What if Hebrew Roots is True? (A thought experiment)

Defending the Biblical Roots of Christianity

Let's consider Torahism (aka Hebrew Roots) from a different angle. We're going to show you how this belief system falls short both logically and historically by way of a thought experiment. For the sake of argument, we’re going to assume that Torahism is true and that followers of Jesus are obligated to keep the Old Covenant law and that not doing so is sinful and disobedient. And we are going to see where that assumption takes us.

My wife converted to Judaism about 5 years ago. She was a professing Christian when we were married but then started looking into Hebrew Roots at the behest of my stepson who was dabbling in Torahism. He backed out of Torahism but she did not and soon she declared Christianity and even Christ as false teachings. I would say it has had a significant negative effect on our marriage.

I’m adding this comment because I was involved with a Torah observant group here in South Carolina for over one year. I’m not happy to say this but I detect a slight hint of arrogance amongst these people. Not that they brag, but they look at main stream Christianity/theologians, with the idea that many are called, yet few are chosen, and they believe that they are chosen. They have an idea as if since the Bible says that the way is narrow, and only a few people find it, well, they believe that they are the few that “found” it.

I've been to various denominational churches (particularly "oneness" apostolic & Church of Christ) who believe they've got a lock on salvation due to some particular doctrine they believe they've gotten exclusively right & everyone else has gotten flagrantly wrong. It seems to be the insecure human's desire to elevate oneself at the expense of others?

@@rayray4192The ignorance and willful blindness of some people baffles me. So, if HRM is a demonic cult, why then, during the Millennium, all nations will keep the feast of Tabernacles? This feast is in the Torah, isn't it? Zechariah 14:16 KJV And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. And, when Yeshua is reigning as King of the whole world, during the Millennium, he will be teaching himself...wait for it, the Law of Moses. Isaiah 2:3 kjv And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. The last time I checked, the sky and the earth were still here. Hence, the Law of Moses must still be valid. Jesus also gave a warning about ascribing a work of God to the devil. Let me give you a hint; it has to do with being in danger of eternal damnation. If you don't understand something, best advice: either do some research about it from the Scriptures. If not, just leave it alone and keep doing what you're doing. Peace.

Christ is the Word of God… How do you abide in Christ if you don’t abide in the Word of God Man shall not live by bread alone but EVERY WORD FROM MY FATHERS MOUTH !! ( emphasis only ) Jhn 5:46 For if you were believing Moses, you would believe Me-because he wrote about Me. Mat 23:3 So whatever they tell you, do and observe. But don’t do what they do; for what they say, they do not do. Act 15:19 Therefore, I judge not to trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God- Act 15:20 but to write to them to abstain from the contamination of idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what is strangled, and from blood. Act 15:21 For Moses from ancient generations has had in every city those who proclaim him, since he is read in all the synagogues every Shabbat.” 1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, long for pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow toward salvation- 1Pe 2:3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1Pe 2:7 Now the value is for you who keep trusting; but for those who do not trust, “The stone which the builders rejected-this One has become the chief cornerstone,” 1Pe 2:8 and “a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they are disobeying the word-to this they were also appointed. Psa 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting souls: the testimony of the Lord is faithful, instructing babes. Rom 3:30 Since God is One, He will set right the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. Rom 3:31 Do we then nullify the Torah through faithfulness? May it never be! If I might add one other comment, having been involved with a Hebrew roots group here in South Carolina previously, they do not speak accurately about those who disagree with them. They have asked me not to share videos such as this with them, and have made in accurate comments that these type videos are coming from people who “do not believe the Old Testament“! This is so far off the rails! Rob, myself, and most of Christianity definitely believe the Old Testament, we believe that it points to the coming Messiah! These Hebrew roots people, they believe that all of the rest of the Christians going to church on Sunday are in disobedience to God. They do not like to be challenged, they do not like to be questioned and when I question them, they will not answer. And I definitely asked some blunt questions such as, if you do honestly believe that the Christians going to church on Sunday are disobeying God, then why don’t you get out there on the sidewalk and protest and warn them??

He already warned us himself not to go the way of the heathen. You don't worship God the way you like you do it the way he says. This is so good. These are the same issues I bring up when discussing this with HR adherents. History is just not on their side. If you REALLY think the apostles taught this, then why dont you see any of their immediate successors teaching it? I mean, as early as Ignatius (who was taught by John) you see him chiding the keeping of Jewish customs: “Be not deceived with strange doctrines, nor with old fables, which are unprofitable. For if we still live according to the Jewish law, we acknowledge that we have not received grace.” - Ignatius, letter to the Magnesians, letter 8.

Intelligence is definitely something people look at; however, revelation from God and seeing the power of God when spreading the gospel is key. The torah movement does not have the power of God in their message. The people the torahist proselytize are Christians rather than those who don't know Jesus. I know this from first hand experience dealing with them
@kimartist
@kimartist 7 месяцев назад
Interesting too that Jews don't proselytize & in fact, not outright, but subtly discourage conversion to Judaism, because they know it's a tough row to hoe & only want sincere converts. (Most conversions are due to marriage - i.e. one spouse who is highly motivated to please the other & make sure their children get a consistent spiritual message & culture.) Torahists on the other hand do everything they can to beg, borrow & browbeat (Christian) converts to their form of Judaism. I've seen one dude who with one hand dangles the "blessings" of Sabbath keeping (as if that's all there is to Torah observance) complete with rapturous descriptions of how wonderful & filled with ease & comfort his life has become (when Jesus said we would have trials, trouble & persecution), while at the same time threatening hellfire for not immediately complying with his way of thinking. It's all performance based & the lack of love & compassion for their fellow man is glaringly obvious.

