As an IndyCar fan, I really expected the prototype to be right there with it. Beyond all the engineering, I guess it's a weight thing? Like, the prototype is just that much heavier?

The prototype is roughly three hundred kilos heavier. I think that the weight along with the Indycar probably having better aero grip thanks to the big wings and ground effect made the difference.

GTP is fresh new cars, they are slower than the old LMP1. Porsche built one LMP1 outlaw and it was faster than a F1 in Spa. I really don't know in comparative to the old DPI class whether it is faster or not...

@@e1cabral LMP1 was a lot faster than current Hypercar/GTP class. Le Mans pole this year was arround 3.28 minutes, LMP1 record is 3.13,

Oh, in 2026 or 2027, Indy Cars will have a brand new engine with more hp. Indy Car spec has parameters, but they should never be slower than GTP on any course! F1 1st, then IndyCar 2nd is where it should be.

FYI, GTP's lap time record is about 1 second faster than Indy Car's lap record at Road America. GTP has a bigger engine and more HP, so on a bigger track the GTP is faster. Clarification: the hp is about the same, but the pull on the straights for GTP, say for Road Am, hit 200. Indy Car's are only hitting low 190s. Indy Car's handle a bit better in the turns. Either way, Indy Cars need more hp for the street n road courses and not from that stupid capacitor bank that has NOT made the cars faster. So far, lap records prove it.
