What If Smash Bros Started Today? 🔎 

Hit me with your thoughts, folks. I'm curious what your picks would be with such restrictive criteria! 🔎

It's hard to build a roster that tops Ultimate's without just making "Smash Bros. Ultimate Deluxe", so I can see the second concept as a realistic next step for the franchise! A trimmed down roster with an overhaul to the legacy characters' movesets would definitely go a long way!

I'd swap out Wario for Shulk and Fox for Villager

Nice work! I think I like this slightly longer format, and I appreciate the K. Rool bias in your second roster. If I could add one more fighter, I think there's a strong case for Duck Hunt. Smash loves its retro fighters, and this trio is definitely the most iconic and well known.

I like the idea but I feel like this video just kind of made Melee again anyway. If we’re assuming that Smash didn’t exist yet but it’s effects (like Fire Emblem becoming popular) somehow did, than I think the roster would be something like this: Mario, Luigi, Link, Samus, Inkling, Chrom, Isabelle, Olimar, Kirby, Pikachu, Shulk, and Mii And for stages Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser’s Castle, Zora’s Domain, Ferenia, Starfish Mainstage, Vaskrheim, Green Gardens, Gateway Colosseum, Syra Hovering Reefs, and Wuhu Island For DLC, I could see Donkey Kong, Ness, Zelda and Mewtwo being added (Ness only because of the number of indie games inspired by Earthbound)

Honestly I'd cut Fox from the original Line-Up as Star Fox just isn't a relevant Franchise, similiar to Earthbound and F-Zero, instead Villager or Isabelle would make alot more sense to replace Fox.

I feel like I would add Shulk as xenoblade is on rise for modern Nintendo I just love xeno too much 😂

Woah, this is so underrated

I would replace Marth with Isabelle since one of the reason Fire Emblem became a non japanese exclusive and a popular nintendo name was due to smash bros and I don,t think any one would care for a blue haired anime swordsman in this timeline. Also, make Wario fight like in his Warioland games and make Ashley the warioware rep due to her witch magic giving her a unique moveset and her popularity. (she is my favorite warioware character) Also if I was forced to include 6 3rd party characters in this game, this would be my picks: Sonic Pac-Man Ryu Steve Mega Man Heihachi or Kazuya (not sure which one) P.S: Add Waluigi for obvious reasons.

Lucario instead of Jigglypuff in the 25 character roster is a crime but other than that a very respectable lineup!

Corneria was my favorite from the original though! Maybe a Golden Sun character for handheld representation but also a lot of sword wielders on the roster

I'd say if Smash started today, 7/12 from the OG makes the cut Fox McCloud and his series is irrelevant or out of the limelight as Mother and F-ZERO but 5 are completely new, sticking to your rules - these 5 will come from popular or well-known ip Inkling - Splatoon Marth - Fire Emblem Olimar (with Moss) - Pikmin Wario - Warioware/Land Isabelle - Animal Crossing though if we are expanding beyond 64 into Melee then these lovely folks would do quite well Luigi, Peach and Bowser for Mario Diddy Kong - Donkey Kong King Dedede - Kirby Charizard and Greninja for Pokemon Shulk - Xenoblade Pit - Kid Icarus Little Mac - Punchout Min Min - ARMS Mii - Mii Ring Fit Trainer - Ring Fit Adventure

i would remove Fox instead of Luigi for the same reason as Ness & Captain Falcon

DK no ha recibido un juego nuevo en Switch... a Fox no lo descartaria por completo, pero estaria en la cuerda floja. Captain Falcon tiene ligeras posibilidades por el F-Zero 99.. pero con un Moveset muy diferente al que conocemos hoy en día.

I feel like I'm betraying my status as a furry by saying this but, I don't know if Fox deserves to make the original-12 cut. Nintendo's tried to revive Star Fox multiple times but, frankly in today's zeitgeist Star Fox is only remembered for 64 and Smash. I'd say Villager or Isabelle would be a more justifiable "original-12" inclusion, Animal Crossing is much more pervasive and profitable for Nintendo today than Star Fox ever was
