to God I couldn't fit another screwdriver in my truck. And if I had to add cases ... LOL.
Scott On the track saw makita or festool !!?? Honestly mate as an owner of both as a skilled carpenter your missing nothing the makita is just as good as the festool and like you said $400 cheaper!!!! No brainer!! Yes there are differences like you mentioned dust extraction ...I would say festool are always a leader on that for sure and adjustment better with the festool on most tools so of a doing furniture etc worth the extra $$$ just remember all tools can be great or rubish depending on who is wielding them !!!

I am a big dewalt fan due mainly to nostalgia but I will always be honest about tools and own festool makita dewalt bosch hitachi ( now hikoki) Milwaukee as well as some home brands such as titan erbauer etc they all have their place and use ! Dewalt have so many levels of quality and no obvious defining characteristics makita blue white etc etc etc it's no wonder we get mistaken from time to time ! Had to climb into an old ceiling, where a high ceiling had been lowered, but the old timber wall panels in the ceiling were still attached. I had to knock some of them out to put in an extraction fan, but all the reciprocating saws were too big and would've gone through the wall on the other side. Until one of the builders pulls out his little 12 volt one, and not only is it cute, but freaking handy especially in tight crawl spaces!
Makita is great, it'll get the job done and its RELIABLE.. but the little extra you pay for DEWALT generally gives you more torque/RPM, Quick release on the Multi tool blade, LED lights on most tools and BATTERY METERS on ALL BATTERIES! Honestly its thought out a little more and the Toughsystem boxes are like Peli-cases for your tools with organised storage for bits! Compare dewalt on paper and they win most spec offs with their top end tools and 3 year guarantee! also NO GAS NAIL GUNS!! (I expect some hate, DEWALT fanboy here)
Have you ever thought about putting a mini solar panel on the roof of your van or in the window to keep your batteries charged all the time? 🤔 You might already do..... It's inexpensive and free, ish Great videos keep it up 💪
Love Makita tools but they don't seem as popular around where I live. The belt sander is like an industry standard in cabinet shops! It's like the Dewalt "drop" saw
Something I just found out about the Makita hard cases recently totally blew my mind. That is that a lot of the individual cordless tool hard cases have a hidden storage compartment in the upper lid of the case. You can pull up the skin of the upper case (the side with the Makita logo) and inside that half of the case there's a secret compartment for drill bits and whatnot. I've had my Makita drill for over 6 years now and just found this out the other day and my brain melted.
So true. I got a Dewalt drill to start out when I was 17 as a birthday gift from my dad. 9 years later and all I have is Dewalt tools and I often look longingly at other brands, but I just will never be able to afford to leave lol.
Red LEGO’s over here. I was looking to upgrade my tools, & team Red, had, & still has a tool rep on staff in my local store. (Shoutout to Tyler!) Honest & informative, so I walked down that path. If Makita had their tool semi truck, in the parking lot that day I might have chosen a different path. I was told Makita has the largest tool platform. Quality construction, a great work ethic, & the right tool for job, be it Blue, Red, Yellow, or Green, says a lot about who you are. SBC - keep the videos coming!
Only problem I've had with makita is the 6ah batteries. I took them back 3 times and then gave up on them. Went back to the 5ah. The problem is the contact springs, the 6ah has double the contact springs of the 5ah in the same space, they just bend/wear too easily. Other than that, they are epic tool manufacturers. Cost/quality ratio is on point.
Theft solution: aerosol each in disgusting neons and color combinations with plastic compatible paints . Old painter I met 30 years ago said “ I make all my new equipment look odd and nasty as soon as o get them ! Makes them virtually theft proof !”
I run Dewalt 18v cordless for their power, Makita corded for the reliability and Bosch Professional 12v for compact stuff. Never had an issue with any! It's hard to find tools from main brands that are bad, and sticking to one brand can mean you miss out on great features from other companies!
