I think a lot of the people behind early Sonic Team are under appreciated and need more recognition. I think an animated movie with Naoto Oshima’s art style would do him more justice than the live action style of the current films. (Not to make Paramount Sonic look bad.)
Honestly i really wouldn't even mind after watching Sonic prime it could definitely work! they could bring back great characters from the sonic comic Books! IDW Sonic Silver timeline maybe even blaze world they could tern them into movies.

I hear you, but I still always say making it animated. Wouldn’t fix anything. It’s all depending on the story this being told. As much as I would love for them to go all out, I can’t help but think about sonic reputation at the time. People literally act like they can’t comprehend anything in this series outside of the fans. So I understand why they introduced things slowly and I think that was a good idea. Especially for the direction that they’re going in which seems to be more adventure inspired style for the future. We weren’t going to be hanging out in chemical plant no matter what yknow. I’d love a fully animated one but I also want the creators minded to tell the story they want. That’s very important. Definitely not perfect. (hopefully they took him criticism to improve) Enjoying the ride. We’re on now. I still have hope for the future also. Now that he’s hit the big screen I don’t think he’s leaving. I think an animated movie is definitely coming at some point.
I feel like studios are still underestimating their audiences. The reception of the "multiverse" concept in superhero films these past couple of years is proof they can keep up with "complex" or nerdy/geeky plots. Puss in Boots 2 is proof you can make successful animated films in current year as well.

I agree 100% on what you said about the characterisations when it comes to the movies. One of my biggest gripes with the sequel's handling of Tails was how he only gravitated to Sonic because "he was weird, too." A staple of his character is that he was saved from bullies by Sonic, who inspired him to stand up for himself and start to go in his own direction eventually, but I feel like Paramount took that away... It would've been amazing to see a flashback of their first meeting, but it was sadly replaced by a quick meeting when _Tails_ saved Sonic from Eggman and Knuckles. Also, am I the only one who doesn't really like how they made Sonic younger in the movies? I get that it goes hand-in-hand with the "origin story/rise of the hero" theme they're going for, but I don't know man, Sonic has always felt like an older character or the cool big brother figure we all aspired to have cheering us on! Him thrashing the house when left alone was personally very cringy to me though I get what he's going for; I think game Sonic would've used the time to do bigger scale stuff like trying to best his record time for running laps around the town or the state, or show him interacting with the town more! Show how he's become the town's little secret or something... I really hope we get some kind of significant sign that Sonic has literally matured because I swear if I have to hear him do a pop culture reference or name drop some big actor I will slap him silly myself 😂 On another note, I also agree with the side characters thing-- I wasn't that much of a fan of Maddie and Tom adopting Knuckles as well? I think the way Sonic X handled it was better, with Knuckles going off on his own to find a way to get back to Mobius. But if literally EVERY character will somehow get adopted by a human or something of the sorts, it will be very complicated and kind of forced in my opinion. Great video!! I pray for a Sonic animated movie, maybe one in the style of Unleashed's intro cutscene
To be honest, it's not that they are afraid of telling Sonic stories, it's they don't WANT to. basically, they want this to be a whole new Sonic, and bringing the whole entire Sonic Universe into the movies would make it seem like it's trying to be in the same universe as the games. and they wanted to make a whole new universe, I think basically the mindset they are working with in these movies is "What if Sonic existed in real life?"
Hey I believe you’re right on that. All Paramount and SEGA are trying to do is experiment with Sonic like they have for the last 20 years and that’s great. I don’t see anything wrong with a movie series with a live action version of Sonic living in our world, and traveling the real world continents. He’s gone through a lot of character development in the first two movies. That’s good!
I’m happy with how things have turned out with the Sonic movies so far especially the second but if I saw an animated Sonic movie that looked like the Unleashed CGI cutscenes (but maybe a bit brighter), including with the modern character designs, I would’ve gone nuts (even more if the team behind it gave the same effort the Paramount team has)
The closest Sonic animation has ever gotten to recapturing the magic of that opening cutscene, was Prime! The animation and art style is properly stylized and equally fluid. Right folks?
My exact reaction to the tmnt mutant mayhem trailer was “we need a sonic movie like this”. A mixture of 2D and 3D would do wonders for sonic and the characters, especially if they give the characters a graffiti style feel (like how spider verse and mutant mayhem resemble their respective source materials art styles). And the team behind the movie wouldn’t be limited by live action and would have a lot more options to do with settings, action sequences, & character roster.
