great video but i am pretty sure the point of divergence was after the book was written. with ww3 being referred to as the atomic wars breaking out somewhere in the 50s resulting in the soviets taking Europe and china falling into another round of warlord ism.

This doesn't feel believable since maybe that the Ingsoc Revolution happens during the cold War as in the Book it says Oceania is a Combination of the US and the Remnants of the British Empire

Well all i can say with how 1984 ends is that you missed something. At the end of the book Oceania had apparently captured all of Africa if I remember correctly.

The term Ingsoc comes from "English speaking" not England itself. Oceania was modeled on Churchill's proposed "union of the English speaking peoples". The incorporation of Latin America was probably inspired by the Monroe doctrine

In truth, living in the British Isle during World War Two is very reminiscent of how life in London is described in 1984, with constant bombings, and even the scary rocket bombs, German V2 Rockets launched from the Lowlands and France, alongside the constant rationing and shortages of everything due to the war effort, with arrests of political opponents taking place under Winston Churchill of anyone who suggested that peace in the war against the Nazi’s could be attainable, even by the 1950’s, the British Empire was essentially non existent and the UK was essentially an American vassal state and still to this day is reminiscent of that, being run by massive corporations and having extremely liberal policies. The only difference in our timeline is of course, the US was a strong republic and thus it is here where we live in our current timeline and not that of 1984’s.

Hitler and even Gorbachev were both deluded which I agree with. You could now say that Putin is as equally deluded with his war in the Ukarine. Overall this is a good alternative history to set up the context of the world of 1984.

What I think is that Great Britain, Airstrip One, is like a religious sanctuary state of Ingsoc where the rest of Oceania goes to pilgrimage : elsewhere in Oceania things are not very different from in our timeline. Airstrip One is to Oceania what Saudi Arabia or Taliban Afghanistan are to the whole Muslim World. Elsewhere The Party allows for a more conservative party like the Republicans to form an opposition. Eurasia especially Europe is more advanced technologically and enjoys a better standard of living, it is a meritocracy. Eastasia is a New Age state (Death Worship is the Hindu cult of Goddess Kali and is based on reincarnation as well as on the idea that the individual is an error of perception).

By brining 1984 into our current trend of 'alternative histories' or meta-verses you are defanging what was essential to Orwell and neutering the book, sorry. 1984 is essentially a part of our world. Orwell was not dreaming of a different world, he was concerned with what he saw happening in the UK. As a Brit at that time he was probably Anglo-centric the way Americans are American-centric today. The work is a warning about things that Orwell was concerned about in the UK in 1948, and his main concern was that people in the Labour Party at that time would take over and create a Stalinist regime. It might seem silly now but at the time things were more in play. Orwell had fought in Spain and he saw Stalinists take over the Republican movement and impose their cult of murder, so he was deeply concerned about how Ideology on power might undermine culture. Though our future is not the future he feared, the book has a very important message not just about the power of the State, but about the danger of ideology breaking down culture and society. I see this warning as far more useful then the fear of state surveillance. Double Speak aims to make power by making cultural life, love, art and anything other than raw power possible. I fear that Post-Modern propaganda created by MAGA, Free Palestine, Hamas, Putin, Brexit, Anti-Vaxxers, China, Tik Tok and endless sources are doing the same. Via a use of social media agents are trying to push raw power by breaking down all systems of truth or value that exist.