Hello from Canada! I've been in commercial construction for over 30 years. Great video! I have almost all those tools. About the cordless "SDS" hammer drill, they just don't last and I'll tell you why. One of our company's main tools used is the corded sds hammer drill, lots of power all the time. I bought this hammer drill for myself on the jobsite. The freedom of no cord setup was the key to productivity, or so I thought. I was happly with the performance of the drill and have plenty of batteries to keep it going. The problem started when I lent it out to some trusted co-workers on site. They were working in an area where they would have to frequently setup over 200' electrical cords multipule times in the working shift. I lent them the drill for a few weeks, until that task was completed. When I looked for the drill afterwards, I couldn't find it. It was a large site, so when I called them inquiring about the drill, they started chuckling over the phone. They had been moved to another site and took the drill with them. So you see... on the jobsite, they just don't last! I did get the drill back no worse for wear, but that's what you have to be prepared for when you own tools other people envy.
All good my friend they are pricey with batteries and what not but so worth it and in the long run you will save money and have tools that make life eaier
Al those cordless battery powered are handy but will they still work in 10 years or so when the batteries are dead and the X Volt battery systems have changed? I have a few but really try to keep them to a minimum cause I have sincere doubts about their longevity in terms of battery.
BXL BXL personally i cannot stand corded tools compared to cordless. The only times i have used corded tools(sparky) is drilling massive bore holes in concrete or when i didnt have access to a cordless SDS
Everyone has their favorite, mine is Makita, went through 3 or 4 brands when I was starting on my own 15 or so years ago, didnt care for any except Makita. Batteries last a long time, at least 3 years of hard every day use. I have a ridiculous amount of the cordless tools and batteries and really no complaints.

The new adjustable 125mm grinder looks amazing - can adjust the RPM slower for polishing, or speed up for cutting. Plus it’s brushless... that’ll be my next purchase.
I’ll say it: you kind of have to go with Makita for the cool logo and the teal colour. I don’t even particularly like teal, but it’s a decent, old-timey, nostalgic and - most importantly - relatively quiet colour well suited for tools. Bright yellow or red? No, thanks. As for the quality: here in Germany, everybody will tell you to go for Festool if you have the cash, and if you don’t, they all recommend Bosch blue or Makita, with no clear favourite. Lots of Makita fans even here in the region, in close proximity to both Bosch and Festool headquarters. Says it all.
I was always told you only buy festool if turning a profit not for hobby. Unless you've got lots of money. I'm in Canada but all my corded at home is Bosch and cordless is Makita. But at work we pretty much use exclusively Milwaukee. But when it comes to the stuff we're using they currently are the best on the market. With some tools way better than other brands. 8 years ago they were mediocre.
I have that same plunge router and it’s a BEAST! I also got it for free, haha! Use it nearly every other day as a kitchen installer. Love your channel, and thanks for sharing your craft and making top quality videos!!
I’m just a hobbyist at this point , but I think my wife has caught on. She’s started noticing far more Makita teal than was around before. I may have to start buying some of the Japanese models that come in different colors!
Makita tools are solid and dependable and I own lots of them especially the cordless tools. The Macpac storage system has been a disaster, terrible design. I have some Bosch tools as well and the L-boxx system is miles better. I'm i n the process of standardizing my storage, Bosch L-boxx's for everything from now on.
TheToolnut I totally agree, I went out and got 10 of them when they came out. I gently gave them away over 12 months. It helped with the pain of the purchase. I have sortimo cases for fixings but recently went out and got Bunnings tactix.ill use both. Dedication to one brand is colour blindness.
Thanks Scott another great episode. I have been a Makita fan since I think 1992 when I bought their first cordless drill, which is still working today. Glad to see you are trying out the rear handle skillsaw, it is a beast and likely on the heavy side for a lot of your finish work, but for framing it rocks. I actually just bought a 2nd one so I can keep one at my sheet goods cutting station plus have one with me while I am framing. One tool I have thought you should get is the drywall screwgun. Having the depth control is awesome for much more than drywall, any time you are sinking screws into a soft material. I recently built a set of 18 shutters for a house renovation and the screwgun let me sink perfect screws into the soft cedar I was using. Keep up the great work.
Over here in Southern California makita does a innovation tour like every 3 months we’re they give out batteries like hotcakes. I got the 36v blower with 6 5.0 ah batteries and double charger for $350. Thanks to that tour i was able to go cordless within one year of starting construction.
