After watching X-Men ‘97, I’m kinda hoping we do get a revival of JLU, even if it is impossible. I know it seems impossible now with the death of Kevin Conroy, but like X-Men ‘97 where Professor X is gone and Magneto joins the team (Spoiler) they could do a JLU series that takes place after the Return of the Joker flashback. I believe Bruce Timm or someone said Batman cut ties with the League after that event. Maybe they could do a JLU revival that deals with the absence of Batman and maybe have Aquaman take his place on the table.
Honestly, no, because it seems Bruce Timm has little interest in bringing back. He originally just wanted to end with season 2 Unlimited. Plus, the series got back with Fatal Five, which is alright, but it does contradicts some stuff in DCAU due to how much the actual comics change. I think it is better to have a new Justice League series than reviving DCAU.
I'm glad for what the DCAU exists as, as much as it would be nice to have even more, but it was done so well that I can't even complain that it went out on top. If we were to have another season, I would've loved to see more episodes to look at the D-Listers, and see how weird things could get. I would have loved an episode where we are introduced to the Challengers Of The Unknown, or Slam Bradley show up for a Question/Martian Manhunter real gumshoe story. Really show us these fringes of the DC Universe, while still giving time to the League interacting with them bringing this world together. Or Hal Jordan. Could always use more Hal Jordan.
Double comment for the algorithm! What about an ep focusing on the fallout of the flashback from ROTJ. We can see how it impacted Bruce and pushed him away
If there was another season of JLU I would like to see some of the sidekicks/partners from previous shows become members and come into there own as their own heroes. Like an arc with Nightwing would be nice
Another banger from the Database 🔥 If we were to get a fourth season, getting more adventures in the Beyond era would have been fun, maybe with even more legacy takes on other heroes from the "present day"
A Justice League Unlimited sequel series featuring the Batman Beyond era team would be great. Start with Bruce’s funeral, show Diana & Clark crying with Terry, reaffirming their devotion to his ideals of justice for the innocent and safety for all. Show an older Jessica Cruz as the senior GL overseeing baldy, have an aged Hawkgirl & John Stewart retired and getting up in years show up. Maybe have Barry show up at long last having jumped into the future, with Wally now the old and experienced one. Have Bruce buried next to a statue of Ace petting Ace. Have Dick Greyson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, & Damian Wayne as his coffin bearers, with a new Nightwing & Robin in the crowd. Have Martian Manhunter giving a eulogy. Go all in. As for what I would have wanted to see for a theoretical s4 of JLU: I’d want to see an episode about Wally & Giganta, and mentions of Barry as the hero who saved everyone but no one knows his name. An episode of Diana and Bruce where he’s attacked by the Phantasm (being mind-controlled by Grodd) and put into a coma, leading to Bruce being tormented by nightmares of his lovers being punished for his actions, with Diana having to find the real Bruce inside by following his voice as he sings “Am I Blue” in the background, and really learning why he’s afraid to be with her: because he loves her more than any of them and he can’t let her be hurt like they were. An episode following up on War World & Superman’s foe, maybe this time with Booster Gold seeing what a hero with all the praise but no substance becomes. A wrap-up arc where John Stewart is assigned to patrol near Thanagarian territory, with Kyle Rayner going back to Earth for a time, with Hawkgirl & Hawkman going off with John while Vixen meets Kyle and has a heart-to-heart about what she’s actually doing with her life and with John. Meanwhile Hawkman becomes King of the Thanagarians and helps win the war alongside Adam Strange and some other folks, with Hawkgirl making the choice to stay with Earth for good and John resolving to talk to Vixen and Shayera straight. (Personally I’d have loved to see them form a polycule and have Vixen & Hawkgirl go on a date and establish a relationship too, but that wouldn’t air). A time travel episode wherein Amazo goes back to the source of magic and helps ancient preincarnations of Hawkman & Hawkgirl & John Stewart fight the Thanagarian devil god, finally completing the arc of “we create our own purpose” and becoming the helm worn by Dr. Fate. An episode following up with General OmniJameson, with Superman being mind-controlled again and he steps in to fight only to get put in the dirt, Batman producing his contingency plan and managing to subdue Clark but unable to perform the finishing blow on his friend, leading to his secret trump card: a hologram recording of Dan Turpin which breaks Superman out and lets them deal with the actual threat. I’d want a one-off episode of Terry coming to old man Bruce to ask about love, with him torn between Daina, 10, Aquagirl, & a fourth love interest, with Bruce being all “Oh boy, you’ve got no idea.” Maybe hint that Diana has a daughter that might be Terry’s half-sister. Definitely bring back Brainiac, have it be that Darkseid was merged with him like Luthor was when he returned, just not as evenly, and that part of him was able to escape or broke off, rebuilding himself quietly and eventually reforming in Terry’s time, trying to take over Zeta and resulting in a tie-up there. And finally, an episode of Kara in the future with the Legion of Superheroes, realizing she’s pregnant and having Brainiac 5 discuss retirement for them. (Edit) Oh, and a Fire & Ice episode with them being married but never saying it flat out, and just being the cutest crime-fighters ever.