Thanks, Isac! I teach and believe that obedience is God’s “love language.” Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). And I'm sure you would agree that not every command that God has given applies to every person at all times. Some of His commands only apply to certain people (i.e., men, women, parents, Levitical priests) or for certain times (i.e., building an ark, gathering manna, while in exile). And I'm sure you would also agree that we are each only expected to keep the commands of God that apply to us. The NT teaches that the ceremonial commands given under the Law of the Sinai Covenant do not apply to Christians today. (ex. Repeated blood sacrifices for sin are no longer required (Heb 10:18).) We still serve God and obey His commands, “But now we are released from the law, having died with Christ to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code” (Rom 7:6). So if you want to put a classification of "law" on it, Christians follow the Law of Christ. Blessings, Rob

Christians don’t follow Judaism today because the Mosaic covenant has been fulfilled in Jesus. Paul said, “If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law” Peter said the yoke of Moses was a burden that Jewish people were not able to keep. Compare that with Matt 11:28-30

After some really engaging conversations with a sweet Torah keeper, I dug deeper and found your RU-vid channel. I am so glad this channel exists, because the things the Torah keeping believers say sound so believable and it would really be easy to walk down that path if a person didn't know their Bible very well. In fact, I was starting to question a few things myself about my own faith. What those conversations did spark inside me though, is a desire to get to know the roots of my own faith and to start looking into the background of the reformation and some of the early Protestant Christians.

I love these various thought experiment posts and videos. In talking to my Messianic rabbi friend, I had an insight myself of the double mindedness of things if Hebrew roots were true. You would have the apostles working on two simultaneous projects, namely establishing their own Messianic congregation, while at the same time trying to reform the old Jews. And that presents a problem that there is only suppose to be one Body of Christ, not parallel congregations and bodies. Christianity is supposed to be new wine skin, covenant etc. not a greased up wine skin.

Paul's wrote true scriptural teachings and if you do a thorough study you will conclude that christianity have been wrongly taught. I blame this on Roman religious leaders and the Greek who translated words and verses to make it appear like it means something else; ultimately distorting the scriptures to suit what they wanted to teach and make one to believe and teach. Theologians have adapted to their teachings and Robert Solberg is one of them. Here is an ex: i am not denying the deity of Yeshua but show me where in the scripture did God address Yeshua as God. Ask Robert Solberg that question, and in his response to you I will allow the scriptures to refute him showing that he has no understanding of scriptural truth.

Paul is definitely a stumbling block for Torahists as he continually & eloquently & even deliberately in Romans & Galatians (& Hebrews if you believe Paul wrote it), describes living a Christian life sans Torah observance. In their eagerness to explain away difficulties by saying everything was mistranslated &/or misinterpreted, I have not seen Torahists address Paul's specific cursing of Torahists in Galatians 1 : 8 & 9 and his verbal castration of same in Galatians 5 : 12. When you sit down & read Galatians cover to cover (instead of cherry picking favorite verses & twisting), you see a blazing red hot indictment of Torahism. Paul was not playing around. He hated this false gospel as it neutralized his Lord Jesus' sacrificial work on the cross & brought all faith in Him to naught.

Hi Austin! I typically respond by paraphrasing Augustine: If you believe what you like in the Bible, and reject what you don't like, it is not the Bible you believe, but yourself. Personally, I find the argument that Paul should be minimized (or removed) insufferably arrogant. To make such a statement, one needs to place themselves in a position of authority over Scripture. Well…. Isn’t one reason the tribes were shattered was to bring in the gentiles? Other than the obvious rebellion towards Gods ways. I’ve heard people claim they are the lost tribes, but with all the scattering and mixing amongst the gentiles without a dna test to prove it there is no validity. I don’t see everyone in the Torah movement claiming these claims. It’s been thousands of years of intermingling, the tribes are lost. Which is fine because there is no Jew or Greek, we are all grafted into the vine if your heart is circumcised to the Father and Son.

I just finished my RCC study. Went down that dirty rabbit hole. My neighbor is catholic and is way out there with the RCC version of church fathers, when the RCC church was established and all the rituals & sacraments they created. I feel so soiled after that. I can't get thru to them, their devotion to the RCC is obviously greater than that to the FATHER, They have no relationship with Jesus Christ & everytime their priest comes to visit they get bolder in their zeal to try to convert me. These Hebrew Roots people too, it's just too greasy for me, I'm soaked in disgust that they are so easily decieved. I try hard to find compassion but I've spent too much time in the middle east up front close to Muslims. I have seen the Spirit in palestinians, you can see it come alive as the eyes turn almost red with their hate & there ain't no getting through to them. Today, I see the same in most liberals & democrats & their religion of tolerance & deviancies.

Acts 15 But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, “It is necessary to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses.” The apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter. And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus just as they will.

Unfortunately a lot of HR people miss grace. All sin is covered by the blood. Never underestimate the power of the death and resurrection. Unfortunately mainstream Christian’s miss the instructions and the beauty of the law. A lot of your points have a lot of holes in it my brother. Polycarp said that he does everything John does including observing sabbath and specifically Passover.(just to name one early church fathers) The Bible is full of references that point to the law still being truth and binding. Including Pauls letters. The curse of the law is condemnation and death. This is clearly done away with by the death and resurrection of Jesus. The law is instruction for how one is to live as a priests and kings. Not to toot your horn and think of yourselves as better than another. Obedience is worship. Here’s a theory, if I’m right and the law is still binding. Everyone is under grace and the blood covers your sin. If I’m wrong I’m still covered by the blood as long as you don’t see your works as salvation. This point is made very clearly by paul. And everything I do is filthy compared to the glory of God one way or another. How about we all just get along…… one thing before I shut up, read the Bible with fresh eyes and fresh heart every time you pick it up. Test everything, and be slow to judge the man next to you. We are all on the path of sanctification and let’s not put stumbling blocks in front of each other. Can I get a hallelujah please?!