Sad to say that the plastic in the makpacs is nothing like the Festool Systainers (Made by Tanos). The makpac is brittle and the “snaplocks” are hard to close.
I'm a bit of a makita fanboy, though everything I have is corded. Wish they made separate cords like 3-4 meters long which you could attach to tools. I should prob start looking at going for a full battery system...
Nothing much wrong with having corded tools. The problems start when you get your first handy cordless one, then the next,then the next. The more cordless you go the more a pain in the arse the corded ones are.
I started watching your channel when I was researching which cordless line to get into for my new shop. I already had some Makita tools and liked what they offered for the price. Don't have as many as you but just a home hobbyist. I do enjoy your videos.
Great video! I'm a DeWalt 20v fan myself but I like Makitas for the price. They're definitely underrated on the worksite where I'm from, just DeWalt and Milwaukee here mostly.

When makita changed to the 40v platform I knew my huge cordless makita collection would sooner or later be obsolete. I now have the hikoki multi volt future platform and it’s great
There is 1 Makita tool which is total junk and waste of money. Makita has a "laser" on 3xAAA batteries you should never buy and you will regret it. A client of mine had the laser and the battery lid was broken and he used a rope to get the lid on place. I bought the laser and i filled in with the batteries just to see how it works and put it away. A friend of mine also had the laser and his lid was also broken off. To my surprise when i had to use my laser for the first time the lid was broken off in the case. There is way too much pressure on the lid due to the batteries and the lid has 2 tiny plastic pins which breaks easily. My lid was broken off even when i never used it. Most Makita tools are pretty good and some even outstanding... but their laser is ridiculous and is nothing more than a toy.
I started with Makita here in the states. One by one the tool would break or the batteries would stop taking a charge. So I switched to DeWalt and haven't had those issues. It's a shame because I like Makita.
I've had Makita for 3 years just recently started working my batteries really hard with my lawn mower. No issues with batteries. Wintertime though, if you discharge it and leave in the van then try charging it may stop working. The trick is to warm it up on the radiator and it'll start charging again. Good luck with the DeWalt.
@@ackec-umsekkruch-ekucki952 that's the thing I never leave my batteries in the van overnight when it's winter. I'm not knocking Makita, I like Makita, I just had bad luck. To me you can't go wrong with DeWalt, Makita, and Milwaukee.
I think the batteries are better now. I havent had one fail for a few years now. It does give you the shits when you go to charge and you get the fail light on.
I have almost nothing but Makita as well. I started with the 18 volt Li-Ion 4 piece kit 10 years & have stuck with it ever since. I've very rarely been disappointed by Makita cordless. The 2 cases that were VERY disappointing were the very early model of the 36volt right blade 7 1/4 circ saw & the 4" 18volt cordless grinder.
Nice ,it pays to stick with one platform, I changed all my tools to Bosch about 4 years ago,not one has let me down ,I like the fact they made the cordless circular saw so it fits in the bosch or retool guide rail . I've got the 36v bosch sds, which is a real beast ,always use it for cutting in electrical boxes. Only dealt things I have is the t stack dab radio ,which is brilliant and a couple of flashlights . Apart from those ,everything is Bosch, only corded peice is the plunge saw .
Aaron Hinton Can be amazing for drywall as a well as decks, furniture, framing. Gets a nice even finish too if you install exposed plywood! I guess it depends on how much you do the kind of work that would help if you used a screw gun. I’m waiting for a new makita tool lol
i just realized that there are a allot of german tool making companies famous for one specific tool. Multitool (invented by Fein) , track saw (Festool), Chainsaw (Stiehl), Anglegrinder (invented by Flex). That's only what comes to my mind at the moment, Bosh isn't in the list lol. Ok I am back to extend the list: Biscuit joiner (invented by Lamello, Switzerland)

Just replaced my 2007 vintage 18v reciprocating saw with a brushless 36… Poor old standby just seized up solid. To be fair, I’d been using it to cut 30mm thick rubber conveyor belting with 5mm braided steel cable throughout it, and it *might* have heated up a bit before I was done...