I would love an Animated Sonic Movie, now with the recent animated movies like Spider-Verse, Puss in Boots 2 and now with TMNT Mutant Mayhem, I always imagine an Animated Sonic Movie with the Style like with again from the movies I mentioned, 3D animation with running frame rates with 2D aspects, but if you wanna go further, the 2D part like with backgrounds or outlines or even like added pictures like Explosions be like Pixelated from 16bits because not it would be visually Incredible but it represents Sonic’s origin being a 16bit game from the 90’s, much like with Spider-Man and Ninja Turtles because they originated from Comic Books, I know it would take a lot of time but I think it would be worth it.

Well they said they’re forming a sonic cinematic universe so we will probably get more locations from the games into the movies they also need to figure out a way to get the game music to fit in the movies
Now that animation has become so detailed, the Live Action Movie has lost some of its significance. But in the end, the audience is probably most interested in a good story. The same problems that follow the live action films could also be repeated in a fully animated film.
It's funny that wen the first Sonic film came the film industry didn't know how to introduce a game movie. But now whit Super Mario and teenage mutant ninja turtles movie they seems more comfortable. Time moves fast.
I understand your point, and I kind of agree, but I really think what the live action Sonic Movies is doing actually the amazing way, because even though they are going at there own plot or story I really think thats cool. On Sonic Movie 2 I love the way instead of having angel island in the air, they had it in the water, because if it was in the air, all Eggman has to do is fly up there get the Master Emerald, consume its energy into its self then super sonic then the movie is done. Instead they added adventure, and a compass to find the master emerald which is so cool, sometimes you have to go by your own story to make things awesome, but also add refrences like in the dance battle when sonic did the Sonic Adventure DX pose. In the adventure Sonic overcomed his fear (probably) by going on water. And In the process of the movie Sonic noticed things what he wasnt doing right and fixed it, like when he told Knuckles that quote after angel island collapsed "Being a hero doesnt mean takin care of yourself, its about taking responsibility for other people." They did everything in the movie correctly (maybe not everything). It would make more sense that Eggman is in the live action because hes more human, and ofc hes human in the tv show and games, but Eggman is Human Human like he came from Earth, and Sonic Came from another planet, which in the first movie people would always call them "alien" or anything else. The part when you were talkig about "Silver, Blaze, Cream" etc got me a lot and made me think a lot, but then when I thought about it, maybe they just want to take there time, keep the people and the fans entertained and want them to predict on whats gonna happen next. They like that because they know that people are entertained and ready for the next movie, we never know that there could be a Sonic 4 Sonic 5 Sonic 6, or even 7, those movies could probably mention Blaze or Silver or even Cream. They want to take there time, and have that adventure, like Sonic says "An adventure is no fun, when its to easy" they dont just want to smash everyone in one full movie and leave it there, they want to keep the watchers entertained and keep them on the Ride. I think Animated Sonic is better in tv shows and live action sonic is better in movies, plus without sonic movie 2, it wouldnt have gave us Sonic Frontiers and gave Sonic that big Boost in the year of 2022. Thats all I gotta say for now, that was probably not all the things I wanted to say because I forgot some, but I hope this comment made sense, if not, sorry I tried to make my opinions and facts. I hope this wasnt offending or anything else. I'm just saying I wanted to say.
The biggest problem with Live Action is the human characters because they can’t play the role forever, some DON’T want to play the role forever. Now compare that to fully animated animation where you can simply just replace the voice actor if they can’t and/or don’t want to voice the character anymore.
To be honest, I thought they did a good job for the most part in sequel by keeping the humans away from main plot, but it's somewhere right in the middle section where all of a sudden it becomes Rachel's movie, with her trying to figure if her fiancé truly loves her. It's like we are in a completely different movie, but to give it credit, atleast after that entire pointlessness was resolved, they never cut back to them again, and it makes me hope that's how it's gonna be in the third.

While I would love for a fully animated Sonic movie, I'm actually okay with the live action movies. All I ever wanted was for a good Sonic movie and that's exactly what we got. Sure, if there was an issue that I have with the live action movies, it was that we don't see enough of Sonic's world and I wish that the movies would show more of Sonic's home world. Also, I do agree that they could incorporate more of the music from the games since the games have some of the best music in video game history. But, I don't think not having an animated movie for Sonic is the end of the world. And it seems like the live action movies are trying to incorporate more of the games lately. Also, I do like the fact that they were being cautious about introducing Sonic to the movie going audience because not everyone has played a Sonic the Hedgehog game or not everyone even knows who Sonic the Hedgehog is, even if he's been around for 30 years and if you just shove in loads of characters from the games without giving them time to be developed for the movie going audience, then most of the audience would be lost on what's going on with the characters.