I would like to add, as a possible reason why the Hebrew Roots is still among us. It started after Jesus resurrection, the soldiers who guarded the tomb were paid to say "His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept." Matthew 28:13-15. The connection requires a little bit of meditation. One other thing I would like to address, that is that Jewish believers do still observe Torah according to the Jerusalem council of Elders. And according to the same council, Gentile believers need not observe any such thing, only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. Acts 15. And Acts 21. Besides that "we are not under law but under grace." Romans 6:14-18

I think a major aspect of biblical content that gets overlooked by Torahism is that there is more than one covenant in the Torah, and in the Tenakh. The Torah includes the covenant to Abraham, which speaks of many nations, whereas the covenant at Sinai is with one nation. The Apostle Paul makes a big deal out of the Abrahamic covenant, and how the faith of Abraham preceded circumcision, and how the law of Sinai would not supplant the covenant with Abraham (Gal 3.17). Then we also see the New Covenant spoken of in the Torah in Deuteronomy 30.6. Deut. 18.14-19 speaks of one who would come after Moses, and would be a new revelation unlike the scary voice they heard at Sinai. This new prophet and something to replace Sinai's voice implies that there would also be a new covenant when the Prophet who bears the Name would appear to them and speak to them, and that him they must heed. We also read that in their understanding a covenant ceases with the death of the testator, and we read that Jesus died, and that before he died he instituted a new covenant in his blood. These are all pieces of biblical content that are positive evidence that the law given at Sinai was not meant for all time, nor for all people. There is at least one extra-Sinai covenant in the Tenakh after the end of the Torah, which is the covenant with David. The prophets speak of a new covenant, but they seem to be elaborating on what had already been revealed through Moses in Deut. 30.6. The new covenant is a way of separating God's people from the others, and conforming the character of God's people to the character of the Father, which both seem to be the major thrusts of the Sinai covenant, that is, "This is who your God is, and what He values, therefore this is who you will be, and what you will value." The goal of separating apart a people to be like YHWH is accomplished differently in the New Covenant (Eph. 5.1) , and much more effectively, but it was the same goal that was seen in a shadowy way in the covenant at Sinai. Sinai was a different context, but the same God. The New Covenant is a universal context, and the same God. I find a significant difference between the wording "You will not kill" from the common wording we see "Do not kill." The future tense is not a prediction so much as an expectation, a family obligation towards their god and father, who they will be in light of who their God is. The command with the wording "Do not kill" frames it in a non-relational way, that sounds more authoritarian, demanding, and burdensome. The future tense inspires a sense of belonging and comfort, knowing that the God is the patron who will look after them in unity and loyal faithful compassion. The command form inspires a sense of dread and fear, with the threat of guilt and punishment, and somebody bigger than you who will make you do what they want, or else. The future tense speaks of a selfless God, whereas the command form makes God seem selfish. The future tense speaks in a shame culture mentality, where to not behave that way brings shame, whereas the command form brings guilt for not obeying. The Sinai covenant beyond the ten commandments does not always have the future tense, if I remember correctly, and the ten commandments are not all phrased in the future tense (remember the sabbath, honor your parents). In the NIV, Exodus 20.3-4 are "You shall not" but verse 23 has two "do not's". There is a difference. The main covenant seems to be the Decalogue with God stating who he is. (He is not the God who brought the Gentiles out of Egypt, but he is the God who brought Israel out of Egypt.) Then the many other commands seem to be precepts derived from the Decalogue that Moses or later editors worked out in their legal system for how their nation should function in light of their being God's people in that context.

I might only add that not only does a testator have to die in order to end (or complete) his covenant (or will), he also needs to die before his inheritors can inherit. TO seem bound & determined to return all of humanity to a doomed pre-cross state, where no one can inherit anything, because the Testator (Christ) didn't die, His covenant (will) didn't cease (complete) & therefore animals must still be continually sacrificed in a non-existent Temple for the temporary atonement of sins ad infinitum (which is as ridiculous as it is impossible).

For me, a brother or sister in Christ is someone who has come to a genuine faith in Jesus as their Lord and believes that God raised Him from the dead. Brothers and sisters don't have to agree on every bit of theology, but we need to agree on the Gospel of Jesus. And the heterodox nature of Sean's teaching is so concerning to me that I am not sure that he is a brother in Christ. Shalom, Rob

Right, if Hebrew Roots theology (or rather bunch of theologies) is true, then it means the gates of hell managed to prevail over the Church, which clearly contradicts Jesus's words in Mat 16:18. Yes, theologies in Eastern Orthodoxy, Catholicism and conservative Protestantism may differ on some substantial questions, but nonetheless they all have common core beliefs and can share the basic creeds, which HRM theologies openly oppose.

@@anonymom_ There is some deference to the old sabbath in traditional Christianity. This is where we get the weekend from that is the old Sabbath together with the Lord's day. You will not however find anything like Seventh Day Adventism in the ancient Church. Ignatius of Antioch is quite explicit when it comes to Christians not being under the Jewish law, including the Sabbath. As an Eastern Christian I got some deference to the Sabbath, but believe the 8th day, the day of the Resurrection, and the giving of Holy Spirit to the Church at Pentecost is superior to it and this is the proper day to have a main Eucharistic church service.