QOTD: In a new season I would want to see an older version of the Justice League! Have Bruce Wayne in the Batman Beyond suit and change up the main 7 a bit (I haven't always liked Cyborg being a member of Justice League, but a future version would be cool with him on it)
My annual Christmas wish...aside from world peace that is, would be a Justice League Beyond series! Reading the Earth 12 comics had me hankering for some more of Terry McGinnis fighting alongside Superman, Barda, Warhawk, Aquagirl, and Green Lantern! Maybe we'd get a Flash...or Superman would meet his son that he had with Lashina. The possibilities are endless!
If they did have a new season, I would have incorporated some of Batman's adversaries (the Joker, Scarecrow, Bane, and Poison Ivy) - possibly the Near Apocalypse of 09, which I thought it was a Ra's/Talia/Poison Ivy vs. Vandal Savage storyline.
Incredible video!! In my ideal season 4 I would definitely like to see the tala or space angle, I would love to just explore more heroes who were always see. in the background, like what is vibe’s story? why the hell is nemesis there? there are several members on the jlu who would be on a jsa if such a thing existed, what are their stories? also firestorm, i love firestorm
Oh yeah baby, a whole new video for my peepers. Thanks to all the Databoys and Babes in front of the mic and behind the scenes. I can't wait to watch!!
it's crazy that you ended up saying "hal jordan, hal jordan, or maybe hal jordan" because all i wanted from JLU was more green lantern stuff. but especially hal
ngl your wonder woman TAS sounds like something that 9/10 would see (though idk if anyone’s willing to get an impersonator to play batman considering how baked conroy is in that batman in particular)
26:44 I personally think that Darkseid's Final invasion is would have been what jolted Joker out of his coma not Aces Death. But I like that idea as well.
For the QOTD: it honestly feels like an impossible task for me. Growing up, the Glen Murakami helmed Teen Titans was my main experience with the DC universe, with whatever JL/JLU episodes I managed to catch on the off chance I was still watching CN/Toonami. At best, maybe a story arc involving Braniac could do to make up for the Darkseid bait and switch.
I would have loved to have seen what a Barry Allen in this universe could have been, more Wonder Woman Vs Dr. Psycho, John Constantine, the classic Justice Society, and more of John & Shayera relationship
If a new season were to happen: I'd like to have seen new status quos for each of the Leaguers (and integrating newer storylines, future canon be damned.) What if Lois knew Clark's identity and they get married? The Bat-Embargo was lifted and more heroes like Spoiler or Orphan were brought in? Beyond would get additions from Future State etc etc.
Season 4 follows the question and huntress after quitting the league. we see the escapades that happen when they open a bed and breakfast for superheroes
For a JLU Season 4: Could maybe do that idea I brought up before and what you explored in the one video about Galetea maybe somehow returning and becoming Power Girl, or just how we could have gotten Power Girl in general (along with the other character cameos we've seen in recent JL related movies and such).
It's sad to say, but I don't think a DCAU revival would work without Kevin. At least not in TV form, but maybe if the writers locked-in and decided to continue it via comic books to bridge the gap between JLU and Batman Beyond.
