Have you ever heard of those special events held in stores in Japan where 3 or so duelists take on one giant boss monster with insane effects and attack? It’s kind of like what you’re talking about here. You should look into that, it’s neat. As far as the topic itself I’ve always been partial to the idea of Planeswalkers in Yugioh. Cards that act as a second player rather than an avatar.

@@walman9356 It’s called Boss Duels and is something they do on Yu-Gi-Oh day in Japan. Basically a staff member role plays as a villain from the series and is equipped with an incredibly powerful deck. Up to three players can duel against them and their life points are 8000 times the number of players. Some of the monsters are anime counterparts of existing cards and some are unique ones like Don Thousand Monster C, which has 100,000 attack/defense and the win condition of “if you don’t attack this every turn you lose the duel”.

Watching the anime, I kept trying to rule things like, "A Deckmaster can only be summoned if you've passed a number of turns at least equal to its Level", or "This Deckmaster or that one specifically can't be summoned, hence why the Big Five kept missing obvious moments where they could have won easily if they summoned themselves." Too many exceptions, didn't work.

If the opponent were to tribute your deck master for their kaiju i think it would technically count as you losing since that tribute wasn’t intentional done by the player who owned the tributed deck master. I think the deck master can be used as summoning materials as long as its done by the deck master’s original owner.

The person who made a Deck Master template made a few rules that I would consider to be easy to implement. 1. Deck Master Monsters in your Deck are not treated as Deck Master Monsters unless they are chosen to be in your Deck Master Zone at the start of the Duel. Therefore, they are unaffected by any and all effects targeting Deck Master Monsters. 2. Both players start the Duel with their Deck Master face-up in their respective Deck Master Zone. 3. You can only have 1 Deck Master per Duel. (except by card effects/mechanics) 4. You can Special Summon it from the Deck Master Zone during your Main Phase. 5. If your Deck Master leaves the field to Summon a monster, or is used as a Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Material, that Summoned monster gains this card's Deck Master effects and is treated as your Deck Master Monster. If multiple monsters are Summoned this way, you choose which one gains its Deck Master effects and is treated as your Deck Master Monster. 6. If a Deck Master would return to your Deck or hand, it returns to your Deck Master Zone instead, except for Summoning. If it would return to your Deck or hand to Summon a monster, send it to your Graveyard instead. 7. Deck Master Monsters cannot be flipped face-down. 8. Possession of Deck Master Monsters cannot switch.

Great video as always. Amazing ideas. My guess would be that this would essentially create an entirely new game or like you said new prints and runs of cards. The balance tip in the favor of monsters with powerful floodgate effects is too step. However if you allowed deck masters to conduct attacks from their zone and allowed them to gain their abilities by using something similar to Gemini summoning. However since the balance of Yu-Gi-Oh has tipped to special summoning it should cost your normal summon and destroy all special summoned monsters to your side of the field. The monsters defense can be seen as health and can only be targeted for attack once you choose to defend with it or the other deck master chooses to attack. You can give lifepoints to being it back with that amount of hp. This way the spirit of starting a game of Yu-Gi-Oh well before the actual match (deck building phase) would really shine. You could choose to use your deck master as a shield, a sword, a spell that's black, red, white or blue or any combination of the two.

