I love “The Thing” for how ambiguous it is. We don’t know the exact order of how or when they become infected, and the ending leaves the viewer with so many questions.
I love that malignant brought back the self aware cheesiness. So many people think it wasn’t on purpose and it’s horrible but idk I think it was done on purpose. It’s similar to Aquaman, where Wan just makes a fun time, even if it’s a little stupid. I loved it
I actually don’t even understand how people think it’s NOT purposefully cheesy and campy. Like everyone knows James Wan can direct. we’ve seen very serious and (in my opinion) usually very good horror movies by him. I’d say even if you’ve literally only ever seen saw or the conjuring, then someone watching malignant should still be able to tell the difference in.. well… everything-directing, acting, dialogue, cinematography. it feels so obvious to me idk especially if you’ve seen literally anything by Wan before
For me, it's not because it's on purpose that it makes it good. Maybe the fact that I was waiting for a serious horror movie or just the name James Wan leads me in the wrong direction. But I've already seen movies from directors who went to the opposite of their expected genre and made movies I enjoyed. Sooo I still don't understand why it didn't work for me. Maybe it's so random and weird that nobody will ever agree on what they feel about this movie and it's good, we need movies like that. Even though I personally was holding back from leaving the theater 😂
Wow surprised you didn't like The Suicide Squad, cause there was A LOT of good things and the first movie kinda sucked in comparison, but I'm glad you have a different perspective then most
OH NOOOOOOOO!!! I have two girlfriends, but very few people on YT are happy for my relationship success. They disl*ke all of the videos I make with my 2 girlfriends. Please be kind, dear abe
I saw the Lord of the Rings trilogy on the big screen. Had some disruptive audience members for Fellowship, but for the rest me and my mum had the screening to ourselves, which was glorious! The scope of the battle scenes a cinema screen was truly something to behold, for the three of you that care!
This September I saw: - Dune (two times on the big screen) - Deep Impact - LOTR (Extended) - Sleepy Hollow and - Coming to America (for like the 10th time but I want to watch the new Sequel soon)
yes pleeeease I would love to see an over the garden wall video. one of the best pieces of media to have come out in the past decade imo. it can be so subtle and charming and I have watched this series a good 20 times and I find new details every single time I watch.
"The Mummy" was always my favorite Adventure movie as a kid. Me and my older brother would watch it at least once a month for like... 3 or so years. Even returning to it today, it is still a total blast.
I've only watched the third man once, someone who died recently recommended it last year and the cinematography amazed me, a really good entry into classic BW cinema
Man, I loved Malignant all the way through. Dude made a perfect Giallo/Troma hybrid film. I felt like I was watching some crazy early 90s USA Up All Night creature feature with a 100 million dollar budget while watching it. It's definitely a gift to people who loved renting campy b-movie horror films on VHS.
I watched a lot of stuff this month so here we go Citizen Kane: 8 Shang chi: 7 The father: 10 Trainspotting: 10 Synecdoche New York: ? Project almanac: 7 Rurouni Kenshin the beginning: 7 The mule: 6 Snatch: 7 Mysterious skin: 8 Goodfellas: 10 They live: 7 Once upon a time in Hollywood: 6 12 angry men: 9 Sex education s3: 7 Uncut gems: 6 The lighthouse: 8 Modern times: 7 A trip to the moon: N/A On the waterfront: 7 Rurouni Kenshin the final: 7
So glad you finally watched The Third Man, its so good. Also please make a video on Over The Garden Wall... I'm waiting till October to do my annual watch.
Karsten, what are your thoughts on the Mario Movie Cast? Chris Pratt as Mario Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach Charlie Day as Luigi Jack Black as Bowser Keegan-Michael Key as Toad Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek Fred Armisten as Cranky Kong Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike Charles Martinet as Surprise Cameos
for a man who chooses the flirt dialogue option 98% of the time, oscar isaac tends to have very little chemistry in his on screen romances. it's something i first noticed in 'drive' and again in 'a most violent year' and 'annihilation.' he's a great actor, which is why it's so puzzling.
Wow, you watching Josie and the Pussycats on the big screen with other people is like my dream come true. Not enough people know about this movie or talk about it. Hoping for a day the trend of 00's nostalgia brings in new viewers/commentators.
Please, PLEASE make a video about Over the Garden Wall, It is one of those things that I feel like everyone loves it but no one has seen it. And the feeling of it is so oddly unsettling, but in a way that's comforting? Idk just DO IT KARSTEN.
what i watched this month clueless legally blonde the first five minutes of my fair lady the queens gambit squid game yeah im not a big movie or tv fan but all i gotta say is that i loved everything i watched! maybe ill finish my fair lady if i watch another video on audrey hepburn. planning on watching blue period (the anime), but im a cheerleader, and tampopo. i always love these types of videos, karsten, and maybe one day ill be able to watch more movies in a month :)
We need more movies like "The Mummy". Just an awesome FUN adventure movie. Like Journey 1 & 2, Romancing the stone, Indiana jones franchise, King kong 2005, The Phantom, The rundown, The mask of Zorro...
Just wanted to say that I watched one of your reviews a couple of months ago and you talked about Greener Grass. I decided to immediately watch it (didn’t even finish the video… sorry.. your review on it was so good that my adhd said now or never) and I loved it. I’m working on my first feature film as an Art Pa and it turns out the Cinematographer was also the Cinematographer for Greener Grass! I talked to him a little about it too! Thanks for making me seem a tiny bit cooler to someone I want to impress lol
I think it's impossible to understand Cry Macho without watching other Eastwood films. Not that it's one of his best or anything, even if I quite liked it, but it justifies its existence because by this point it's obvious that Clint is one of the best directors alive and can do whatever he wants. The man wanted to do a sweet and entertaining film and he did it, he does not owe us anything anymore and is just doing movies because he enjoys it.