First of all, the "old" covenant is the EXACT same thing as the "new" covenant instruction. The ONLY difference is the disposition of sin. As it is, I've just started watching. I'll be back, with notes, after this vid. The speaker talks about misapplication of Scripture and misinterpretting the same. There are well over fifty places in both the Tanakh and the B'rit Chadashah were Xtians pervert Scripture, and it's easily shown.

What some do, is they just toss out Paul, many of them. I've been involved in many Torah groups but NEVER felt led to toss out Paul. Spiritually I always knew, praises to the Most High, that was very VERY dangerous ground. I'm studying Acts, Galatians and Romans so much more now and am seeing the error of observing the Mosaic Law. Actually Luke 22:20 TOTALLY jumps off the pages of scripture now. Still relearning what I relearnt... I'm now trying to figure out how to make changes since ive been, for example doing Sabbath on Saturdays and not working on that day, doing the feast days, wearing tzit tzit...not that i did those things "to be saved" but was doing them BECAUSE i was saved and believed i should be doing them. I also see the errors in so many Sunday churches, with the hyper greasy grace, that it's difficult to know what i should be doing...I know i am trusting in Messiah only for salvation, but now i feel slightly lost as to what to do. All of my associations, especially online, are ALL Torah based. My husband has come to the same conclusion, thankfully before me and we're studying together, but it is not easy. I'm wondering if i was brainwashed...has this happened to anyone else? I'm wondering if there's any support groups? I won't bash Torah because its a "tutor" but also want to do what's right in the eyes of the Almighty.

I’ve watched this video laboriously over the past three days. I’ve come up with 45 points of contention, but I could have easily come up with over sixty. The speaker’s word games he plays are astonishingly infantile, but I guess that’s because of who it’s directed at those who subscribe to his channel. It’s the only reasonable answer I can come up with. AND I do not mean that as an ad hominem attack, either. He finishes with a statement about making comments, and it appears he might get to them, but probably not. He also ends the video with the word “Shalom,” which, since he did not mention anything else in Hebrew during this video, I can only take it as a mocking finish. One glaring problem with this video is its lack of Scriptural support. I had so many passages in my notes, but I realize that most people who grab a hold of this sort of thing are into fast-food spirituality, so they are not prone to listen to anything longer than 30 seconds. The speaker’s idea of using a “thought experiment” just goes off the deep end with so many of the broad questions he asks to impugn other people’s thoughts, ideas, concepts, and standings. I began to laugh at the video when the speaker mentioned “Torahism.” My mind immediately went to Catholicism, Protestantism, Mormonism, Anomianism (which they all take part in), and Dispensationalism, along with others, but I digress. I’ll get right to the meat of my jibber-jabbering. The speaker erroneously concludes that there is nothing written about the Xtian church against Torah-observant people. I only have to mention one word - POGROM. I’ll leave it to others who actually care about the matter to go out and see for their self how many times the “church” (remember Spain? How about England in the 1100s. The Russians in the 1800-1900s) actually took part in terrorizing and killing millions of Torah-observant people (and not just the Jews). So often, the Xtian organizations took on tacit approval of what was done to the Jews, and, much to the contrary of the speaker’s claim that nothing was ever written about the Xtian church taking part against Torah-observant people can clearly be seen to be in error. Show me, in Scripture, where the resurrection was to have taken place on the first Sunday, after the first full moon, after the spring equinox. You won’t find it. It’s a creation of paganistic infusion brought about by the Roman Catholic Church (RCC). This is just a hint of where Xtianity has removed matters of Torah and replaced them with their traditions. I’ll briefly get to Halachot, Minhagim, Takanot, Gezerot, and Ma’asim. Show me, in Scripture, when the Messiah was born. His birth has nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas. “Mass” in the RCC means “death” or “departure.” The shortest day of the year is Dec. 21/22. The day Sol Invictus appears in the sky for the least amount of time. Three days later, the Messiah was said to have been born. Ask any of your Wiccan friends about this. They’ll be glad to enlighten you about where this came from. As it is, do a study both on Passover (Pesach) and Sukkot, and you’ll get your unequivocal answer to this question. Shabbat was changed on whose authority? There is nothing in Scripture about this, but, there is a WHOLE LOT to support the truth that Shabbat has not been done away with in Scripture. I can probably speak to this under another one of the speakers’ posts. If you want to look further into it, go here: www.biblesabbath.org/confessions.html I mentioned Halachot, Minhagim, Takanot, Gezerot, and Ma’asim, just above. What are the Xtian versions of those things? As regards how so many geniuses were clueless about Scripture, one only needs to understand the concept shown in Is. 29:10-14 and for Israel in Jer. 16:14-19. One only needs look at the news for the latter reference. Faithful and obedient Israel says, “Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit.” Again, look at the Xtian version of Halachot, Minhagim, Takanot, Gezerot, and Ma’asim. There is just so much more that I could cover, but I’ll end it here by asking the speaker to make a video regarding his take on the following: What does the following mean? “…And we know that the Torah is good if one uses it legitimately…” (I Tim 1:8) See also Romans 7:10, 12-14, 16, 22; Romans 8:3-8 (Please, remember Romans 7:14). If one is not in the Spirit, which is Torah, then one is in the flesh. What does the following mean? “For not the hearers of the Torah are righteous in the sight of Elohim, but the doers of the Torah shall be declared right.” (Romans 2:13) See also Mt. 7:21-27, with special emphasis on what the word “lawlessness” means, Scripturally, and James 2:14-24. Finally, what does the following mean? “Do we nullify the Torah through faith? Let it not be! On the contrary, we ESTABLISH THE TORAH.” (Romans 3:31) See also Romans 7:12. I’ll be moving on to the next of this speaker’s videos, as they appear to be easily disassembled. I don't really expect any sort of answer to any of these things. Onward I go!

