Here is a comparison of the canon height of each Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character. 1080p 60fps Gameplay recorded and edited by Nintendo Unity. Consider to like, share and subscribe to support the channel.
Captain Falcon is the only character that I could not find a canon height for. There are no statements about his height in his games, anime, comic etc. and he never stood next to a character that has a canon height (aside from Smash itself). Also, since the height of Miis varies, they were excluded. Finally, I want to point out that you can calculate different heights for some characters depending on what game / statement you use.
@@metaknightSSBU see, the thing is that Kirby is stated to be rather tiny (even in Smash 64 it says he's like 12 inches or something), so characters from the same universe are all pretty small. All those eldritch abominations that can end the universe that Kirby kills on a weekly basis? Yep, can reasonably be punted into oblivion by your average human. But obviously Smash scales everyone to be of a reasonably similar size. This applies to the trailers too probably.
Samus's height depends on the region, or it did around the time of Super Metroid. While both US and JP sources listed her as 190cm (nearly 6'3") and 90kg (over 198lb), this was her in-armor measurements in Japan while it was treated as her out-of-armor measurements by Nintendo of America. You only have to look at Metroid: Other Mission to see that Sakamoto's version of Samus is nowhere near 6'3" out of her suit. The US interpretation came from the Super Metroid guide published by Nintendo of America: "The Power Suit hides a strong, muscular woman. Samus is nearly six feet, three inches tall and weighs nearly 200 pounds." Nintendo of America treated Samus as a hyper-competent Amazonian figure. Japan has treated her somewhat differently, particularly under Sakamoto's control.
I feel that using Mario Kart 8 is a bit of a stretch for comparison. Like, okay, they all kind of need to fit in the karts and be recognized, but they don't really use their canon size, just as they don't actually exist in the same universe. Lorewise, the Inklings come from a future Earth where humans are long dead, yet there they are in Mario Kart playing with Mario and pals, to say nothing about Link. If you don't think about it, it's a nice little thing to have them all as guest characters in Mario Kart, as it was intended. But if you start trying to look at it objectively and take things like height comparisons and backgrounds to try to explain things, then it goes a bit off.
The fact Kirby is that small really makes you rethink the cosmic horrors he fights as final bosses. Zero is a lot less intimidating when you realize they’re about the size of an exercise ball.
I remember seeing a tumblr post about this, and how despite the fact that Kirby is 20cm tall Star Dream still manages to be MASSIVE I don't remember the exact size OP calculated but it was pretty big
@@nesyaj0301 in most modes of Super star, triple deluxe and squeak squad Kirby is just minding his own business before being attacked, so for those games the theory is out
^this Everyone likes to think Charizard is a massive flying dragon. When in reality he's really short. I've had ex girlfriends who would tower over a charizard lol
I'm more triggered by the fact that Fire Emblem has SO many characters in Smash, yet its sibling series has literally nothing. *LITERALLY NOTHING* to be even spoken of... Well, at least MAYBE that will no longer be the case once the "Re-Boot" is launched, which I'm still looking forward too, even though I'll never be able to afford it, I'm fairly certain... Considering how broke I am and probably always will be....
We need something like this where their Smash models are all lined up and scaled to canon size, shortest to tallest, in a 3D environment where the camera starts with a close up of Olimar then slowly zooms out, panning through all the characters up till Ridleys whole body is on screen.
1.6 meters is Sora's official height in KH3, but his model in Smash is based on his KH1 appearance which is before his growth spurt, so he'd actually be much shorter.
Did you play the games? It shows how much he grew. His KH1 romper goes past his knees in the first game, and in the beginning of KH2 it only reaches mid-thigh. That's quite a difference.
I did not expect K. Rool to be so tall that his head was off-screen. You mostly just see his belly. Ridley's size is inconsistent, but only his legs showing up when standing upright gave me a chuckle.
I've always questioned as a kid why deedeedee was a giant penguin. . . but he's really not a giant. . . everyone in the Kirby universe is just REALLY SMALL!
The world of smash is relative therefore in kirby everyone is small but that is their unit of measurement. So kirby may be very small in his world but in smash he is relatively small but not the smallest. Its hard to pitch canonical height against each other as there is no way of truly knowing
@@benjaminsmith8377 kirby has slain eldritch gods and with some effort cracked a planet larger then earth. The planet destruction was without involving his copy abilities. That fuck is gonna happen if he swallows a nuclear device? The fuck would happen if he faced a nuke in general? Kirby as small as he may be is a god killer that could dismantle all earth governments and destroy the planet
I don't know which is scarier, the fact that Rosalina is the Lady Dimitrescu of the Mushroom Kingdom, or that Kirby is the second shortest character, and yet he's the most powerful being in the game.