Yeah, and honestly I'm suprised Cry Macho is his first Clint Eastwood movie. He's made and been in plenty of big and amazing movies that have been a big part of pop culture history.
Could you do videos about spider-man adaptations? And also on Kiéslowski? I’d love to hear your opinions on these subjects/movies! Great content as always!
Hey Karsten! Love your videos, and I have a small suggestion: why not keeping your rating of the movie on-screen when talking about them? I always find myself going back to remember the rating once you talk about the movie, and it gets annoying hahaha. But I don't know, maybe that's just me
Evangelion 1.0 (8/10) The Man From Nowhere (9/10) In the Absence (no rating) Puparia (no rating) Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (7/10) Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus (9/10) The Scent of Green Papaya (10/10) Evangelion 2.0 (9/10) Evangelion 3.0 (9/10) Evangelion 3.0+1.0 (10/10) Cyclo (8/10) 12 Angry Men (10/10) Where is the Friend's House? (9/10) Redline (10/10) Die Hard (10/10) No Country for Old Men (7/10) Bitter, Sweet, Seoul (10/10) Dear Evan Hansen (3/10) Kung Fu Hustle (10/10) The Vertical Ray of the Sun (9/10)
You should watch What we do in the shadows the TV version, we are having fun with the show in season 3, very similar to the movie the same producers of the movie are working on it.
got hit by a car this afternoon and the only thing that got me through that hospital trip was knowing i had this karsten video waiting for me when i got out
If you'd like some genuinely good movies directed by Clint, I'd recommend Gran Torino, High Plains Drifter, Unforgiven, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Million Dollar Baby and Sudden Impact. If you want some really genuinely good movies that he stars in, I'd definitely recommend The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Dirty Harry, For A Few Dollars More, Magnum Force, The Beguiled, In The Line of Fire, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Coogan's Bluff, Escape From Alcatraz and Two Mules From Sister Sara.
these are clint Eastwoods best films that you should watch this year 1 the whole "Dirty Harry" Trilogy (5 movies) 2 the good the bad and the ugly 3 Escape from Alcatraz 4 Gran Torino 5 the mule 6 fistful dollars
Moonstruck perfectly portrays the real sensation of falling in love with Cher after knowing her for a day. The movie may not have been made by any Italians, but Amore is pretty much more Italian than Italy’s national anthem.
I just started my film class at school, so a lot of these are from that, but: - Glengarry Glen Ross 5/5 - The Starving Games (Hunger Games Satire, I watched it with my friends) 1.5/5 - The Kid 4/5 - The Karate Kid (At New Beverly Cinema, it was awesome) 4.5/5 - Frankenstein - Metropolis - Good Morning Vietnam - Dead Poets Society
The Suicide Squad was the best Blockbuster movie in 2021, because on technical level I couldn’t find any displeasure. They used the CG and Props very well. In the BTS I watched how much time and effort to make the places, the costumes and the most Gore scenes (Michael Rooker head was a prop as well and they exploded as many head as they get the right one) and CGI charachters looking great. The charachters are the Last thing I would say that they are boring. They are truly A-holes with a lot of isssues in emotional or in the head or just uno cent souls who seraching or doesn’t have any pourpose in life. They are all D list charachters and I was excited of them, because any of them could have died in the film. The reaper always on the screen, that’s how I would say that. These charachters are far more intresting than GOTG’s, because here, they more like a Rag-tag Team than a family. All the actors/actress are brilliant in the movie, especially the berak out Star Daniella Melchior with Idris Elba, this father and daughter type of relationship is really toched especially in the end where all I say is “Ratism”. I don’t have a problem with edgyness, if they use it well and it’s so Fucking rare from a Blockbuster movie where they make bloody, cruel and ugly deaths and in this movie they made it very well and in a weird way VERY ENTERTAINING. Don’t forget James Gunn made Gory and Weird stuff even before Marvel (Super on of the best Low budget movie imo). Cinematogrphy was incredible, all the shots of the movie were amazing (Peacemaker and Rick Flag fight showed on a helmet reflection, King Shark tearing apart a guy or watching out of the bus, Harley Quinn Escape (with a great Camerawork), the Teamshot with Pixies-Hey song, “Jotunheim”, “Starro vs Suicide Squad” I just wrote them without watching again the movie. I don’t know why people have problem with the pacing. I loved that after bombastic start, the movie slowed down and the charachters started to talk witch each others, building up their relationships (father and daughter, rivalry, good friend, etc). That’s what James Gunn is always good at, Charachter Dynamic, no one is redundant in the Team, even Rick Flag has a place in the Team. This is the movie where I felt James didn’t held back and he made this movie with care and love. It’s definietly his Love letter to the movies and Cinema itself as someone wrote this somewhere and I can’t argue about that. I Accept that someone doesn’t like the movie, but this was My favorite/best movie of 2021 from my favorite Director and I will defend it as long as I am alive. Definietly 5/5 for me if it wasn’t obvious.
If that midnight showing of The Thing was at Chicago Music Box, I almost went to that shit damn one of these days I will run into you and it’ll be awesome.
I saw The Thing at a midnight showing at The Music Box too! I had a feeling you'd be there xD What a blast. I always watch it a with a couple years between showings (enough time for me to forget some details haha) so it's still exciting every time
🌸 Aahh, I need to explore all those Jacques Demy stuff. Currently watching as many Agnès Varda films as I can find: absolutely in love with her empathetic perspective on basically everything. 💟 Really liked Ema and Tangled.