THANK YOU!!! It's so annoying to hear people asking where characters A and B are in first movie, plus a certain story from one game not being the plot of the movie. Because even if that's people would want to see from a franchise and could please the fans, casuals would likely be so lost to what is even going on with that movie!
I feel like they should make a Sonic Prime movie, after Sonic Prime ends like maybe if Sonic Prime gets a 3rd season (which hopefully it does) then that will be the end of the series and then maybe a year later they can make "Sonic Prime: The Movie" now that is a movie I would want to see I should probably call the Sega support number and give them that idea.
I think the reason Nintendo is going all out with the characters and the lore in the Mario movie is because they only plan to make one movie. Still great video overall
Best thing is that Paramount listens to the fan base, so there's chance and hope we could get an Animated Sonic The Hedgehog Movie, but I'm pretty much satisfied by Sonic Prime existing, it's animated, it's 3D, it's on the point, created by Man of Action which is creator of Ben 10 also, Characters are accurate, Rouge's remastered outfit is a brilliant idea as it's now more children friendly, you know what I mean so stop starring at me like that... Anyway, Sonic Prime has EVERYTHING I wished for, but i'll still need to see the end of Sonic Prime and to watch further seasons!
I'm beginning to feel that the third movie might be the last Sonic movie. I just feel that for now on if they want to make more movies they do a soft reboot and do everything in animation. Especially if they want to tie Sonic to a potential shared cinamtic universe in the near future. Ben Schwartz could still voice him but perhaps find a new voice actor for Dr. Eggman, and maybe begin to start calling him Eggman and not too much Robotnik.

You're asking for too much in one movie. I remember saying this before there was an announcement for the sequel, and that is asking for multiple characters in the one movie would lead to similar results in movies like Spider-Man 3, Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, BVS, etc, where they crammed so much into their respective movies that they just became pile of messes all around. I actually thought adding in both Tails and Knuckles in 2 instead of just Tails alone was already too much, and a part of me was right considering that Tails unfortunately got the short end of the stick (perhaps it would've help if they cut that stupid wedding bit). Granted the upcoming Mario movie does include a somewhat handful of characters, so who knows I maybe proven wrong, but we'll just have to wait and see.
I strongly want to refuse if I had to discard my favorite movies of all time only to replace them with fully-animated ones filled to the brim with fan services like Frontiers. Live-action movies almost entirely different from and somewhat faithful to the source material at the same time have been my dream since I became a Sonic fan 10 years ago. When I want to see fully animated or bizarre art-style Sonic, then I'll wait for another game.
So you do make a good point in which that if it was fully animated we wouldn’t focus on the humans, cause I also hated that beach wedding scene in sonic 2, but I don’t agree with the notion that the sonic movies should have went all out like the Mario movie. sonic has more lore so it would be harder to cram all that in the first movie like the chaos emeralds, super sonic, tails, knuckles, shadow, to me they made the right choice of slowly introducing those elements, Mario barley has a story so they could cram all that lore in and it worked out for them.
3:01 I assume it took two movies because 1. They didn't have enough funding 2. They didn't want to introduce to many main characters early on and the first movie was just really to develop on sonic Edit: also keep in mind it's supposed to be a movie series we don't know if the Mario movie will be the only one
I think best way to get characters like Team Dark, the Chaotix, Blaze and Silver, would be to expand into streaming. The Sol Dimension is too big to introduce in a movie, but having a dedicated streaming series for it would be the better option.
I'm just saying that the reason they waited to put tails and knuckles into the second movie was because of the post-animated credits and to build hype for these new characters. I will give you credit for Knuckles though, since he wasn't teased.

Yeah,to be fair, the first time I Watch the first film, it didn't feel like a Real Sonic The Hedgehog Movie, it feels like a inspiration from Alvin and the Chipmunks with humans because the humans trying to make more screentime with them and Right next to sonic honestly, which Apparently Sonic movie live action was a great success for direction which I'm surprised to understand the fact to keep us happy with general audience
People need to accept the fact that the Sonic movies aren’t the games and never will be. It’s a completely separate canon from the games, not a wash-rinse-spin and repeat of what we already saw in the games. The problem is these fans want to Sonic Cinematic Universe to be a showcase of nostalgia from past Sonic games. That’s not original, interesting or creative. Paramount wants Movie Sonic and the other Sonic Movie characters to have their own identities and lives separate from the games. They don’t want Movie Sonic to turn into Game Sonic. Also, they want to explore new territories with Movie Sonic in the SCU that Sonic Team never explored with Game Sonic in the games.