As far as the Conspiracy theory goes I have mentioned something I learned in psychology that people tend to reinterpret the past in light of the present. And on this topic, Torahist and Hebrew roots tend to interpret Church history with the jaundiced eye of what happened with the Holocaust, the Spanish Inquisition etc. which is much different that what happened in ancient times. Not only that we actually see the opposite namely ani-gentilism in Judaism, especially in the work of the Talmud, but you can see a little prejudice in the New Testament where folks were afraid to eat with gentiles because of the kosher customs. I really believe there is a kind of tit for tat animosity that developed Between Christianity and Judiasm that came over persecution and rivalry. Christianity of course came out on top which is why things are framed as they are, but in the early centuries this would be a bit like a Jacob and Esau sibling rivalry.

Hi, Bouncer!

I guess with the last theory I end up speaking about the history of the Judaizer movement in classical times talking about the Judaizers and Ebionites and compare them to what is going down today. One scriptural truth these Torahists forget is the Biblical principle of things being "In the mouth of two or three witnesses" and the Orthodox position is established aplenty by early witnesses ones that were mentored by the Apostles etc. Meanwhile, people teaching against this need to try to claim their own authority, and this violates other Biblical principles, the sheep are suppose to know the shepherd while these people are unknown, self-promoting etc. But on the positive side of things I do show the "Jewish roots" of Christianity in the Eucharist service, and show how that reflects both the temple and synagogue worship, as well as Passover etc.

Jhn 5:47 But since you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” Mat 23:1 Then Yeshua spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, Mat 23:2 saying, “The Torah scholars and Pharisees sit on the seat of Moses. On the contrary, we uphold the Torah. Shalom

@ShiaDiscourse- We're evidently reading different Bible's. The Old Covenant had blessings and curses. We all like the idea of blessings, but we ignore the courses promised for breaking the binding Ketubah. Those curses were just as promised as the blessings. To save Israel from the utter destruction promised for disobedience, a New Covenant had to be made and one of the testators of the Old Covenant had to die free Israel (the wife) from the Old Covenant and the curses promised for violating it. God the testator died as Yeshua and a New Covenant was established through which Israel could be saved. All who chose to be redeemed could enter freely into the New Covenant but those who refused suffered the penalty promised under the Old.

We only keep the laws (I prefer "guidelines") that are reiterated in the New Testament. Effectively, we put aside *all* of the Old Testament, including the Decalogue. The mistake people make is to think that the reiteration of some of the laws means a continuation of the Old. The new testament laws (guidelines) are stated in the New Testament: they are that we believe in Jesus, express self-sacrificial love one for the other, get baptised, lay off sin (sexual misbehaviour, greed, witchcraft, idolatry, gluttony, dishonesty), pray to and worship God with uplifted hands and thanksgiving, seek spiritual gifts, and fellowship with other believers, including the sharing of a meal of bread and wine, and profess our faith and baptise others in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Regarding food, don't eat meat with the blood of the animal in it. That's about it. It's harder than it seems since it involves actually living and hearing from God in a daily basis. I hope this helps. God bless you!

Also DA Carson agrees with you about what "the Law and the Prophets" means: "Jesus’ mission was not to “abolish” (a term more frequently connected with the destruction of buildings [24:2; 26:61; 27:40], but not exclusively so [e.g., 2 Macc 2:22]) “the Law or the Prophets.” By these words Matthew forms a new inclusio (5:17-7:12), which marks out the body of the sermon and shows that Jesus is taking pains to relate his teaching and place in the history of redemption to the OT Scriptures. For that is what “the Law or the Prophets” here means-the Scriptures. The disjunctive “or” makes it clear that neither is to be abolished. The Jews of Jesus’ day could refer to the Scriptures as “the Law and the Prophets” (7:12; 11:13; 22:40; Lk 16:16; Jn 1:45; Ac 13:15; 28:23; Ro 3:21); “the Law ..., the Prophets and the Psalms” (Lk 24:44); or just “the Law” (v.18; Jn 10:34; 12:34; 15:25; 1Co 14:21); the divisions were not yet stereotyped. Thus even if “or the Prophets” is redactional (Dalman, Jesus-Jeshua, 62, and many after him), the referent does not change when only law is mentioned in v.18, but it may be a small hint that law also has a prophetic function..." - DA Carson, Matthew: The Expositors Bible Commentary, 2017

It’s not an obligation. Think like a father and you’re telling your kids what to do. You tell one kid to take out the garbage and they enthusiastically do it run back in and give you a hug and kiss saying thank you for giving me a task that will please you. I love you, daddy. Then the other kid Says all man why do I have to do this? This is so dumb and quite reluctantly does it with much venom. It’s all in the attitude. God wants us to want to keep this command if we don’t want to want to keep it then we don’t. However, if that kid doesn’t take out the garbage eventually, the house will start to stink. The blessing here is a clean house. The curse here is a stinky house somewhere with a command of not putting your hand on a hot cold because you will be cursed by the pain, all is blessings and curses and God outwardly wants to give you all the blessings he can and it’s up to us to decide to take them.