I made the wrong decision getting into Ryobi and I should have gone for Makita. That's the statement, now I'll back it up. Let's start with a circular saw. First thing you will notice when buying a Circular saw from Ryobi, is it will come with a rough cut blade (24 teeth). Ryobi only make one circular saw blade. It's a 184x16 blade with 24 teeth. That's it. To solve this, I would have to buy a blade from Bosch or some other manufacturer which dabbles in this quirky size. Makita have a range of blades which rival much of the competition. They offer some fine finish blades (80 teeth) that are specifically designed for their cordless saws. Next is the trim router. Firstly Ryobi only make a cordless trim router. It's a 1/4 inch in the US and a 6mm diameter in Europe (and possibly in NZ). Anyone who knows something about routers knows this is possibly the worst size shank. Extremely limiting in terms of what bits you can find for it. But heh, this is an argument against Ryobi, so let me expand on this. The US 1/4 inch version IS NOT the same as the EU 6mm version. The bits are not interchangeable. This is why in the US you can find a 24 piece 1/4 inch set while in Europe you can only find a 5 piece 6mm set. It also means that this tool will not accept 1/4 inch, if it's the 6mm version and vice versa. Now on the other hand the Makita cordless router accepts both 6mm and 8mm. Once you're in 8mm territory everything starts looking better. Next let's talk about the batteries. Ryobi has no tool that uses batteries in series. Makita does. This means 2 batteries in series will give you very close to corded power. The reason for this is that Ryobi has kept a legacy battery shape to keep their existing users happy. While that is noble, battery technology has changed considerably since Ryobi started making power tools and what you're left with is a huge battery compared to other manufacturers. I hope this helps someone who is considering Ryobi one+. I bought into this battery line and yes the tools will last, they'll last very long, but they'll always be just that little bit limiting.
You should really take the step up to the big boys like "Parkside". but it's mainly here in Europe. We previously used Hitachi and Milwaukee, and DeWalt, and also often Festtool and was sponsored by these brands. Then Metabo corp. here in Denmark reached out, and asked if we wanted to carry their line, I was like meehh, as me and my girl had just a few weeks earlier been in a LIDL store and saw the brand Parkside and their powertools. anyway, all the previous tool I had was then thrown out, and I went full-fledge Parkside and I haven't looked back since.. (// notice' please don't pop my feel-good-make-believe ballon about my new budget brand :-P )
TA of Makita 牧田 is the same character as TA of Toyota 豊田 and DA of Honda 本田. 田 meaning farmland or field. also, Ryo of Ryobi 菱備 is the same character as bishi of Mitsubishi 三菱. 菱 is a species of plant which has rhombus shaped leaves, thus it also mean rhombus shape.
Sawzall is just a name they get called but is really a brand. The Milwaukee branded ones are called sawzall. But here in North America any reciprocating saw gets called sawzall I have all Makita at home. But company I work for provides Milwaukee tools. I will say now days it seems Milwaukee is better. But then again I haven't bought new Makita stuff in probably 6 years except recently the battery powered chainsaw. But the Milwaukee stuff we use tends to be better. The rotary hammer drill sds I have vs the Milwaukee at work. Milwaukee I find slightly better. Both are great tools but the one place I will say Milwaukee out shines everyone else is the portable band saw. And they make a lot of trade specific tools.
Highly recommend the cordless grinder. Got it in a kit, and it has quickly become one of my favorite tools. Cutting metal, cutting tile, sanding chipping paint off a steel box gutter with a flap disc, or sharpening up scrapers or cleaning off rusty tools. You won’t regret getting it.
The name Sawzall is the trademark Milwaukee name for the saber saw, because they invented the saber saw... It's like calling a circular saw a "skil saw"... They invented it so the type of tool is often called by its trademark name, even though the only true "Sawzall" are the Milwaukee versions.
Great video. Which Hand held circular saw is best for making cross cuts in timber. I also need to excavate mortise cross joints 2 inches deep into 4x4 inch timber. An6 good advice on which circular saw is best for the trench work please ? Thank you.
