Thanks for watching! What did you think of this version of the story? Are you excited for the next part? CONTEXT: For those curious, I did a story like this back in 2019...but it wasn't something I was happy over time - so this is a second go at it with more time put to it and a more rational process.
A REBOOT!!! YES! YOU'RE REBOTS ARE THE BEST! Any chances for "What if Gohan was Earth's Hero?". Videl could still end up with Gohan after getting to know him. Also, destruction of Buu would still happen with Spirit Bomb and all Earthlings would help Goku and Gohan win like in that iconic Kamehameha Struggle scene during Cell games.
I am a bit confused as to why [Grandpa] Gohan trained with Roshi instead of training UNDER Roshi, alongside the Ox King. Did Shen train with both of them, or did he train elsewhere in this version? *Edit:* Found your answer to someone else. Enjoying the story either way, and frankly I assume this Gohan and Ox King had many interesting times under Roshi. Or Roshi and Shen under Mutaito. :)
Doesn't really matter that much, but Grandpa Gohan wasn't a student under Mutaito with Roshi. He was a student under Roshi with Ox-King. Small error aside, this was a great story.
@@thethoughtfulrioter2252 That's already stated in the original post. Mutaito was the master of Roshi and Shen. Roshi was the master of Gohan and Ox-King. The error being pointed out was MasakoX saying Gohan was the student of Mutaito with Roshi. Gohan was NOT Mutaito's student.
Yeah it does supreme Kai explained to Goku that when he first landed on Earth he didn't want Gohan's kindness and he was tearing up the place that plays a big part in if Goku didn't lose his memory
Room for a redo of "What if Raditz Never Came To Earth?" It'd be so interesting to see how Goku and Piccolo's rivalry would develop if Raditz never arrived.
You could still do a Namek saga by having Piccolo kills the others but dying in the process. In space, they would learn about Frieza and the Saiyans, and once their friends are resurrected, try to seek them out. Dr Gero still does a Dr. Gero, but perhaps the Androids are weaker and more easily dealt with, maybe even by the Earthlings while some of them are in space looking for the Saiyans.
I like this more stubborn, irritable Goku. Of course, it's all the wisdom of hindsight with his saiyan-ness and everything, but even so. A lot of writers underestimate how much the audience will like someone who's confrontational or angry, but keeping Goku's respect for Gohan is a great way to add the extra nuance to it, without taking away from the saiyan nature.
I really like how Gohan survived, cause it not only allowed Goku to develop and progress further, it also made a nice parallel to regular Goku, that him turning into a nicer, merciful person was at the cost of his grandpa's life. This also creates a very nice dynamic between Goku and Bulma, almost like she's with Vegeta much early on. This idea that they both need each other (Goku needs her for a proper adventure and Bulma needs him for protection) is entertaining and ripe with potential. Though Chi-Chi's probably gonna either be sidelined entirely or be slightly more vengeful against Goku and more likely to stay a fighter with the Z Warriors later down the line.
Okay, okay...! Great start to this redo! As much as they don't like each other right now, I actually could see Goku and Bulma hitting it off in a few years. Even if it's a decidedly different dynamic than in the OG Bulma/Goku ship, Bulma has shown herself every bit a match for cantankerous little Saiyans.
He has no memories of his parents and Planet Vegeta. He's going off the Bardock special instead of Minus, and there he was just an infant instead of a toddler
Ooo, I caught the start of one early! And with another rather interesting premise. Looking forward to seeing how you tackle this with your slower-paced and more detailed approach, and how this evolves through the years!
I haven't watched yet but I always wondered why people think Goku would automatically become evil if he didn't bump his head. In my opinion, he would've eventually learned "kindness" or learn to be as kind as a saiyan can get. I think Goku would just be more strong willed, doing whatever he wants whenever he wants until taught otherwise.
Well to be fair, the Saiyan race has only really been humanized in recent years. Earlier interpretations literally had Goku’s pod repeatedly giving him the order to “Wake up Kakarot, destroy all Lifeforms.” I assume that’s where the ‘welp here I go killin again” mindset comes from with a lot of Saiyans, but it’s been phased out.
Agreed. I honestly think if he didn't hit his head, Grandpa Gohan would eventually have "tamed" Goku, to an extent. I think he'd end up having a personality similar to Caulifla.
It's double weird because Vegeta was someone incredible cruel even by Saiyan standards and he still got reformed (granted it took a while but it happened) Goku would probably come around much quicker
Hmm… Glad your redoing this one, Goku not hitting his head is one of the more interesting Goku centered What ifs (Other then Goku/Kakarot’s parents surviving or being born in U6 or being raised by a bad guy).