Vis a vis deck building restrictions, many Duel Links skills have restrictions where they can't activate, or have reduced functionality, if your deck at the start of the Duel did not fulfill certain conditions, an example would be Aigami's "Cubic Seeds" which gives his deck 3 extra Vijam the Cubic Seed cards, but in exchange, he must have no Extra Deck, and his main deck must consist almost entirely of Cubic cards, with a tolerance of iirc 6 non-Cubic Spells/Traps For lighter conditions, many skills demand a DARK, or Fiend only monster stock(and at least one monster), and many skills can induce summon lockouts like normal YGO cards on usage, such as the new Shooting Star Dragon support skill that locks you into WIND Dragons for the rest of the turn(The Stardust Dragon line Attr/Type combo)
@tiozuradasexatas6754
@tiozuradasexatas6754 3 года назад
My suggestion would be some alterations to the formula presented in the anime: Singleton Format: All cards are at 1 (Special restriction list can be applied to unlimit or ban some cards) Who can be a Deck Master: Any monster who can be Normal Summoned or Set. Monster Identity: Your deck should only contain cards from the archetype, or monsters with the same Attribute and Type, or cards which support the Attribute and Type. If even all the cards permitted in the pool aren't enough to make a 40-card deck, anything not banned can fill up the space left. Summonning the Master: Every summon of the Master is a Normal Summon and also a Dimension Summon (as seen on the Dark Side of Dimensions movie). If the Master leaves the field, it can go back to the Master Zone and will have a "Master Tax", with the Deck Master counting as a monster 2 levels higher for each time it was summoned in the time of its Normal Summon.

I like the idea of making deck masters limit your deck by type(s), attribute(s) and/or Arctype(s) & making new/retaining old cards for deck master versions. As that would make managing the cards power level much easier. But I'd like to add 2 other ideas: Specific summoning conditions & Total destruction conditions. Along with a few other random ones. The specific summoning conditions would be written similar to summoning conditions for extra deck monsters. Only they would need to be fulfilled to special summon you deck master, hopefully limiting the potential of summoning a 3k beater with no cost. And possibly future proof an eventual deck master that has different effects if it's in the deck monster zone or on the field. The Total destruction conditions would be the method which your opponent could destroy your deck master as an instant win. So if those conditions aren't met & you for used your deck master as a tribute summon, you deck master will just return to their deck master zone. I'd also imagine other small things like: Definitely limit a deck master summon to once per turn. Possibly have it so that if a deck master is returned to the deck master zone from the field it's effects are negated until the next end phase. Make Deck Masters immune to change owner effects. Maybe have sperate cards for the specific summon condition & total destruction condition (those would be on the same card) as to save on text space. OR make different SSC & TDC's so that players can have some unknown factor with there deck masters. Only revealing them to the opponent when they deck master is summoned to the field. Maybe have stronger deck masters work with specific cards, while general deck masters are weaker. Like maybe a Gemini Deck Master that can let you normal summon as many times as you want on your turn BUT they must only be Gemini monsters. But a generic Water Deck master just give a simple effect like once per turn a Water attribute monster you control can now inflict piercing damage, BUT it can only give this once per turn.

Could you expand on the Total Destruction Conditions? I am unfamiliar with this concept.
@pikagammerpluspizza7478
@pikagammerpluspizza7478 3 года назад
@@tcgtheory1147 Sure. Its not really a concept I think has any exact parallels in other games, or at lease ones I'm aware of. But I'll try & give a more detailed explanation. While cards like Extra Deck Monsters require certain monsters to be summoned, the concept of a Total Destruction Condition would be a reverse of this. The result of meeting that condition would mean the destruction of the Deck Master as long as it is acting as a regular monster on the field. I would imagine these conditions be somewhat unique for each Deck Master but I can give an hypothetical example. And sorry if I mess up exact yugioh terminology. I have a deck master version of Dark Sage & its Total Destruction Condition would be that *when a card that used a Dark Magician as a material or tribute is destroyed by an opponent*. Meaning that if I had this Dark Sage on the field at the same time as when my Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is destroyed, the Total Destruction Conditions would be met & I would instantly lose the duel. I would also have the conditions be directly linked to either the Deck Master's Special Summoning Conditions (Such as only after a card that has Dark Magician in its card text leaves the field) OR its Deck Requirements (Like it needing at least 20 cards that have the word Dark Magician in their card text) to be your Deck Master. This idea was main a way to adapt the idea of, if a deck master is destroyed then you lose the duel. While also trying to avoid confusions like using your deck master as materials for something else & this new thing becoming a deck master. I suppose answering the classic philosophical question, no my opponent's Kaiju doesn't become my deck master.

