#AllisChalmers #KubotaB3030
An old tractor with the motor stuck from sitting is pulled a few hundred yards to the shop. Prior to moving, a couple pints of diesel fuel was dumped down the smoke pipe. Just in case it breaks loose, the fuel will provide a bit of lubrication on the dry sleeves. Many times it just takes minimal effort to shake one loose, but this time the exercise does not work. No matter, the purchaser is a cousin who intends on a total rebuild of the old gal.
Taking advantage of free help, the Much Older Brother had stopped by to discuss a different problem so I got him to climb aboard the fancy and much newer '05 Kubota B3030 to give me a tug back to the shop so it will be a little easier to prepare the little tractor for its upcoming move.
But then again, I had to move the little guy by myself a couple hours after my help vacated the premisis....You'll have to tell me what you thought of that one.

Nice!! My AC "B" has the adjustable front end and I use it mainly for cultivating the garden. I also have the mid-mount sickle bar set-up for it. The tractor doesn't get used too much anymore but she starts right up when I need her. Believe it or not, I worked on this tractor to make it easier for my Dad to start (he had been pull starting it for years) back in 1998. I purchased the battery that is in it, in March 1998 (one week before Dad passed away) and it still uses that same 6V battery today! The battery is always hooked to a "Battery Butler" and has never failed to start. 😊😊😊

@tractorman4461 2 года назад
I've had much better luck as well with a Battery Tender but not quite that good of luck !! That's great to get that much life out of one. Allis makes a good easy starting tractor. That other B in the background will start with a quarter turn of the crank even with a blown head gasket. I'm still pretty bummed about this one.

Nice old tractor. I just bought a 1953 Allis Chalmers B from the farm behind me. They used it for cultivating tobacco until the government took away the tobacco subsidy and then it was only used in the garden. South central Virginia here was a big tobacco growing area. It comes with a complete parts tractor, an extra cultivator frame, lots of cultivator shovels, an original plow, etc. it has that bow axle also. It was fully restored in 2011. Nice family but unfortunately the husband died in 2018. This was his prized tractor. Most of my old stuff is two cylinder John Deere’s so this is a new adventure for me. Not sure I will be able to work on this old tractor because I am not sure what to do with the two extra cylinders, lol.

Man TBP, what a buy !! Naw, that Allis will be simple...actually 2 times simpler than any of the John Deeres because they have twice the amount of power pumpers !! I have actually worked on JD pretty much less than most of the other common brands. There just weren't that many farmers in this area that used that color green. Now there were a LOT of Olivers, Massey's and Farmall's though !!

Wendell, I had a WD that had water come in thru a rusted out small hole in the top of the muffler. It was a mess to say the least. Good luck to your cousin. I have been in that headache before. Diesel fuel, A/t fluid, some painters acetone and ALOT of elbow grease. haha
@tractorman4461

Oh yeah, been there and done that as well Michael. Being a good mechanic he won't have too much of a problem. I had a Massey Harris 30 under roof. I bought it cheap and it was running fine when I parked it. Ten years go by and its stuck tighter than a plug in a jug !! There was a nail hole in the tin roof perfectly aligned with the open exhaust pipe. Yep, that one got a total rebuild too. I put in new set of sleeves, pistons, rings...the whole shebang. And to think...it ran when parked !! LOL I've got an Allis C motor on an engine stand right now. All 4 cylinders filled with water...the list goes on.

on my allis B I got from an auction I thought I was keeping the water out cause I had the muffler covered then I realized the manifold wasn't like on a farmall h/ wasn't solid where the pipe meets manifold from muffler can't remember if the manifold also had a hole in it , but I was suprised too , to see water in cylinder, after that I started taking mufflers off and buying small tarps just to go over the engine no more problem. But is a pain to remove all the time and recover
@tractorman4461
@tractorman4461 2 года назад
I'm pretty sure that's how it got in this one too Bill. The smoke pipe just slipped loosely into the manifold, so it allowed the water to slide down the outside of the pipe and little by little enter the manifold opening. This one started out with a tarp, but it split down the middle in a couple years and I didn't change it.
@janbill79
@janbill79 2 года назад
@@tractorman4461 so the manifold must be a bad design by allis chalmers. There defect caused your to br locked and mine. Wonder what the solution is. maybe after market manifolds are normall
@tractorman4461
@tractorman4461 2 года назад
@@janbill79 I don't know. But a lot of manifolds are threaded internally for a pipe to be inserted into it and tightened. Not all of them obviously. Sometimes guys just take a piece of smaller black iron pipe or exhaust pipe and slip it inside the manifold opening. Then the bounce around the farm for years flattening out the threads to where the proper sized pipe will no longer thread into it. I'm guilty of the same thing but on many of them I will measure the outside diameter and go to the auto parts store and buy a short section of whatever size it takes to slip over the manifold. A LOT of manifolds are really short on the exhaust opening and a piece can't be slipped over it far enough to stay in place. Those you either have to 'chase' the threads and thread in the right size pipe or slip one inside, which creates the problem you and I found on our little B's.
@janbill79
@janbill79 2 года назад
@@tractorman4461 so they didn't come from the factory that way . I wondered? so farmers leave a loose pipe and wear out the threads from ever working with correct pipe again makes perfect sense thanks I had no idea
@tractorman4461
@tractorman4461 2 года назад
@@janbill79 Some are threaded, some are not. But if you do chase the threads if this is one of those, make sure you stuff a rag below the opening to catch all the shavings made by the pipe tap. I have done several larger tractors with 2'' threads and you don't want any shaving to enter an open exhaust valve. When done, use a vacuum cleaner to suck the top of the rag before you pull it out.
