At the end of the day, it depends on personal preference. Not everything in life is about sheer mathematical calculations. If you value the freedom and peace of mind that come from having a paid off house, then make that a priority. If you value optimizing every dollar, then focus more heavily on investing.

it's always one or the other; why not do a little of both? if you're investing X a month take 100-200 off that and put that extra towards the principal on a 30 year conventional; you'll still invest and pay off your house 5-7 years earlier.

@classics-wz1bz I totally agree, it shouldn't be about one or the other. I like to do both.

You have to factor in the years gained by not having a mortgage leaving you more money to invest. Therefore catching up and some

I would volunteer for overtime to focus on paying down my mortgage. I was contributing 6% to get my company match. 6% of a 60 hours week with 20 hours at time and half is a lot more than 6% at 40 hours. That led me to believe it's ok to pay off my mortgage. I paid it off in a little less than 10 years.

Interest is RISK. At any interest rate, it’s RISK.

No. Interest is just an expense. The existence of a loan is the risk. Liabilities = risk. Can't live without some rush though.

Unless it's below the inflation rate, then it's profit

Don't even have to watch. Every single time a question is asked. "Great question. Depends on your situation." (Even though they just gave you their situation.)

Paying off the mortgage is a GUARANTEED 6%. I’d rather do that than buying into the stock market at all-time record-high, bubble valuations.
@SilentSputnik

The stock market has been guaranteed long-term thus far regardless of the 'all-time record highs'

If I was looking at a 6% interest rate I would probably focus on that as well. Tax free savings and all... but I'm currently looking at 1.89% so investing is the clear winner atm.