@@MunchKING nah ness isnt that powerful. He has his friends to back him up. The giygas fight was only won through the collective prayer of everyone on earth. He's more of a support character. He can beat the shit out of a dinosaur though
I think what's funnier than realizing how small some characters really are is the comparison of body structure between characters. It's hard to believe Sheik is about as tall as Mario when Mario's head is almost the same size as Sheik's upper body.
Inkling's height is debatable, since while it is official that they can jump 5 ft, that may not be the normal jump, rather the super jump used to get back with an ally/beacon, so depending on which one you count as the 5 ft jump, they could be super small or more human size, there's a strong case for them being super small because of all the seemingly giant objects like food, consoles or cartridges and such in the games, the consoles and cartridges being in the octo expansion, and the food in the background of the salmon run maps.
Also a lot of the equipment they end up using is seemingly large versions of ordinary equipment. Like paintbrushes, pencils, and the like. Octo Expansion spoilers below! Not to forget the "device" we assembled in Octo Expansion was a normal sized blender, that our Octoling fits conveniently inside of. And the giant death laser we fight at the end was assembled inside of the actual Statue of David.
I call shenanigans on the Fire Emblem guys (besides Byleth) all being the same height. Fire Emblem Warriors has Marth, Chrom, and Robin in it, and you can definitely compare their heights in that game. There's even a scene where Chrom and Robin are standing almost side by side head on and Robin is definitely a bit shorter than Chrom there.
yes its always easy to get fooled by the look on King dedede that he looks massive but don't forget how tiny the kirby characters are and you'll see that king dedede isn't as massive as we thought he was, this video makes total sense that he would be toy sized
@@rydrake9509 Yeah, if you don't take actual Kirby games into account Including the most recent one that literally has him able to stand next to a car for size reference.
Holy moly I would *not* have expected K.rool to be that imposing, man could lowkey just stick his finger into my chest and my heart would come out the other side o_o
I would take that size with a grain of salt. DKC1 is an outlier and thus not good for accurate comparisons. In every subsequent game (except DK64 where he's goddamn Goliath for some reason) he's noticeably smaller, being around Bowser's common size.
Steve got a canon height of 6’2” recently so you were really close on that one!! Honestly him being 6 feet alone is weird but now knowing he’s an inch taller than me feels even weirder lol
Sora is 160cm in Kingdom Hearts 3, but since he got noticeably taller between CoM and KH2, Kingdom Hearts 1 Sora should be around 135cm to 140cm. Nice video, though.
Funny how the guy with "Little" in his game is taller than Mario and a large chunk of the roster 😅 Certainly didn't expect Sora to be taller than Mario either, or to be the same height as Link! Or for the Kirby gang to be THAT tiny!
I like that Mewtwo and Sephiroth are the same height. They've already got a lot in common. They were both biological experiments done for greedy reasons, both of them ended up with overwhelming power, both of them suffered as a result of being used, and both eventually decided that humans are dumb. And the secrets to their origins are both locked away in old mansions. ANYWAYS I love them and they should be friends.
The difference, of course, is that Mewtwo is more full of self-loathing while Sephiroth immediately went mad with power and murdered a whole village upon learning the truth about his birth.
I love how most of them are kinda tiny. Like, you know their reputation as these incredibly strong warriors and they're all like 1.7m and then Rosalina comes around the corner, towering over them at 2.3m. I'm also just a big fan of Little Mac being the size of Charizard and taller than Mario. His entire thing is that he's small and then he's taller than Nintendo's Mascot and the same size as the first Pokemon most people think of when it comes to dragons.
Mario is about five feet tall, and can jump about five times his height from a standing start. So, Mario can jump the height of a two-storey building with room to spare without even building up a run. Pretty good for a man of his girth.
Funfact:Kirby's tiny size mean he's portable. You can carry him on purse, bag or with your arms.He is also small enough to be fit on dustbins, small boxes, baskets, etc.Tiny size is another reason why Kirby is so cute and adorable. Another fact is Kirby's height is equal to world's smallest cat breed,Singapura which is weights 4lbs to 8lbs(1.8kg-3.6kg) and 7-8 inches in height.
I actually calculated all of their heights in Ultimate on a playing field. Almost everyone except the really small guys and Ridley are really close to their Cannon height. Also isn't funny how weirdly tall the girls are?