This would've come out around 2007, which would've been a few years into Geoff Johns' Green Lantern run. Incorporating some aspects of that, like the Sinestro Corps, since they were going to space, would've been pretty cool to see.
Even without Kevin Conroy, we can still have Batman/old Bruce in more Jlu episodes/prequels/midquels. Jonathan David Cooke (Kids' Wb's promo Batman, The Big Guy, The Wb narrator) would be a PERFECT successor for the Dcau Batman 🔥
Here is what a JLU Season 4 should have had, more of DC's world. What I mean by that is more locations from the comics. I also really liked the character centric episodes (exploring backstories, following a mystery, etc). I love watching your videos (and listening to the podcast) and keep up the good work. Stay Yoppie!
JLU was such a freaking great show, and of course I wanted another season. Everyone did! I don't get all these exec's and suits saying that there wasn't any interest because of course there was! There had to be another reason why, and I think your Ben 10 insinuation is the closest explanation we can get.
Oh cool, this actually plays pretty nicely with the ideas for a revival I've been trying to tease out for funsies since watching your previous episode! 😃 Basically, the multiverse suddenly starts going crazy & tearing itself apart while the universe at-large begins to remember DCAU's equivalent to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Much dimension hopping and character swapping (and emotional fallout) ensue. And saving the day leads into the second season and the Near Apocalypse of 2009 (though at this point, in-universe time has become, oh, let's say *hazy*), which as I write this is feeling like a very messy mix of Lazarus Planet and *redacted*? I dunno, it's still an early WIP, lol. Anyway, I'm sure it's nothing special. But thanks for inspiring me to flex my creativity a bit anyway.
Good video folks and Ty again! I watched JLU everytime it aired originally. This was such a great show! I would’ve loved to have seen more seasons and they’ve talked about it, but with the passing of Kevin Conroy, they feel it wouldn’t be right and I kind of agree with them. Ty lots again folks for doing what you do! JLU is one of my favorite DCAU shows and I do think from time to time about what we would’ve gotten for another season. You made my day! Keep up the fabulous work and Happy Early Halloween!
Great video, especially the yellow impurity bit. I would love to see a Birds of Prey episode, Double Date is one of my favorite episodes of JLU and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Gale Simone’s classic Birds of Prey run. And I’d really like an episode about Barbara interacting with women in the Hero community that’s actually pretty good. Sorry TNBA.
It would have been nice to have a follow up on The Clash, to have Captain Marvel return and have him and Superman patch things up, as well as see Billy return to the League. I refuse to believe that during Darkseid's invasion of Earth, Billy would not have been their fighting alongside his friends. Heck, he would have happily been fighting alongside Superman against Darkseid himself.
QOTD: Personally for another Season of Justice League Unlimited / More DCU in general I want to see more things set in The Beyond Era with an Older Terry after Bruce Wayne is gone & The Future JLU Team featuring animated adaptations of DC Characters & adjusted Storylines from DC Comics that released AFTER The JLU Show Ended! There's now a lot of Characters that have been created since The JLU Show ended & It's interesting to think about how they would be adapted for not only in The DCAU but also The Future Batman Beyond Era 🤔
I would have loved to have seen a deep dive into the Martian Manhunter's past. Explore his time on Mars and his Johd Jones side on earth. it'd have also been cool to have them team up with the Doom Parrol or some version of the Teen Titans.
Man I remember watching this as a kid and being so excited for the direction of hero cartoons. Then nothing ever came close to holding a candle to the way this show was able to balance seriousness, silly quips and actual stakes. In no series can you watch Superman get his shit pushed in more, really driving home the reason the Justice League needs to exist. Even the Man Of Steel is no match for the horrors that lay out in space. This was even the kind of show that made me like the silly throw-away one-liners during moments of serious action. Unlike modern Marvel they where it started to feel like every character is trying to be JDR at Iron man, JL was able to make every single character have a human side where they're able to make a joke once in a while even in a tough situation because, again, they're human (at least in spirit, for some). Or exploring the romantic side between Bruce and Dianne in a realistic way where their jobs are getting in the way of them being able to be together. SO many of the story beats are just slice-of-life but in a superhero setting which makes it feel grounded in reality and relate-able. Man I could gushing grannies over this series for hours I should rewatch it.