As someone who loves the Sonic Movies (and is a bit of a nerd about about them😆), it would be pretty cool to see an animated Sonic Movie with Spider-verse style animation but I believe a full-on animated Sonic Movie might not work because Sonic has a huge story that might not be easy to put into just one whole film. I see the SCU as to where we see Movie Sonic as not just a different variant of Sonic but also a character where we see his origin story and his adventures in his world/dimension and they're able to put that into multiple movies. We even see characters from the games make an appearance in the SCU and learn their story as well with a bit of a different take but still the same characters we know and love. The films work live-action because of how well the story and characters are written and it's different from what we see from other Sonic media.💙
It was never going to be the Sonic movie we wanted, it's true. I wonder if, in many ways, The Mario movie wouldn't feel so confident doing what it's doing if the Sonic and Pikachu movies hadn't been successful first. In other words: did Sonic learn to run so that Mario could jump?
I actually disagree on your point about Tails and Knuckles taking too long to appear in the Paramount films. The first movie had to introduce the world, explain who Sonic is and set up a rivalry between him and Eggman, which would've only been bogged down if they also had to introduce Tails and Knuckles at the same time and detract from their characters to keep up with the rest of the movie as a result. Keeping Tails as the stinger allowed them to show they've been willing to have the extended cast, but want to save them for the second movie for fleshing them out. Tails is really the only character other than Sonic and Eggman who could've been introduced in the first movie, as he doesn't rely on Sonic and Eggman being established in order to work. MY complaint with the usage of the characters is actually that they've introduced forces like GUN and Shadow the Hedgehog way too early. Movie 3 should've been about Chaos. If they were to do an animated Sonic movie using the CG from Unleashed, Shadow, 06 and Colours, I would want the story to be based off Sonic Unleashed. It's got a strong tight focus, a good portrayal of Eggman, a small and quality cast of characters, and a good tone.
I’m glad they taking there time to put in source material because the only reason why I believe the Mario movie was so successful was because it just really had a simple plot stop browser save kingdom and the story wasn’t really the thing that made the movie great if not for the amount of source material no movie probably would’ve failed miserably quite honestly. The sonic movies on the other hand I’ll even say if it was animated it’ll even do a better job but it’s not tho it’s not it capture my attention and it did that without including a huge amount of source material to save the movie. 1st movie just throw in sonic and egg man and we will capture everyone attention with our story characters and action scenes even the regular moments with sonic just hanging out u are captivated by this character rather u know him or not. That’s why personally sonic movie is incredibly better than the Mario movie cuz it didn’t rely on source material. Same for second movie just like the second game…throw in tails and knuckles. That’s all we need throw in some Easter eggs and we good. Captivated audiences

Personally, I would have preferred animated Sonic movies, mostly because live-action adaptations of cartoony franchises tend to use the same plots over and over again. Paramount were definitely playing it safe with the 'cartoon character in the real world' and 'buddy roadtrip' story. Although I enjoyed the second movie far more than the first, I was still disappointed. No music from the games at all, only loose references to a couple of pieces. No further exploration of Sonic's world aside from one village and an exposition dump. The human characters take up more time than they need to, although not to the point where Tom feels like the main character, like in the first movie.
I love Mario and I’m super proud of the movie so hyped for it! I love the Sonic movies especially Sonic Movie 2! But why does Mario always have to beat Sonic at everything? Why can’t Sonic be better or be equal to Mario? XD Still who knows if a future live action Sonic Movie can come out and prove us otherwise.😇 Ironically The Mario Movie can actually help out with that too! EEP!🤩
I mean the story for the animated movie won’t make sense and dr egg man won’t be human. Just some guy that live in green Hill or whatever you called the place live action version looks better eggman is more human and sonic looks good and plus In the human world kinda make sense for shadow to appear in the screen that’s my opinion guys
The first Sonic movie was about the first Sonic game The second sonic movie is about Sonic the hedgehog 2, 3, and Knuckles games Sonic movie 3 will be about sonic adventure. 2. You don't have to introduce all the characters in one movie
For some reason I feel like making an animated Sonic movie would make it harder to make an origin story for Sonic because Sega has obviously never established Sonic's parents or Tails' parents or Knuckles's parents.
