That has to be the World Record in the amount of time a belt would be stripped from a Champion in a weight class. DC is ACTIVE, he's not just sitting on the sidelines commentating, pulling Michael Bisping's finger, and popping bubble wrap with Kenny Florian! Lessor athletes have held on to their belt for over a year before the UFC has even talked about even an Interim Champion. I don't know, if I were DC, I would be tired of hearing about Jon Jones, and I CERTAINLY would not be at all comfortable having to relinquish my belt to him right after I defended it.

Normally to promote fights they talk about how the other guy has no chance. To promote this fight they have to convince spectators that the other does have a chance.

If he loses to DL, he will likely lose the LHW strap as well, but more importantly, if Derek Lewis is the Heavyweight champ, you can expect Jones to fight Gus (maybe win) then go up to fight Derek Lewis (maybe win) and then fight Brock Lesnar in a giant super fight for a billion dollars. What I'm saying is that Daniel better win that fight....

Its not like they will get extra ppv buys for having it be a title fight. Jones vs gustafson will sell regardless because its jon. If the ufc was smart they would have the winner fight DC for the belt in march at DC's send off. Edit: Brock definitely doesn't deserve the shot.

The point is made... pointless. by the fact DC said he was getting paid a lot for this fight. That is his win. If he loses, tough. No two division champ (not that there's been many) has been allowed to keep his two belts if he takes a fight. DC is lucky he hasn't been stripped immediately, like Conor's 145lb belt was.

The reality is that at 40 years old and with his body-type, DC WILL NEVER MAKE 205 AGAIN. When he was fighting at 205, he struggled, and that's when he running around much slimmer between fights. I've read several thing that said DC now balloons up to 260 every since they made the Stioe fight. Now that he's gained that much, and it's had about a year to metabolize and really become a part of him, there's absolutely NO Way he makes 205 without nearly dying. And even if he could, he'd be compromised and not able to beat the likes of Jones or Alex. He's a heavyweight fighter now, just let the 205 days go.

Lewis knocking out Cormier would help redeem the heavyweight division. The problem with Dana White scheduling the alleged "superfight" between Stipe and Daniel (which did not sell well) is that (1) it risked devaluing the heavyweight division by having your baddest man in the world-with multiple title belt defenses against the best ranked heavyweights-lose to a fat light heavyweight; and (2) tie up the light heavyweight division for God knows how long while Daniel is walking around at 250 for the foreseeable furure. Of course that's what happened and now we have a clusterfuck where 2 weight divisions are esssentially held hostage by a guy who says he's going to retire after 2 more fights. Daniel needs to be stripped of his light heavyweight belt ASAP., particularly where he did not do the right thing in giving Stipe a rematch. That will jump start the light heavyweight division with a Jones Gustaffson title fight and hopefully see the heavyweight division regain some credibilty with a Lewis victory. At least he's a fat heavyweight.
