Gary vs. Paul wouldn't just be a great battle in terms of deciding which one of them is the strongest. I really love the idea of the grandson of a famous Pokemon Researcher (along with spending time gaining experience as a researcher himself) vs. the younger brother of a former trainer (who had A LOT of badges and Frontier symbols)/current breeder. That would be a true battle of analytical thinking. Both trainers have taken a page from Ash's book on more than one occasion by thinking outside of the box. Paul utilized the Counter Shield and Gary used Nidoqueen's tail to jump before attacking with Double Kick like Bayleef used Vine Whip to gain momentum before a Body Slam. It would be a true battle of rival giants in Ash's history!
Personally, I think Gary would recognize Serena almost right away, unlike Ash, and it's very likely that Gary went to the very same summer camp that Ash and Serena went to when they were younger.
Main galar mons of Gary can be: Dracozolt That octopus pokemon(forgot) Calyrex(he needed a legend also calyrex has a big head which is like gary's brain) Umbreon(he would take as he loves it too much) Dragapult(cool guy😎)
OK but imagine if Gary says that he's older than ash They are both 10 at the beginning of the series if I recall. So him saying "yeah I'm 12" would straight up just change the whe series 🤣

Mystic umbreon im Nidal i actully have a sequel fanfiction to pokemon journeys or when ever the anime ended, well in my fanfic gary is back to be a jerk but not much but still he is now back as a jerk because he learned about the pokemon masters world tornement the ultimate world tornement for pokemon trainers and a chance to be a pokemon Master so he got intreasted then rememmberd his father will to be a champion so gary and ash are rivals again to see who is the strongest with gary also catch 25 IM SAYING 25 LEGENDARY POKEMON to anhilate his enemys and his pride more and more grows up into a unhealthy pride with ash is the one to destroy his pride at the end. @Master_guy because he prefers quantity over quality he doesn't train all his pokemon and have a lot of them, another reason is that ash is a better trainer than him and he became champion after travelling in 6 different regions maybe he may become champion but it would take a lot of time
@@mihirsinha3270 nope Gary rotates most of his Pokemon. Ash was only able to beat him because of someone else trained his Charizard for him. Not to mention Gary knows more about pokemon type advantage, abilities and moves.
He technically could he wanted; the writers apparently stated that he is still actively battling and training, but is not interested in joining the championships.
Yh maybe Lance should share his role since he is champion of both kanto and Johto, Gary should be champ of Kanto while Lance gets Johto its a win-win since two regions is a bit two much for one guy in my opinion

I'd say Ash has more potential. Considering his Aura descendance, he could likely understand his Pokemon on another level and that'd give him an advantage when making calls. Oak is more of a prodigy, and with hardwork, he'd definitely keep Ash on his toes and would make Paul look like dogshit
I think characters like Alain and Kukui opened the door for Gary to be a researcher, but also a strong battler like before. (Plus, Journeys seems on track to putting another layer on Ash and Gary's bond. If they decide to have another friendly battle, it'd be a good way to showcase how Gary's researching skills improved his battling. Maybe it plays a role in Ash's match with Leon)
See the anime from Gary’s POV. Ash is a really naive dweeb with barely any knowledge of Pokémon what’s so ever yet is still given a Pokémon after lazily snoozing on his first day. Gary doesn’t respect Ash cause he thought he wasn’t serious about being a Pokémon master.
If that happened so, he would be the strongest competitive player in the pokemon franchise. Even we had to struggle defeating his team as we he's team's full of high tierd pokemons, only some like electivire are low tierd
Come to think of it, his game counterpart Blue served time as Viridian Gym Leader before hanging out with his old pal Red, first at the World Tournament and later guarding access to the Battle Tree in Alola. Boy, do their career paths parallel each other in so many ways...
I honestly think that it'd be a nice idea to have Gary to be Ash's rival for Pokemon Journeys mainly because A, I haven't watched the series too much and B, from what I can tell, Ash doesn't really have a proper rival and Gary is Ash's OG rival and having Gary return and join the Tornament would be a fun idea
My thoughts before watching this video : If Gary had remained a trainer, Ash would've been a much better trainer than he currently is. Reason? Gary most likely won't have that skill and team reset in the beginning of every region(unless the writers try too hard). He'd only keep getting better and better, making Ash work even harder, to keep up with him. The two of them would be like Red and Blue by the time they reach Alola.
Well Gary would mayby start new regions whit only 1 pokemon, but by the 3 badge or so would start getting his older ones back on the team, not only to keep them active, but to help train his newer ones. Ash would see this and start doing the same, as he only startet whit only Pikachu due to Gary doing the same. So he would become a mutch better trainer, as having his OG rival, he could not flop like black and white saga, and he would have to keep a more lvl head to best him.

It was good seeing Gary in Journeys and now I can't wait to see Dawn return very soon. Also I hope Serena will return speaking of her I love her and Dawn.
Honestly I think we can get rid of mono type elite 4s, maybe do how Galar does having gym leaders compete, or have elite 4s that focus on specific fighting styles. We have also 18 types now, which would allow each version have special gym leagues (similar to how Galar did for some gyms)
Gary could have been a good companion at one point when he quit being a trainer. He could travel with Ash studying different historical sites in the region

I would LOVE to see Gary and Paul battle! I really think Paul could learn empathy from Gary a lot faster since they are more similar in how they battle and Paul would be a real challenge for Gary. I can see Gary being a big brother figure to Serena and helping her with her crush on Ash mainly because he finds it funny that Ash is oblivious and he knows something that Ash doesn't. Having Gary inter the Kalos League would have been very interesting. A Mega Blastoise vs Ash-Greninja battle sounds amazing!
That would be interesting to seen Gary continue in the Pokemon trainer. What if Ask & Gary swapped rolls. If Ask because the professor and Gary stay as trailer?

Gary would no doubt have been an extremely high-ranking trainer had he continued down that path, but he chose to make his way as a researcher and I respect his character for that. I would like to think that he could possibly catch a Copperajah and/or Toxtricity as well.

Gary was what Ash and Paul where but better I mean he had the drive, the determination and the love for his pokemon he was the best of both worlds It's just a shame he didn't stay with it he could've became the true Pokemon master.
