Did you know when you join the Army you have an 8 year commitment. So what happens if you sign a 4 year contract and get out of the Army with less that 8 years in?

Good day sir, As I got out before the age of the person computer, and cellphones, I never had anyone come check on me. I got my DD214 and checked in with the Veterans Administration. Your 2 minutes videos are fantastic sir.

A friend of mine's uncle was called back to the Air Force after 9/11. He graduated from the Air Force Academy the late 60s, served in Viet Nam and then became a pilot for a major airline. I think he had been out of the Air Force for at least 20 years. He was a Captain when he returned, and his CO was the age of his son. He first didn't really object, since it was after 9/11 and that would be a jerk thing to do. But they kept him in for over 3 years playing the salary of a captain and he wasn't eligible for promotion. There's a lot of loopholes to get people back in and he advised his granddaughter not to pursue an appointment to the USAFA or go the AF or Navy route to become an airline pilot because of the experience and the extreme lack of pilots now will cause even more of these types of recalls to service.

My first contract was a 3yrs/8yrs total. Then when I was IRR; I didn't have to do anything!!!

What was your MOS? I’m also considering 3 years active duty, but haven’t met anyone yet who did 3 instead of 4/6. Was it exactly 3 years or something plus?

It was exactly 3yrs, then I did 2yrs with the National Guard! My MOS was 91C originally 52C.

Your information is technically correct and you clearly know what you are talking about. However the IRR has never been enforced and they won't take your benefits if you refuse to mobilize. You can file for a delay or exemption, but the best bet is to ignore the orders if you get them. I ignored them 2007 and nothing happened.

I’m an active duty officer so no experience in the IRR. But I did hear a story of another officer in my branch who once got recalled from the IRR after his obligation was up because he did not resign his commission.

You may still be subject to recall back to service during war time. Even after your inactive time is complete. It takes an act of congress like the war powers act to do it though. early during Iraq and Afghanistan it was used on officers and enlisted. also early 80s it was used on some old sailors to help restore the battleships.

I got out in 2007 with four years on the IRR and I was never called back although I did do muster duty once a year. Yes I was paid but it was mainly making sure you’re still physically good. I think they only order soldiers to muster duty if you live in major city areas since you have to be within 45 miles of a military that could support it. 🤟
@MasterVader512
@MasterVader512 6 месяцев назад
what is muster duty?
@jthavorn
@jthavorn 6 месяцев назад
@@MasterVader512 muster duty is when you’re in the IRR and you’re given orders to report to a nearby installation for one day of duty. Usually involving updating information and small medical screenings. Nothing as crazy as MEPS and you’re all in civilian clothes. Not sure how it is now a days though.

Did 7 years and some change!! 1987-1994 and only had a few months of IRR!! They sent me a letter after 8 and that was that...
@johnslyfield5096

Just found out you can stay on IRR past that 8 year mark too. That would be on a voluntary basis only but you’d basically be letting them know you’d be willing to serve if the call came.
@abp1400
@abp1400 6 месяцев назад
IRR doesn't matter unless there's something like GWOT going on at the time, and even then, most won't get the recall. You don't really have to worry.

question, my son was in the army, sent home for pt failure, got in shape and went back in the army. When it came time to re-up, he decided to get out and he said they told him that since this is his second time leaving, he gets no insurance and is not in the IRR. Does this sound right to you or did he maybe misunderstand?

I signed this weird 12 year enlisted/rotc contract, technically it's only 6-2 but I have to serve in the guard while in college, and I don't want to risk IRR time so by the time I do the minuim I get out with 12 years TIS. But I get a 15k bonus tax free (plus tution waived) bonus ontop of drill pay. It's ehh

Hey guys I’ve been trying to join for 2 years, and been keeping tabs on signing bonuses and they’re not great right now. Should I wait a couple months to see if they reshuffle the bonuses? Any cool jobs to look out for? ASVAB score has no job restrictions, can choose anything just no Top Secret right away.

From what I've seen, while you're in phase 1 of IET, most likely no, you're dependents can't come with you. When you got to your phase 2 site, maybe then they would might be able to.
