Farmer on the Prairie is about my life on our central Illinois farm. My name is Seth and I am a young farmer with the desire to get things done and to keep the farm running smoothly. The farm is 740 row crop acres and 100 acres of pasture. We run about 100 grass-fed cattle and 1500 meat birds a year. Throughout my videos, you will get to know Dad, MommaD, and Sister. My brothers Josiah and Luke help us whenever there is a big project so they can feel important. Because so many different things happen on our farm, there is never a dull moment. So tap that Subscribe button and come along for the ride!

I am 100% behind you on the electric grease guns. You have to wonder how many bearings are going to fail prematurely because someone stood there holding the trigger too long. If you use a manual one you can feel the pressure increase on the handle letting you know when you have added enough.

Long time subscriber here. Great to see you posting farming videos again. I had no idea that so much was involved in going organic and certainly never heard of transitional corn. Keep it up since it looks like i have a lot more to learn. Thanks for sharing - we love seeing your family all working together on the farm. Merry Christmas to you all and blessings in the new year.

Great appreciation for your attention to detail and doing things well! Seth Methods should be a course of studies in universities ~ hopefully replacing political science. Informative and interesting to see and hear your work and thoughts. Thanks Seth!

Is there much of a price increase for the organic corn vs regular corn to cover the cost of cleaning/storage of the bin?

Yes

Corn futures were today $6.44 per bushel, while organic corn is approximately $12.00 per bushel. I did see that organic corn yield's approximately 32% less, however is still a net gain for the grower.

@@dhenschel4 WOW...that is a big difference. Definitely worth it then. Thank so much for the info!!
@dhenschel4

@@miketownsend6163 Well there are other factors - the three years of prep time will take some bushels to pay off, but after that it should be smooth sailing. It is nice to just fertilize and let er rip tho.

There is also more in season costs as well as many more hrs on a tractor.

Looks like a 2208 head? How do you like it? I got a 2206 and it seems to have alot of head loss. Been talking to guys about it and they say that the 2200 series are known for head loss. . .

The jury is still out on the head. I ran the deck plates most of the way tight. It does have a calmer kit which sizes the residue very well. As far as the head loss goes you can either try 360 chains or you will have to go to a Drago series 2 or GT.

@@farmerontheprairie Thinking of going to a drago or capello.

Interesting to note that if the bin was not clean, you could not tell the difference between the standard grain and the so called organic.

There is actually a huge difference with the corn it’s self. It is on ground that has not seen chemicals in 3years and every price of equipment is cleaned and documented. If one step is done out of order we cannot sell it as organic.