Hallo Professor Solberg, I always like watching your videos even though I don’t always agree with your conclusions. I also like watching Rabbi Tovia Singer who I agree with much he says but also don’t agree with his conclusions. I believe you both are right on many issues and wrong at the same time. Anyway, let me respond to your video: 1. Corruption: we know that New Testament scriptures were corrupted. For example ancient manuscripts and writings of the church fathers do point towards the baptism being the major event that made Jesus the son of God and not the nativity stories. Also the gospel and Hebrews writers and Paul often misquote passages from the TeNaCh or take them out of context to make them confirm their theology. 2. Error: All the giants of faith throughout history were concerned with other issues mostly than to verify the New Testament against the Hebrew Scriptures 3. Conspiracy: who benefits? All Bishops and Christians who wanted the persecution to stop. Legalising Christianity in the Roman Empire was a big motivational factor to make it more Roman friendly and elevate the status of Jesus so he would be accepted worthy of following in a Hellenistic World. Compromises that the church might have deemed beneficial for the Christians in general. Like Christians today celebrate Easter and Christmas, compromising to not offend the world for no beneficiaries reason. And why not blame the Jews if it helps to stop Christian persecution. They were an easy scapegoat. And let’s make Pilate a saint.

I greatly appreciate Dr Solberg’s work. I believe he presents data in a Christian manner, much as Jesus did with the woman at the well. Hence the reason I subscribe to his channel and follow his work. However, I do not agree with a number of assertions in this video. I am pronomian, but I tend to agree more with Dr Roy Gane and his approach to the Law under the New Covenant. He applies the Law using in his words the Progressive Moral Wisdom approach. His thesis seems to best fit the teachings of Jesus and the apostles as pertaining to the function of the Law in a New Covenant relationship. The Law is applied post theocratic Israel, post temple, in the light of Christ’s application of the Law and its process and function in modern life. Finally, many theologians have documented a great apostasy within the mainstream church as predicted by Paul. (2 Thes. 2). I do believe there was a purpose to the reformation. The true concept of salvation was for the most part lost by the church. The church had to rediscover salvation by grace alone. Also, Dr Bacchiocchi’s seminal work from Sabbath to Sunday demonstrated how various aspects of the Law were systematically removed from the New Covenant understanding within the church. Again, I don’t agree with everything the Hebrew roots brings to the table, but I do believe that mainstream Christianity has gotten drawn into a mindset that conforms more to the world than the Christ centered life Jesus wanted for us as we walk with Him. Blessings in the New Year.

Thanks, Viking! Gane's Progressive Moral Wisdom approach is very similar to my Principle & Expression Framework. (Which you can read about it in my book _Torahism._ It's also explained here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YqpcV0AGPPM.html.) Both approaches argue that the principles given under the Old Covenant law persist, but we are not legally obligated to keep the commands as they were given to the ancient Israelites. Gane says the "OT laws reveal wise and enduring values and principles, even when certain laws do not directly apply to us today" (Old Testament Law for Christians, p. xiv). And he adds, "There must be indirect ways in which even laws that are not directly applicable to us are ‘profitable’ for guiding and equipping the people of God, filling gaps in our wisdom regarding how to live” (Ibid., p. 142). And I certainly agree! Blessings, Rob

This is the approach I teach in my studies, but your diagram makes it much more intuitive than my presentations. I have added your book, Torahism, to my library. I look forward to reading it. Rob, they are not going to abandon their errors. They are committed, especially given the element of human pride. Works-based salvation hinges exclusively on human pride for efforts. Nobody likes admitting that they were so very wrong in their theology. The exhaustive and pathetic excuses they offer for their lack of a temple as the reason for their lack in obedience when they could have long ago constructed a tent tabernacle to continue the blood sacrifices as the Law demanded, they have no excuse for their hypocrisies. I'm not trying to be ungracious here, but there comes a time when the gauntlet must be cast down to show where the error lies. The discretization of Paul as a legitimate apostle is so very laughable, given Acts 15. They would have to build a case that the counsel of apostles was far too corrupt for them to have willingly given audience to Paul.

@ShiaDiscourse And where is that stated in scripture? I don't recall any command anywhere that the tent tabernacle was never to be revived again, other than it being David himself who quipped that it wasn't right in his own eyes that he dwell in a palace while the Lord's earthly presence be in a tent. What you're saying seems to make for a very convenient slight-of-hand excuse for justifying the hypocrisy of the Judaizers. 1 Chronicles 28:2 Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: [As for me], I [had] in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:

I hear you! But I believe I am called to play the long game. As mother Theresa famously said "God has not called me to be successful; He has called me to be faithful." I am no Mother Theresa, to be sure! But I will continue to teach the Biblical truth (as best I can as a flawed and limited man), and keep praying for those caught up in spiritual slavery, and trust God with the results. Shalom! Rob

@ShiaDiscourse Whatever your name is, it is YOU who needs to learn history! David is the one who collected the majority of the building materials for that temple that Solomon built due to the blood on the hands of David from all his unauthorized killing sprees. It is DAVID who made the decision for that temple to be built. As an Israeli, I know good and well what the TRUTH of the matter is! I have grave doubts that your arm-chair scholarship will ever save face for you on this mix-up of yours!