Hmm, Goku and Bulma relationship/bickering sounds a lot like her and Vegeta in canon. And since canon Bulma has a thing for "bad boy" type I wonder if may end with them ending up together in this too, although naturally it'd be more VegeBul dynamic since Goku's different here.
launch perhaps suno i dont see chichi taking a liking for this goku ranfan please dont say about age in real life people with 10 to 15 20 30 40 50 0 years age difference marry zangya tights bulma's sister vados female saiyans orf universe 6 that female heater lady
I wonder how Goku's lack of trust will effect the story down the road.Maybe Goku won't spare his enemy's like the original.Anyways keep up the good work Masako.
Nice another what if where Grandpa Gohan survives. It's interesting seen Goku with more Saiyan-like traits. I'm hoping by the ending of OG Dragon Ball Timeline Goku has a more balanced personality of his canon self and this new personality of Goku, because of all the new friends he made and masters he has trained under. Now that you did a redo of this what if I'm hoping you do next is: What if Gohan was Earth's Hero? Anyways another really good redo of this old what if, and looking forward to the next part soon.
AHHHHH, I LIKE THIS A BAZILLION TIMES MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL-- Masako you sly creature. This better be a staple like Raditz's, or Turles' (love where that one is currently going). SUBSCRIBED X10.
You really add character to these version on the characters. The comic relief always makes me laugh. When Goku says “Bumlee” 🤣😂🤣 or Caulifla saying “pickle”
Honestly, just taking a shot in the dark, I can see this interpretation of Goku actually crushing on someone like Launch. Given Chi-Chi's aversion to "delinquents" I don't really see her taking an interest in this Goku, and I think Goku and Bulma would have even more of a pseudo-sibling dynamic.
Thanks for all the hard work you and all your colleagues keep putting into all these what ifs. Keep up the great work guys. Years of enjoyment, and hopefully more to come! :D
This definitely is an interesting What If scenario. Goku being made aware of Roshi due to Gohan being alive(without the presence of Gine) makes me feel what we are about to witness could be a What If of this is how DragonBall could have went down
Honestly I think it is great you are revisiting a few because as a creator you've really grown. You are more willing to take some chances like writing off future Trunks and having someone else come back! It truly shakes things up and you write great female characters as well! Never delete them though! It is always good to know where ya started. :)
So basically Goku is like Kevin from Kevin and Perry, and that is before he becomes a full teenager! Will be interesting to see if he can use the Nimbus or not given his current temperament. Seeing as that is an incredibly important bit of kit at this stage in the story.
It feels like this is gonna be the foil to "What if Goku Beat Roshi" instead of a happy kid slowly turned sour he's gonna be a proud Saiyan warrior with a heart of Gold....ok probably closer to Silver actually but you get my point.
Was honestly expecting this to be something like Dragonball Multiverse's Universe 13 Kakarot. Not that there's anything WRONG with Universe 13 Kakarot, in fact I actually quite like that take on Goku. But I really do like how you handled this, having Grandpa Gohan still alive and helping to temper Goku in some way!
Awesome! I haven’t watched the original version of the story that you told, but I’m interested to see how this version goes. It’ll be very interesting to see how certain story beats shift.
BTW, brilliant side to sparing Granpa here: Of course he didn't simply go out looking for Goku. Of course he moved more slowly to find him, and kept back just enough to avoid notice. This is not the sweet goofy kid of canon; this is somebody who, if startled, likely would attack, so keeping back from Oozaru wasn't just luck - it was caution against a kid he cared for but could never completely trust. Maybe he'll bond with this Kirillin over how he was bullied, but I'm not sure.
I love the potential of this story of how many ways this Goku could tackle scenarios and how he'll feel about his Saiyan heritage? Could he possibly want to revive his family? Either way the rivalry with vegeta will be way more intense!
This video is a good beginning to this story. I honestly hope Goku and Bulma develop a strong bond with each other. That one day may grow into love. Thanks Masako for redoing this.
Okay, this version of our little Space Carrot reminds me quite a bit of his father, Bardock. The adventures that await are bound to be absolutely astounding.
Oh man. I can't wait to see Goku meeting Roshi and Ox King. Gohan's old buddies are definitely going to get more respect than Bulma probably will. And she'll be SO NETTLED over this.
Masako, would you ever consider doing a What-If Tournament of Power? Another youtuber called Salad Saiyan did one, but you've been in the What-if game for way longer and probably have a bunch of powerful what-if fighters that could fill the tournament roster.
