the problem is with us filipinos is that we want our LEADERS to CHANGE but the true root of our problems today is that we THE PEOPLE DONT CHANG. In order to achieve a better nation we must all change not just the government

"Great power comes with great responsibility." Both the Martial Law and the People Power have pro's and con's. And they also gave us powers. Martial Law gave us the power of discipline, but some of those who had the power, abused the system and made all of the chaos. People Power gave us the power of freedom, but like what happened during Martial Law, some of those who had the power, also abused the system and made all the chaos, chaotic than before. So it is not about the system, it is about those who are in the system. YES, EVERYBODY, EACH AND EVERYONE OF US, is to blame of our own downfall. So, the solution does not only rely to the system, but also to those who make up the system. So, no more better this, better that, better yesterday, better now, better if, but become a better you and better all of us. So we could guarantee a better tommorrow with a better nation.

The irony is that several of the points, including the increasing gap between rich and poor, took place outside Martial Law.

If Martial Law still happens today, you're not allowed to criticize the government and you're not allowed to access foreign things just like it is as toughly strict as your parents. During the Second World War, President José P. Laurel placed the Philippines (then a client state of Imperial Japan) under martial law via Proclamation № 29, dated 21 September 1944 and enforced the following day at 09:00 PST. Proclamation № 30 was issued on 23 September, declaring the existence of a state of war between the Philippines and the United States and the United Kingdom, effective 10:00 that day. The country was under martial law again from 1972 to 1981 under President Ferdinand Marcos. Proclamation № 1081 ("Proclaiming a State of Martial Law in the Philippines") was signed on 21 September 1972 and came into force on 22 September. The official reason behind the declaration was to suppress increasing civil strife and the threat of a communist takeover, particularly after a series of bombings (including the Plaza Miranda bombing) and an assassination attempt on Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile in Mandaluyong.
