Our family doctor missed my son's Type 1 Diabetes dx even though I said he was drinking a lot more than usual and my Aunt had Type 1 Diabetes. He didn't prick his finger. He sent him off with an antibiotic (he had had a virus and lingering symptoms). Once he did dx him, he had to spend 3 days in ICU recovering from DKA. Then, 6 months later I called their office crying because the lump under my arm was bothering me again. He had looked at it before and said it was nothing, just a cyst, but I was concerned about breast cancer. I called and tried to make the appt, but then started crying and I said I didn't know what I'd do if he missed it, too. That led to a dismissal from the practice. My period started the next day and I finally, years later, got a dx of PMDD. Ppl laugh about women before their periods, but it can literally be relationship-ruining. On top of me getting 3-4 hrs of sleep a night from taking care of my son and battling insurance. I wouldn't have sued the doctor, but I wish instead of doctors taking classes on which patients to dismiss, they would actually learn how to dx mental illness. Slynd (progesterone only birth control) has actually changed my life, not antidepressants. Prozac caused weight gain for me and didn't fix anything. It was completely hormonally driven. I love your video, especially the end. I hope doctors are also screened for psycopathy or sociopathy because I firmly believe some have no conscience and they shouldn't be turned loose on the public. I didn't have breast cancer, btw. He was right about that, at least.

Hello! I hope you end up reading this. I'm Shruti, an IMG from India. I graduated in 2018, worked since then to support myself and take care of my mental health. I recently gave step 1, my score is 244. Your videos greatly helped with my prep, so thank you! I plan on giving step 2 ck soon. I'm interested in pursuing IM/Neurology/Psychiatry. Due to covid and visa issues, I may not be able to get USCE done before September this year. I do not have any research published yet, but I've been applying to places. Should I do telerotations now and apply this year or wait to do in-person observerships and apply next year? How much of a red flag is year of graduation, especially since next year I'd be slightly over the 5 year cut off? Any input you can give on this will be valuable. Thanks!

Hey Shruti, I don’t think there’s a clear right pathway in this case and you could certainly make either option work. But, as a rule of thumb I’ve seen that successful applicants tend to prioritize networking and USCE/research over rapidness of application. In the end, program directors choose who they think is best. So who would you choose? The applicant that applied faster with a decent resume on his side or the applicant who applied a yer later with a lot more going for it? Please take this with a grain of salt, as delaying your application one more year will only be of benefit if if you manage to improve it over that time. Good luck!

@@SantiagoAQ Thank you for replying. That does offer some clarity. I'll consider working on building my resume more and applying later. Thank you :)