Honestly I keep forgetting season 3 was a thing 😅 as mentioned the numbering for the dvd box sets throws me off since it was only seasons 1 and 2 (at least in the ones I’ve got)
Personally for me, I have a lot of ideas of what I would have liked to see for a fourth season. They include -A return to New Genesis, see what happened to the New gods once Darkseid was no more. - More Atomic Skull -Some of the characters who only appeared in DCAU tie-in or Earth-12 comics like Animal Man and the Metal Men, with them all having an episode -Another Captain Marvel/Shazam episode -If doing time travel, then including future-set episodes with OMAC and Kamandi. -I really want to say a Doom Patrol episode too but the rights probably would have been a problem with the teen Titans appearance. -Lobo returning -The DNAliens (the Ben 10 ones), work in that they were all left behind after Cadmus fell apart -Give Nemesis and Obsidian speaking roles. -The return of Orm fully as Ocean Master, maybe working behind the scenes to take Atlantis and the world's oceans once and for all. -Shining Knight and Etrigan teaming up, with Sir Justin not trusting Jason Blood due to his role in Camelot's fall. -And a take on the Nail series, where due to the time/space travel, several leaguers find themselves in a world where Superman is not around, thus meta humans are are lot more distrusted, the League hides in secret (with fewer of the founding members, implied to be killed by the Imperium), and the world's governments openly run Cadmus-like programs.
Lots of possibilities. Young Justice, often considered the 'successor' to JLU had a similar plotline to what you discussed, where the core 7 are called away to a distant planet and then a massive new threat (alien invasion pretending to be benevolent) strikes the Earth while they're gone. Instead of the sidekicks, it could be the expanded League which has to step up. Given how Diana and J'onn reunite, I always thought that would lead into Diana adopting a civilian identity on his recommendation, trying to get closer to the people she's sworn to protect and kicking off a lot of the plotlines connected to her 'Diana Prince' identity... as well as more Wonder Woman stories in general; she's been woefully underrepresented compared to Bats and Supes. I wrote an outline for this idea combined with the 'Identity Crisis' arc where it is revealed that several League members with mind powers (like J'onn) have been pulling an 'MIB' erasing a villain's memory whenever they learn a Leaguer's civilian identity as well as making them less malevolent. When this mass brainwashing gets undone across the world by a magic spell, dozens of supervillains who were previously considered weaklings (like say, Copperhead) suddenly become much greater and more malicious threats.
I really like the idea of the orginal 7 (Hal Jordan, superman, batman, wonder women, flash (Barry allen), aquaman, and Hal Jordan) episode idea. I would also like to see an episode of the perspective of the side characters days while the justice league is out on mission like robin, batgirl, Lois lane, and Jimmy doing things
I havent watched it, but michael rosenbaum did a reunion on his podcast (unfortunately kevin is missing) a couple years back where i believe they do a script reading of some sort
I wouldve loved to see some more deep space stuff, bring back Amazo, maybe an episode or two about the GL Corps (Hal Jordan), maybe a touch on Rann/Thanagar tensions, and Hal Jordan
I like Black Lightning but it be nice if they would use Black Vulcan! like some sort of canonical story and add in Soul Power and Sparky! maybe a team up **w** or some story where they are all the same person, and it makes perfect sense!
JLU Season 4 would have been fantastic! I'd have wanted to see a Crisis-level event done through multiple time periods. With teams in those different eras working together to stop whichever mastermind(s) were behind the crisis.
Another season of JLU with the Justice League Beyond would be so sick! At the same time, the ending for JLU was just so good as it is, so I don’t really know how you get better than that tbh
I think for season 4 could do blackest night, focusing on John Stewart as the season protagonist. As the season progresses, it takes GL and a few leaguers to space to find the source of the black lantern ring while the other heroes stay on Earth and hold off the hordes. It can introduce other lanterns on the emotional spectrum and other space-faring characters like the Omega Men or even Space Cabbie.