Rob, this is a fantastic video, laying out a very well done though experiment. I have several "Hebrew Roots friends whom I love and may share with them for our discussion and edification. As an Orthodox Christian, I was happy to see deference paid to the Fathers of our faith. The only suggestion I would make would be to point out that it is not merely that there were many brilliant thinkers/intellectuals/theologians. These saints: St. Ignatius, St. Polycarp, St. Irenaeus, St. Augustine, etc. were all either bishops, priests, or monks. (Note. Neither Tertullian nor Origen are honored as saints, but their writings are read and valued, much like Eusebius). These were not mere academics, as great as that is, but were men primarily of prayer, and who led their flocks in the worship of God (for the priests and bishops). To even be counted as a true theologian in the Orthodox church, you must be wholly enveloped in the prayer of the church and in communion with God. So, on that point, it is clear that since the Torah-observant movement is mostly a novel intellectual/interpretive theory rather than revelation pouring forth as a result of participating in the sacramental/prayerful/liturgical life of the Church, it is like every other heresy, in that it rearranges God's revelation to fit a theory, and thus they part ways from the Church and her rich life of communion with God. As St. Irenaeus puts it "By transferring passages, and dressing them up anew, and making one thing out of another, they succeed in deluding many through their wicked art in adapting the oracles of the Lord to their opinions. Their manner of acting is just as if one, when a beautiful image of a king has been constructed by some skilful artist out of precious jewels, should then take this likeness of the man all to pieces, should rearrange the gems, and so fit them together as to make them into the form of a dog or of a fox, and even that but poorly executed; and should then maintain and declare that this was the beautiful image of the king which the skilful artist constructed, pointing to the jewels which had been admirably fitted together by the first artist to form the image of the king, but have been with bad effect transferred by the latter one to the shape of a dog, and by thus exhibiting the jewels, should deceive the ignorant who had no conception what a king's form was like, and persuade them that that miserable likeness of the fox was, in fact, the beautiful image of the king. In like manner do these persons patch together old wives' fables, and then endeavour, by violently drawing away from their proper connection, words, expressions, and parables whenever found, to adapt the oracles of God to their baseless fictions" (Against Heresies 1.8). To your point that it is essentially the height of arrogance to think that we have finally got it right after all this time, I whole heartedly agree. That led me to leave Protestantism and embrace Holy Orthodoxy. The same conclusions you make in your video can be applied more widely to Church history, especially to the Reformation. Thanks for the video!

Holy means set apart, the day isnt holy in the same sense as God is HOLY, Saturday or any day of the week is not HOLY as God is HOLY. One problem we do have today is gentile judaizers and its kinda ironic, but hey we're in the last days. The moral law is eternal, but only because sin is present do we need it. Once sin is done away with and it will be done away with also so will the LAW. Because where there is no sin there is no law

Cain and Abel knew to bring offering/sacrifice to YHVH Genesis 4:3-5 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. Noah knew the difference between clean and unclean animals. Genesis 7:2-3 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth. And Abraham was accounted righteous because of his obedience. Genesis 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my COMMANDMENTS, my STATUTES, and my LAWS. hmmmm…all this before Jacob was even born.

Hi, Joel! Technically this is not an argument from authority because I was not asserting that the mere fact that mainstream Christianity agrees on one particular issue makes mainstream Christianity correct. If anything, it’s an appeal to consensus. I said as much in the video: "We have to admit that all these great thinkers were fallible human beings. As brilliant as they were, they were still capable of making mistakes, just like anybody else. And just because they all agree with each other on this issue doesn’t necessarily mean they were all right. And their writings certainly don’t rise to the level of inspired Scripture. But guess what? Modern Hebrew Roots teachers are just as fallible and just as capable of making mistakes and being wrong. And just because Torah-observant Christians all agree with each other on this issue doesn’t mean they’re right." Shalom, RLS

The main thing you say here is should i be obedient to God and Yeshua who is Gods word made fresh or should i listen to you and all these people you listed over whst he says... ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:1‭-‬3‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ [1] Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, [2] saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; [3] therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. Yeshua said go every sabbath listen to Moses and do what he says!!!.. The rich man and the poor man.. ‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:30‭-‬31‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ [30] But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ [31] But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ” Out of love i humbly try to obey prsyijg with ny head down look at me YWHW the sinner that i am.. where you here are sayijg and allways say look at me im so much better than the other side. Im glad im not like them... love your neighbour as yourself.. how about instead of bickering like you do you walk out the love that was taught..
@TheBiblicalRoots
@TheBiblicalRoots 7 месяцев назад
Respectfully, Ben, that is not the main point of this video. As far as who to obey, I teach and believe that obedience is God’s “love language.” Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

