2009 in real life was a year that saw Jimmie Johnson win his fourth straight championship en route to his 5 consecutive titles. But what happens if the playoffs are in place in 2009 instead? Would Johnson get the title still? Would veteran Mark Martin win his first instead? Or would someone put of the pack win? Find out here.

Being 8th then winning in an elimination race is insane for Kurt. That’s awesome. I always said 2009 was a title-worthy run. Amazing year for him.

It really depends on the manufacturer. The Dodges looked ugly AF, but those Chevrolets looked pretty nice.

Montoya actually finished 8th in both the 2004-2013 Chase Points System and the 1972-2003 Poins System

Kurt Busch won this hypothetical with some timely finishes and a huge gamble on fuel at Texas. Absolutely clutch because he beat the juggernauts of Johnson, Martin and Kyle.

For personally, this is why a small part of why I love F1 and Indycar. Their champion is never questioned, their penalties and the races yeah, but the fans know how the championship will play out, however they never argue that the champion didn’t deserve it.

He would only have 1. 2006-2009 would've all went to other drivers. Beyond the Flag said that Carl Edwards would win it in 2010 off of the Chase grid format, but we'll see if the Playoffs say the same.

If you haven't done 2003 yet then you should do that season. I only say that because there were 16 different winners before what would have been the playoffs.

Mark Martin had a career resurgence in 2009 and had it not been in the middle of the Johnson Domination, he could have finally gotten himself a title

Remember in 2015 Kyle Busch shouldn't be eligible for points due to the fact he didn't attempt to qualify for all 36 races

So Kurt Busch won the title in 2009 under this system, and he would have wanted for Roger Penske instead of Jack Roush? Interesting. Based on this knowledge, would that mean Carl Edwards would become a two-time champion with his win at Homestead, or would Johnson win it over the others because Edwards was eliminated from competition? Can't wait for the next episode!

You should analyze the 1974 season in different points standings, that's the year Richard Petty won the season in the first race (you got points based on prize money that year, it was very weird).

So far, Roush would have 2 more championships, Penske has 1 (don't know how 2012 would be effected yet), Gibbs loses a championship, and Hendrick loses 3. 2 drivers became champions (Edwards and Biffle), 1 driver earned another (Kenseth), 2 drivers earned their's earlier (Johnson and Harvick), 1 letar (kurt), 1 lost a title (Stewart), and 1 lost 3 (Johnson).