For me? Two big things I’d like to see were to FINALLY see The Crime Syndicate since they’ve been teased and played with coming to the DCAU for so long it be nice to finally see it. Another would also to maybe do a Season where YES we dive into the Beyond Timeline one more time, and show Terry’s story go full circle as he’s forced to continue without Bruce. As for guests? I’d kinda dig to see more JSA members like we got Wildcat and teases of Jay, why not bring in Wesley’s Sandman or Atom Smasher or Johnny Thunder? I think it be interesting to show more of DC’s pasts heroes. I mean it was teased there were other heroes before the ones we started with like Soul Power from Static Shock and Spy Smasher from JLU. Think it could be interesting.
It would have been great to have gotten a season 4. The overall story arc could have been a space/time adventure for the main trinity of Batman, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern where they go to deep space and meet Imperiax. They manage to escape back to earth, but Imperiax followed them and tries to conquer the planet. In the final episode, the Justice League is joined by New Genesis, the Green Lantern Corps., and a handful of villains who actually have started to turn good.
I would've loved to have seen more WonderBat in season 4, but I would've loved to have also seen the 'present' team actually meet the future team (since they met an alternate future version in Season 1).
For JL Season 4, I would have liked to see a bit more exploration of the Sinestro Corps. I think that unwritten episode-turned comic would have been an excellent segway for that. I'd have also liked to see Hal Jordan. And maybe even Hal Jordan, story permitting.
I would have liked to have seen the time/space travel option that was mentioned. This could have given us a proper Golden Age JSA story, another Legion story, and more. Also, I would have loved to see more of the Marvel Family. The Beyond universe would also be fun, but maybe just for one story, not a whole season.
Personally, I didn't grow up watching this show. I watched it for the first time back in 2019 during my last year of high school. I'm now twenty-two years old and own the entire series on DVD.
Great video as always guys. I always love thinking about what could be and what could have happeneds It's just always a fascinating concept. Especially with just the sheer amount of stories the dcau can offer. I guess if anything tho if we ever got to see more dcau that near apycolpsye of 09 would be my pick
I think for a season 4, if the Bat Embargo was lifted, make in a season long celebration of that by reintegrating Batman's rogues and allies, perhaps having the Joker himself as the big bad of the season trying to make a joke out of all the other world enders by trying to make everyone go out in one glorious big bang. And perhaps, he even wins, setting off to season 5 through time travel and multiverse shenanigans to restore the surviving hero's lost world.
I think having Season 4 follow Terry McGinnis after Epilogue is a great idea. It’s also the highest possibility of something actually happening for a season 4. Would still love to see it, fingers crossed!!
For season four i would have loved to see the main roster get split up, one in space (Superman, MM, GL and Hawkgirl) and the other having to deal with the magical side of the DCAMU (Batman, WW, and Flash). We could’ve gotten an episode on new Genesis, visiting Oa, meeting up with Adam strange, or maybe even finding the planet doomsday from?? And on the other side, an episode with swamp thing/the whole justice league dark would have been insane
I got to talk with Paul Dini at a con a while ago. There was no one else in line, so I got to spend a bit of time with him. He told me that they wanted to use The Specter, but there were licensing issues in the way.
Here's what I'd want for a JL Season 4: I'd love for them to revisit the Justice Lords earth and see how that world is recovering. I think there's a lovely story of redemption in that universe that we don't often get to see. Of course, I'm likely very biased, but Justice Lords would be what I'd want to see. And not the Justice Lords 2.0 comic but an actual series that redeems each member as the Justice Lords reform as the Justice League.
I'm a huge fan of the Flashpoint paradox, so if season 4 were to incorporate more flash storylines and throw Barry into the mix just to make things more confusing, I'd love that
If Justice League Unlimited had continued I feel like the ending for the series probably would have been the near apocalypse of 09 since that would make the most sense to end off on a big event story to conclude the Justice League era.
The biggest thing I would have wanted in a season 4 is the Justice Society being introduced into the DCAU. I know we had the Justice Guild and I loved the two parter they were in, but the Justice Society being active in the main timeline would have been great. Especially since Mattel made a bunch of them in their action figure line. Also a Marvel family and black Adam episode if I can be greedy.
I would have liked to see more Wonder Woman and Batman stories that fully answered if they became a couple or not. Also some more flash stories, possibly dealing with exploring the speed force after Divided We Fall.
