How would vegeta or frieza know about the dragonballs? Vegeta found out through raditz scooter and he knew where goku was sent to earth, didn't he accidentally land on namek? So he wouldn't know where he actually landed. They also didn't mention the dragonballs around his scooter when raditz died... that's yhe only thing vegeta wanted, so they most likely wouldn't see a reason to go to namek.