@@TheBiblicalRoots I get thats not the main point of this video (that is to say look all these people that want to keep Gods commandments beause they love him are wrong and this Is why) ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37‭-‬40‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ [37] And He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ [38] This is the great and foremost commandment. [39] The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ [40] On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” Here Yeshua is saying quoting from torah ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6:4‭-‬9‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ [4] “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! [5] You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. [6] These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. [7] You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. [8] You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. [9] You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭19:18‭-‬19‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ [18] You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord. [19] ‘You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together. (And alot of other places) ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭31:31‭-‬34‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ [31] “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, [32] not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. [33] “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. [34] They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:15‭-‬18‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ [15] And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, [16] “This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws upon their heart, And on their mind I will write them,” He then says, [17] “And their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” [18] Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin. Instead of being on tablets Yah is turning our heart from stone and putting His Law in our minds.. his Torah.. not half of it not this one or that one the whole thing Do we Love God with all.our heart and all our mind if the answer is Yes which it is then why is it wrong to keep his commandments? Do i do it to be saved ?No. Do i do it to say oh look at me im so much better than every one else? no I don't. I do it because I love YWHW and I want to show him that love (No i am not perfect but I'm trying my hardest) So if LOVE is what the Torah teaches as Yeshua quoted taught love. (Him being YWHW 's word so the Torah made flesh as it says in John 1.) Then why not love him.. go thru the entire 600 odd commands (not the way the Jews have twisted them the way they are intended that Yeshua brought them back to) they teach you how to love God or love your neighbour. If your enemy ox falls into a ditch you shall save it and look after it untill he returns. Exodous 23:4-5 this is love.. The ten commandments. 1. You will have no other Gods before me... Which is a Love God commandment 2. You shall not make idols.. love God commandment 3.don't take Gods name in vain. Love YWHW commandment 4 keep the sabbath day. Love God and love your neighbour commandment. 5. honor your mother and father.. love your neighbour commandment 6. Do not murder. love your neighbour commandment 7. Don't murder. love your neighbour commandment 8. Don't steal. love your neighbour commandment 9. Don't lie. love your neighbour commandment 10. Don't covert.. love your neighbour commandment Are they binding thats up to you. Can we keep some of them? Possibly not some of them are out of my control to keep. as you said some pertain to women some to men some to priest. Are they hard? Well not really not as hard as i was taught in a modern church.. will they save us? Nope no chance? Do they show where our heart is? 110%. you me joe from down the street will be judged by every word and action. . Should we sit around making videos saying with lots of words and people, trying to prove that I'm right and they are wrong than the the other side. No we shouldn't. goes for both sides.. yes there are some things that should be corrected. And yes we should stand on YWHWs truth and walk in his light but who is more important? The person that belives or the unbeliever. How about we sprinkle seeds instead and let YWH grow this seeds the way he sees fit. I am unworthy imperfect person and so are you. Why do you want to cause so much more division ? You could spend your video making time in showing love to your enemy. Love to the other side... every video I watch of you is attack the other side attack the other side!! Humbly I ask you to step back and pray about this please .. Love God with all you heart and you neighbour as your self on these hang the Torah and the prophets.. Just like you hang your clothes on a coat hanger if you dont have these then you walk around with only a coat hanger and either naked or wearing spiritual clothes that are not Gods Love and shalom Ben please pray and think about this

What if… Even in the Old Testament writings Israel themselves did. It consistently keep the law. What if God needed to send prophet after prophet to correct all the errors that people “under the old covenant” walked in? What if… israel was exiled va use of their disobedience to the law. What if… Israel thought that it was ok to disregard at least some of the laws of God? What if.. judah was exiled because of their disobedience to the law? What if… when judah returned it was only in pretense and she was more treacherous than her sister Israel? What if… the law was lost to the body of Israelites only to be found by Josiah? What if… Josiah was the only they only man in scripture described as “loving God with all his heart and with all he is soul because he established the words of the law by doing them (1 kings 23). What if… in the Septuagint the word establish in that passage is the exact word used in Roman’s 3:31 translated as uphold the law, “Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means. But rather we uphold the law”. What if???

Rejecting the doctrines of man and only caring about what the bible says is actually not nonsensical, the definition of doctrine given by Solberg is the english definition, in both the Hebrew and Greek, it means instruction, so to reject the instruction of man and only receive instruction from the word of God completely makes sense, and as far as the 2000 years of prevailing thought and Christian theology goes, well that's your doctrine of man.

I literally experienced this and praise Lord Jesus for revealing me the truth. He told me it was never about Religion. He said God actually created Religion last (Torah) to eliminate all other religions and reveal Himself as true. Because no other religion actually revealed mankind’s flaws. Jesus Christ is the only way back to God now. The Torah only reveals God as true. But keeping or not keeping it does nothing for salvation. Love fulfills the whole Mosaic Law, and eradicates and prevents sin in general. So the Law of Moses is null compared to Love.

I’ll tell you the cause of this. It’s racism. Some of my afro-America Torah observant brothers believe we are still obligated to keep it because we were lied to by other nations not to and salvation only belongs to Afro-Israelites and no other nation because God loved Jacob but rejected all other nations without acknowledging the fact that because God said He hates Esau doesn’t mean we mortal creatures should also hate Esau, which would be equating ourselves to God, just like Satan did. What did Jesus mean when he said keep my commandments and go and sin no more. What did Jesus teach his apostles and disciples? The Hebrew roots faith that you explain is somewhat inaccurate. The goal is not salvation by works. We know that we cannot be saved by ourselves. The issue of the law is not to always stone someone or sacrifice something. God is the final judge and Jesus was the final sacrifice. The things that God wants us to do in the old testament and new testament are easy. If you read the guides that God gave us on how to treat people it makes more sense along side what Jesus taught, showed and explained to people. It's all about salvation and works and sacrifice is misleading

I appreciate your effort and hope that in your mind you are doing it to save the Judaizers that are needlessly following the commands of God. But your item number one is the right answer. You deem it false because Marcion was a heretic, and then quickly moved to number two. Did your study for your thesis paper take you in to the Council of Laodicia or any of the other late first through early third century theologians who were against Judaizers? It all starts with a change from Sabbath to Sunday worship and moves on from there to destroy the righteous precepts of God. Even Paul says without the law we don’t know sin, and sin is transgression of the law. If it was done away with as you suggest, then we cannot sin because there is nothing to sin against. It is hard to have a gospel of accommodation with the law to keep us in check. I suggest you watch the video series why Christian’s should keep the law by corner Fringe ministries. There are some kooks in Hebrew Roots for sure, but Daniel Joseph is not among them. He has even used snippets of your videos in sermons as examples of bad theology. I can’t do justice to 72 and counting twelve minute videos that break down why law keeping is not wrong and backed up by volumes of corroborating scriptural and other writings evidence. God Bless You.

Very good video as a history lesson, but Rob your misuse of the title Torah is possibly the conspiracy you missed, maybe Rome threw the 'baby out with the bath water' to ignore the Torah of Genesis given to Abraham and Israelites? It is obvious that law keeping is unpopular as even the Mosaic Jews were disobedient hypocrites, boasting God but committing sin, and yes Christianity tends to believe grace is a licence to sin as found in the NT.