I recently jumped back into the game. So yes, I'm a casual. But, a few things I've wondered: What if all monsters had a normal (non-effect) type card in addition to their original (effect type) printing? Some cards don't give us backstory and I enjoy the flavor text on normal monsters. What if ritual monsters were extra deck monsters? I know there are archetypes based on ritual cards being in the deck and yes that would be messy. I just think that ritual monsters should have been in the extra deck from the get go. I'm ambivalent toward the idea of increasing the size of extra deck. Extra deck can be OP and the ramifications of it becoming bigger are beyond me.

Deck masters would probably need to have separate and exclusive abilities to each other. Similar to pendulums, a dm would have a dm effect and its regular effect, if any, and these would only apply in the corresponding zone/field.

"The Deck Master Zone" could take up an extra deck slot to have your deck master face up, leading to decision making of whether to play a deck master (with the deck buildign constants) or a 15th free extra deck slot for combos. You can even limit deck masters to only being extra deck monsters (having only fusion, synchro, xyz, and link deck masters or have them be a new seperate extra deck mechanic) and having to summon them by their extra deck methods so you can't just special summon whenever. Personally I like the idea of having Deck or Duel Spirits cards that can take the form of previously existing cards (Sprit of the Dark Magicians, Blue-Eyes Heart and Soul, Red-Eyes Eternal Flame), archetypes (Gamekeeper's Ancestral Guardian, Blackwing Perfect Storm, Valor of the HERO), or completely new ideas. Each of these have a deck building requirement, a minor continuous benefit similar to Speed Duels, and specific summoning condition. Some example could be having to play 7 CBs of different names for a Crystal Beast Spirit which requires 3 or more monsters in the spell/trap zone to be brought out, a pendulum spirit where you can only play pendulums and needs a difference in scales of 8 or more, activating 4 or more spell cards to bring out Spirit of the Dark Magicians, ect. I'd also have it where Deck Spirits return to their respective zones at the end of the turn/start of your next turn, maybe even having the more powerful spirits having negative continuous effects.

For anyone looking at comments on this video, yes, between when this was made and now they did announce a deck master format. No, it's not remotely playable. Yes, the best deck master is Last Warrior from Another Planet by a hilarious degree.

Just do it the same way the DBS card game handles deck masters, or leaders in that case, a monster that's always on the field in it's special zone. It can be attacked, you always lose life points if the attack goes through, and it can't be removed from the field no matter what. And it can always activate it's effects if the situation is right.

Maybe it will be better a better protection if a monsters effect as a deck master can only effect against your opponent's deckmaster(If it has some negative/positive effect). And it's monster effect will effect to the monsters or spells&traps on the field.

Another possible option is to limit the effects possible. Any monster you _started_ with as your Deckmaster in the show only had one overall effect, with any additional effects being ported into the Deckmaster ability (e.g. Nightmare Penguin). Wait...Super Roboyarou...ugh, never mind...

In YGO, DRAW only occurs if two opposing conditions are triggered by the same resolution So I would rule that by tributing the Deck Master, the player lost before its effect would actually resolve?

Unfortunately I don't think that Deck Master can ever be integrated into the Advanced Format TCG. They would have to print special cards to accommodate effects that are powerful enough to be interesting without becoming problematic. There are an absurd amount of floodgate monsters, as well as other monsters who would be highly problematic if they aren't on the field, as well as introducing ruling nightmares-think Accesscode (how would its effect to gain ATK from a Link in grave work?) A lot of the most degenerate cards in the game aren't an issue simply because they are hard to make or are weak to common types of removal. If Konami wants to use normal TCG cards as Deck Masters, I feel as though they would have to issue a list that includes a few legal monsters, as opposed to banning cards. That would allow them to experiment with the format's theming and power level without worrying about having an unplayable format. All that complaining being done, I would welcome seeing Deck Masters as a side event, similar to Commander in MtG, with possibly limited new product releases aimed specifically for the format. I think that with a judicious selection of cards I think having a one of that was otherwise an issue to find might be a welcome consistency boost to many decks.