While I do like Sonic Movies, I'm just not that interested in Live Action media. I'm more so a guy that is into animated and cartoony media. If you tell me that I should go watch this Live Action movie or show because it's really good, I would most likely never watch it. It's not that I think that people shouldn't like Live Action, I am saying that I will probably never be interested in it. I think an animated film could work, but I can't imagine that reality because of the presence of humans in this franchise being quite a staple. i think what i would've wanted from an animated sonic movie is basically be an adaptation of the first game but with a more modern sonic and action anime feel to it i would also add tails, amy, metal sonic, and super sonic in there. i like the sonic movie we got but i won't lie when i say it wasn't really what i wanted from a sonic movie.

Am I the only one who's kind of annoyed that Sonic makes pop culture references? I get that he spent most of his life on earth, but still, it doesn't feel like the character. I've never saw Sonic making pop culture references in the videogames, series or comics. So why include it in the movies? So audiences will have a blast even if they don't know the character or the franchise? The Sonic I know is a sassy, fearless but kind hedgehog who would do anything to save his friends and protect his world from Eggman. In the movies? A dork teenager that loves referencing Fast and Furious movies thinking he'll beat Deadpool on who makes more pop culture references.
the pop culture references suck, I agree. especially since they're so US-specific. it really drags the movie from Decently Good to Just Tolerable. like how will viewers from other countries get why Sonic sang "worst"? how will they translate them? its thinking of those things that irritate me and keep me from fully enjoying the movie
I world like to see and animated movie of Sonic just with comic art style produces by Sony because i feel like Sonic have some similarities with Spiderman. because for example the concept of the spiderverse you can also do It with Sonic just like in Sonic prime talking about the shatterverse, Sonic going to different dimensions embarking in a journey of self-discovery. besides that Sega has the desire of connecting every piece of media where Sonic has been with that single tweet saying that "everything is canon" they want to connect the shows, games and cómics in a single universe. and i will also like that animated movie should have references from past Sonic games just like they Super Mario Bros movie because i feel they Sonic movies that we have i feel they are not a genuine Sonic movie because it doesn't adapt everything from the games because of the limitations of live-action so it should be better in animated just like that.
They were similar parts like that in Transformers movie from Micheal Bay, were it did GI Joe/Transformers, and it focuses more on the humans, those movies were far from perfect and not that good, except the first one,but they do have some good cinematography from the humans or even showcasing the robots themselves, maybe in the upcoming Rise of the Beasts movie, it could turn around
I agree they could’ve made the movies fully animated with a style similar to spider verse or puss in the last wish. I find I like sonic prime better than the movies because of its animation style. Do I feel like even the show could’ve been animated in a more spider verse style
Now, your getting interesting! Why did people think a video game movie Must be live action? Granted, if your doing something with more realistic humans like halo or metroid, then nuts!
I am completely fine with what we got as much as good that sounds of Sonic animated movie. The movies inspired my passion to get back in Sonic franchise and Sonic frontiers. I even got enough to make an cool well meaning oc as it means a lot. I don't think an animated movie would fix anything as we got Sonic Prime as an animated TV show.
I'm still in shock that Sonic Unleashed exists, and released like 2 years after 06. How tf did they just make a game with graphics as good as unleashed then go back to colors
Colors is on the Wii. Wii is less powerfull than X360 and PS3, plus Sonic Colors has pretty good grapichs for Wii but stages feels like mario maker levels thats why graphics look not very nice but graphics look good in 3D levels
I like the sonic movie itself, i think sonic Prime is kind of a sonic movie split up into different parts, the sonic Prime looks like a animated movie so the real life sonic movie is good but i do agree about the character problem we shouldve had sonic, tails, knuckles, and amy in the first movie but i am glad we have a real life film with sonic its unique and i wanna see the side of a real life film but they need to fix the character problem we need more characters sooner
Obviously you still need to have a good plot, good animators, design, etc. Being animated wouldn't inherently produce a good movie if everyone's asleep at the wheel. But the potential for insane inventive action scenes is through the roof once you've left live action and embraced how stylistic animation can get. Pair that with a property like Sonic which is all about over the top action and speed and you have a recipe for an awesome animated film. I've been pleasantly surprised by the live action Paramount films but they definitely don't live up to the full potential of what you can do with this property. I'd like to live in a world where one day we can have both.
