I dive deep into the heart of what it truly means to begin a career in emergency medical services (EMS) sharing the lessons and reflections I've gathered from my journey as a paramedic and now The Paramedic Coach.
From the decisions in the heat of the moment to the reflections after a day's work, I explore the changes I would implement if I had the chance to start my paramedic career over again today.
I share with you my unique perspective on how to navigate the challenges and rewards of this vital profession. Whether you are just starting your EMS education journey, preparing for NREMT exams or a seasoned EMS provider I hope you take a pearl or two away from this video.
Let me know in the comments, what you would do if you started over today and how long you have been in EMS?
Be great,
Evan, The Paramedic Coach

Really wish I felt this calling earlier in life. For healthcare I have to juggle a full time job alongside EMT school. To play it safe I'm studying first & then try to ace it on the first go -- having school deadlines with a fulltime job can quietly become a big issue

I did the same last year. You can do it. Study hard. My NREMT written shut off with a perfect score. Keep pushing and you'll get it. This channel is a HUGE help.

I’m in medic school now. My best friend is going through it while also running a construction company. I have zero clue how he is pulling this off. But he is. Good luck!

The pay. Was offered 16.85 and hour as an EMT after passed NREMT. Went back to security making 27.50 an hour

@@Brd876 the best bet is being volunteer while working a student job full time then working towards becoming a paramedic or firefighter. EMT is an entry level position with a ~10 week course

@@Brd876 that's subjective. Firefighters I know tell me they are happy with their income (& benefits, pension, etc). I'm aware that paramedic does not pay the best, yes. If I can't be an FF paramedic then I'll be a regular one anyway knowing the fulfillment will come primarily from serving others (religious reasons)

Small unsolicited detail I would say is research if fire is required for the agencies in your area…

@TheParamedicCoach Hey, man! Hope all is awesome with the career and channel! I went through community college EMT and firefighting. I just started EMT and love it! I don’t know if I’ll do paramedic yet but love what the job is. I look forward to more videos that you’ll put out in the guy and thanks again for helping me pass my NREMT (the hardest test I’ve ever taken). 😎

I got my EMT license after retirement and volunteer with a local squad. I took the 12 week summer course at our local community college to use up my GI Bill. It's normally a 16 week course. We had to do 48 ride along hours with 12 ER transports and a 10 hour clinical at the local hospital. Our squad will even sponsor someone to attend either an on-line course or the community college course with a payback clause. I enjoy having students on ride alongs. Yes, they are 50 years my junior, but eager to learn and take the lead with certain patients. I always recommend your RU-vid channel along with Limmer as learning tools. Your channel helped my get through the NREMT. Thanks. BTW, the 12 week course is a nut-buster. There is a lot to learn in a short time and getting through the 1275 page Limmer book was a challenge.

Does a Associates in General Science apply to EMT needs? I was recommend to take A&P 1 and 2

Honestly EMS is NOT a long term career. Pay is so bad. Go do Nursing, PA or other better paying healthcare jobs. If you want to be in EMS I encourage you not to be in it for long.