Great video! But I noticed one smaaaaalllllllll mistake at 3:47, see, Wario is actually canonically 10 ft tall, which is of course, the average height of an Italian.
When Fans said "Ridley is to tall to be in Smash" I laughed and thought, well Olimar for example wouldn´t be able to be seen if he had his original size.
I'm pretty sure the "Too big" argument stemmed from something Sakurai said but you're definitely right about it being a stupid reason and I'm glad Sakurai and the team finally realized that.
@@drakejoshofficialyoutubech5569 i think the stated reason was that his size was part of his intimidation factor, and shrinking him down to a playable size would ruin that. seems they realized they could still have him as a beast if they increased his ferocity a bit
Funny how monsters like, Gannondorf, bowser, K. Rool, and Ridleyare some of the biggest, and then there is Roselina and Bayonetta Edit: I think I confused everyone by replying
I'm guessing most of the characters' heights are based on average heights in Japan and neighbouring Asian countries. Little Mac is of European descent however. A short European man can still be above average by Japanese standards
The most cursed height is that Link is the same height as Roy. He's the same height as Fire Emblems youngest and shortest protagonist who is infamous for being a total weakling. This makes the OoT age up a joke at best.
Bowser’s inconsistent size change has to do with how much magic is effecting him. Mario galaxy 2 with the power of a grand star he is massive, but when it is removed he is back to a more normal size.
@@christiancasaverdepertica1802 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ycq0zS0XZNE.html yeah people have done basically every single kk slider remix possible
Nintendo are trying to distinguish her from Peach in the sport and Party games. They made her a little bit shorter and fatter in Tennis and Golf and tanned her skin in Golf and MP Superstars.
@@slandboi495 true lol. I would say the reason to that is because he's not trying to use his full power and cause damage to any civilization he's protecting(granted Bowser was at his peak at the time in 64 but was a lot more casual in party.
I feel like that has always been some sort of mistranslation. As in not due to his size (Olimar proves size doesn't matter) but his role in the games. Ridley worked very well as a Boss throughout Smash, especially with his constant flight making him a good challenge. Though, after the whole thing with Pyroshere I highly doubt Sakurai could go back to making Ridley just a boss.
Unfortunately, the reasoning for that is Greninja is always on a third limb unless he is moving, which then he lowers himself. So his dominance pose was the best you could get.
6:10 thats no wonder why she's a heavy weight class in all Mario Kart games, she's not really that heavy but she's actually too tall and big bones for fitting into medium vehicule, and it safe to say that her bones and muscles are bigger than waluigi's which explains why Waluigi was a medium in MK double dash instead of heavy
Some are very inaccurate indeed (Bowser but his size is very random already in Mario games, Roy, Morton) But Ridley is small enough to be playable at last and I like that.
@@magma1675 well, official to the same extent that smash heights are, in that they're based on what officially _feels_ right in the context of gameplay rather than aiming for actual accuracy hell, mk heights are probably fudged even more than smash ones are, given that characters are rarely side-by-side so how the character looks in their kart has a _lot_ more weight than getting the relative scale down pat
@@venezemapping9920 To say nothing about Steve carrying the equivalent weight of 6 Eiffel Towers in his back pocket, and that was BEFORE Shulker Boxes were a thing.
Oh man, Peach is crazy tall, in retrospective it makes sense, after all, Mario is indeed 1.50, but it really seems unreal how she's that much taller than him
I can imagine hearing his voice from the Kirby anime “DOH! DAT THEIR KIRBEH GOT SO BIG.” And then Escargoon would say, “I think that’s a jigglypuff sire.”
I find the fact that Bayo is 8 ft. 2 in. to be the funniest part. Like I've never played her games and I'm aware that she's probably not a human, but I always just kinda thought of her as similar enough to humans.
Imagine fighting something Ridely sized in a pikmin game, It would be like the one episode of spongebob where he shrinks everyone and puts them inside of him, only on a larger scale
Dr Mario is actually canonically the smallest character. He tosses pills as big as his head, that are only twice as big as a virus. Dr Mario is so small, he can barely be described as an organism. All of the organs belonging to multicellular organisms just cannot be replicated in such a small doctor.
The booklet that states Fox's height is from a non-canon game. The official heights of these characters (I'm relatively sure of) are Fox 5' 7", Wolf 6' 2", Falco 6' 0', Snake 6' 0", and Captain Falcon 6' 7", and Sephiroth 6' 1"
