Hi Alex, Giacomo here from Padova, northern East part of Italy. My CF is 8.3 and we'd need 3.7 planets if everybody was living like me. Given that I don't own a car, I ride to work and try to be as sustainable as possible in my consumptions, it was quite worring to know. Thanks for all your videos! Very inspiring to take action and forward the message. Great work 🙏👍

My name is Carson and I am also Canadian. My wife and I lived in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. We drove a large pickup truck and ahuge SUV, out home was big with three furnaces. We sold our home and our vehicles, shut down our business and moved to Colombia South America where we have only bicycles, no furnace and no airconditioning as its 23 degrees here every day 365 days a year. We still utilize electricity but here in Colombia its almost 100% hydroelectric. Our food is sourced from a 15 km radius from where we live as that's how they roll down here. We even buy clothing, cookwear and other products that are all made locally. I loved your video and I am excited to see just how much we have reduced our carbon footprint.

I am interested to know more about calculating products carbon footprint, we produce materials which contain cement, limestone, silica sand, and other chemicals, the construction products or building materials manufacturing industry still doesn't have alternatives, I mean alternatives to Cement, Steel, Wood and other similar basic materials. Now I need to know for example from supply chain point of view, I am importing X or Y product, I understand I can ask the supplier to provide sustainability report if I am interested to monitor my carbon footprint, but once the products are sold, how can I calculate the carbon footprint of the vessels or trucks shipping them, we have different vessels types (bulkers, oil tankers, container carriers and others) and also different types of trucks as well, we rarely import by air, so I would like to know the logistical carbon footprint particularly, and thank you.

I'll tell you right now quick fix on lessening your carbon footprint and this works and it works great, so just think of what produces most of the CO2 and methane emissions.well it's livestock cows pigs things of that nature animals that we slaughter and treat like crap and put into giant pens and shoulder-to-shoulder terrible situation for these animals so here's the solution everybody stop eating red meat stop eating red meat now so that the ranchers the farm the cattle ranchers and the farmers that produce these animals don't have a market for them,at least in the United States and then they'll stop producing so many animals to terrorize and bring the slaughter stop eating red meat you'll do the planet and all those animals a big favor plus you'll be a lot healthier for it

What about the CO2 produced in making the electric vehicle and it’s batteries.
@learnsustainability

They have to be taken into account if you are going to calculate the carbon footprint of the vehicle in production and in use. But you also have to take into account the other environmental impacts of battery production, raw material extraction (lithium, rare earth metals, etc.), chemical products used to extract them, etc.

Hi, like the video says at 5:57, more financial institutions invest into fossil fuel so your money indirectly generates emissions. There is no reason to feel bad about that, it is only the result of operating in a system where we need energy and the best and most reliable energy so far is in fossil fuels. It will change when we have other alternatives.

So I heard on the radio today that ordering things online, say through Amazon, adds to our personal carbon footprint, which I agree with due to the delivery of the item plus the production of the item etc...but my question is: Does driving to the mall to purchase the item create more or less of a carbon footprint than ordering online and having it delivered? There would be many variables of course, like how far is the mall? How many parcels are delivered on the same truck as your item? etc...but I am curious to see what anyone would have to say about it.
@learnsustainability
@learnsustainability 2 года назад
This is a great question and one that highlights the need for a framework to make decisions. My video on the definition of sustainability ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eec0UYGIeo4.html explains the root causes of un-sustainability and the one on the ABCD method presents ways to approach planning in complex systems ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J10CAkkAHFQ.html. As you mentioned, there are many variables and not one-size-fits-all solution but once you have the tools to think about it, you can start making good decisions for yourself. Maybe you should avoid fast shipping for instance and make sure you drive to the mall only once to get everything you need (and only what you need) and use the most resource efficient vehicle you can to do so, maybe bring a friend with you who needs to go grab something as well...

I am a cynical.... to make batteries you need lithium which is a pain in the arse to find and there basically isn't enough of it for everyone to have an EC. The whole thing is a ball ache. If you forget to charge your phone overnight.... not a big deal, take your charger to work, forget to 'plug' your car in you're fucked! You've got essentially 2 tons of scrap metal on your drive.

Don't know whether to fight pollution or warming, and they are clearly not the same thing. If you are concerned about warming, should know that at 70%, the main greenhouse gas is water vapor. In that hypothesis, both the excessive warming and the release of greenhouse gases are equivalent in a nuclear plant and a coal plant. On the other hand, the burning of vegetable fuels is neutral in terms of CO2 balance.

Green house gases are by nature supposed to be absorbed by trees and plants to grow. It is only because of an imbalance in nature caused by us where we cut down trees and also burn more fossil fuels that we have this problem. This means we really should be growing more trees and plants and not cutting them down as much as possible. We need to be regenerating a healthy eco-system that is more balanced. Our modern way of life living in the cities is unnatural and resource intensive and also unhealthy. We need to look at how our ancestors lived and strive to live simpler lifestyles that is also close to nature.

Yes, certainly. The video does not say electric cars are not better, it just says "in countries where a large portion of the electricity is produced from fossil fuels, electric cars have a good chance to produce a fair amount of CO2 as well."

@@learnsustainability, I know. Just sharing something I learnt in additional to what has been shared here with other people. 🙂 Because if I used to interpret it that way when someone else said the same thing.

A way to recycle human waste into food and drink is needed. Also recycling human bodies into food would help tremendously.

O mundo sofre. Não adianta ter uma grande economia, enquanto a Terra queima, é hora de parar de ser egoísta e só acusar. The world is suffering. There's no point in having a big economy while the Earth burns. It's time to stop being selfish and just accuse. comente isto em todo vídeo que você ver comment on every video you watch

Какая чушь все эти сказки про глобальное потепление. У нас в Питере стоят страшные морозы. В Сибири морозы. Это ж специально пустили для утилизации людей 😂