Well, let's consider BOTH Canon tellings of the event. Goku was relatively young when he had his head injury. Anyone who has amnesia of any kind will develop a different personality of some kind, I'm continually seeing it first hand. So Goku having the complete memory whipe makes total sense
I'm looking forward to seeing more of this; I'm also getting the feeling there's going to be a little mixture of another What If in here; a little bit of What If Goku married Bulma perhaps. I don't see Chi-Chi liking this version of Goku not being sweet and naïve, and I can see this Goku warming up to Bulma after some time and liking how they butt heads and how she stands up to him, and Bulma would warm up to him on the journey starting to admire his strength and his bad boyness
Love the new start. If Prince Vegeta could become an antihero, and eventually punch Beerus for hitting "His Bulma", then Goku wouldn't be evil for evil's sake. Without the Saiyan ship, he still wouldn't know his mission. My one Big note is that Bulma and Goku should get together in this story. Their attitudes towards each other are similar to Bluma and Post Namek Vegeta, He should also scare off Yamcha, Puar, and the other filler characters. I mean, he doesn't seem to have that innocent, forgiving vibe.
I like the idea of Goku being a sort tsundere where he begrudgingly respects people he spends a long time with while slowly coming to appreciate life. I mean, even Vegeta eventually came around to appreciating what he has. One thing's for sure, though. If Goku does stay, somewhat, on the straight and narrow, his rivalry with Vegeta will look much different than in canon.
Masako, I've got an idea for a what if! Its " What if the Ultra Divine Water unlocked Goku's Ikari Form (the one Broly used in DBS Broly)" It was hinted that the Oorazu was Goku's hidden power in the KIng Piccolo arc, so I'm wondering what would happen if Toriyama happen to get that idea early.
This is very interesting indeed. Intriguing. Don't know if Chi Chi is gonna like this version of Goku. I would suggest maybe fleshing out a reason why Kakarot takes up the name, Son Goku, and his struggle to master his strength and gain control of his destiny or something to that effect.
Can we get some more Vegeta stories?I feel like he needs some love in this channel and with your experience of what ifs now,the old Vegeta what ifs will be much better!!!keep up the good work Masako 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
This will be an interesting tale to revisit. One thing that occurred to me is that the gap between Goku and Roshi will be much smaller here, leading either to Goku eclipsing the Turtle Master well earlier than before or Roshi having the foresight to see this on the horizon and buckling down much like he did in Super pre ToP to bring himself up to scratch since Goku will require a lot more active guidance under a strong influence to keep him on a relatively moral path (as well as some kind of check against Goku’s more aggressive power creep in this tale). It won’t be like the original where everyone could more or less leave him to his own devices and just trust that Goku would pretty much raise himself in a righteous way. The supporting cast will be forced to grow with Goku, at least in the early years, especially Roshi, Krillin, and Tienshinhan. While it sounds like Goku isn’t going full villain here (or even the jerk he’s become in the WI where he defeats Jackie Chun), he’s still going to need to be kept in check somewhat if for no other reason than to keep him from getting bored and falling back on his Saiyan instincts to take over the planet. It’ll be interesting when this eventually gets to the Piccolo Daimyo arc since he has more or less the same ‘mission’ as Goku. Will he be swayed by the Demon King into joining his cause? Or will Goku’s moral compass be set in place enough to stand against him? Or will his Saiyan pride be enough to do that regardless? Or will Goku utterly waste Pilaf in the first arc, leaving Daimao stuck in the rice cooker (and the final arcs of DB completely stalled out?)
I like this, Goku benefits from the nurturing and is more balanced, rather than an evil savage or something. It's a good approach giving us a rowdier, but still good-natured Goku.
Either this will prep Bulma for dealing with Vegeta or once Goku becomes taller she will be interested in him. We all know chichi wouldn’t want a Goku that defends himself, and this Goku will most likely scare her away when they first meet each other. So I guess happy ending.
Yamcha could just be with Chichi, let’s be honest he’s everything she wants a man to be, submissive, quit fighting for a high paying career (even though she will spend the money faster than he’s making it, and will blame him for it.), also for some reason Gohan in dbz had Yamcha’s hairstyle so you wouldn’t even need to change his design. (Seems like Chichi had some interest in him if his kid’s hairstyle is based off of him.)
I absolutely adore your What if videos. Nevertheless I would like them to have more production into them, by that I mean maybe some avatars or backgrounds. I love your voices!
I’m so intrigued by this I had this idea and never thought you did it already 😅 i guess all minds at least all around the world of what if’s that at least a lot of us thought of this
I didn't mind the original version too much, but this certainly has more potential to be an epic saga than "Goku's savage and gets humiliated" Will be fun to see if this Goku and Bulma pair up as well, since Goku will be more in touch with his Saiyan instincts
Hey Masako, I’ve been a massive fan of yours for years but have never had the chance to attend a live stream for your what if sessions, so I’ll submit mine now, what if kami was in reality the evil half of the nameless namekian
