What if we had conversations without even saying a word, and instead used imagery and color alone? Ginger Huebner is a visual translator who guides people in building bridges between their inner most world - their subconscious - their emotions - to something visual and evident in their outer world. She shares about how her Create + Connect process leads people to have deep and meaningful conversations beyond words; offering new ways to see themselves, others and the world. Ginger is the founding director of Roots + Wings School of Art and Design in Asheville, where innovative art and design education programs are offered for all ages across the community. Her Create + Connect Circles and Portrait Workshops offer opportunities to transform, connect, re-build, and share stories in communities across the globe. She also serves as Visual Art Advisor to PBS for their Online Learning platform, Arts Curriculum, and the ‘Pinkalicious’ series. With foundations from both a Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters in Teaching Visual Art, she weaves a unique perspective into all that she does… as an artist, educator, facilitator and collaborator. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I love this and have experienced it myself, years ago in my first creativity class led by a local artist. It's wonderful to be heard through your collage and art, rather than words. I'm unable to collage anymore and have been wanting to ask my friends and family to collage for me. But I didn't know how to ask or whether it was feasible. This talk is my answer, opening doorways.

What an inspiring message of letting our creativity bring the connection that is so needed in our world. As an expressive arts therapist, I am grateful anytime someone amplifies this message. I loved hearing the specific stories that brought the power of creativity to life. And the imagery shared beautifully showed the power of the visual language. Thank you, Ginger, for giving your voice and your artful gifts to this cause. Create + Connect. Essential nutrients for humanity to thrive.

I have been taking pictures of flowers 🌸 whenever I take walks, and my pictures of and connection to the flowers I encounter feels like a different kind of communication. Also, there’s a gorgeous lyric in a musical that I love called “Ordinary Days” by Adam Gwon: “Things aren’t beautiful all on their own. Beautiful comes from reflection. Beautiful takes a person who makes a connection… You know what I mean? For beautiful to happen, the beautiful has got to be seen.” And I think that in your talk, Ginger, the beautiful got to be seen. Thank you for inspiring me tonight! Your words truly resonated with me… and of course (in keeping with your message), it wasn’t just your words, but the richness of the visual and emotional experience you shared that touched my heart. Again, thank you for that. ❤️

I used a twitter acc only for japanese digital art. Almost every day I tapped like or rt button about how i felt like it. weeks passed and when i realized, scrolled down and though "damn what a collection, this is my life in images with such a powerful emotion behind." I think If you are sensible enough, art drives you in to pretty deep emotions

Writing and reading are important for us to maintain a decent level of critical thinking (and thinking in general)... I'm talking about the common people, the simple men and women who are going to be estimated as useless in the near future (because of the radical technological advancement on AI etc.)... So, never stop writing, guys...

Art. It's art education that is taken away from schools today, by the school board. Cause Math, reading an English is more important. That makes me sick. I worked for a school for 11 years, not as a art teacher as a Bus driver. . I do artwork, The student councilor ask me to show the kids to share my Art. I did this on my free time. I did this four years. "TED's Talks" has a video that I love. "Do schools kill creativity? by| Sir Ken Robinson" The kids need that creatively to express themselves. The best of my 11 years as a Bus Driver. Ginger does a great job. wow

Having conversation through visual arts is not a problem at all; it's a sign language and one of ways of establishing communication, however. Instead, the most problem is when speech actors do not understand, at least, cultural semiotics and pragmatics in delivering and receiving messages using any visual art. It may become constrains and even meaningless communication. Besides, prehistoric people did communication mostly by sign language far before "Cuneiforms" discovered to prove early writings system.

Perhaps you haven't read. Published in 1611, the King James Bible speaks to all creation and creativity. Would you rather find a letter written from your mother to your father when she learns she is pregnant and with child. Or a drawing of two people, one whom has an extended belly. My brother graduated from RISD. So I'm familiar with visual arts. The picture is what you experience. The Word is how you understand your experience.
