Learn about checks in a way that's easy to understand. Understand their purpose, discover the reasons for writing them, recognize when they are necessary, and become familiar with the various parts of a personal check.
What is a check (or cheque) and how does it work? Learn the basics of checks, and the components of a check explained. A check is a paper you fill out that tells the bank to take money from your account and give it to someone else. Writing a check is like a promise to pay someone a certain amount of money. You write the name of the person who will get the money, how much money they will get, and when they can get it. You also have to sign the check to make it official. People use checks to buy things, pay bills, or give money to someone else. Although checks have been around for a long time, not many people use them anymore because we now have other ways to pay for things, like with our phones or credit cards. Presented in a simple, and easy to understand way for beginners.

Never seen this in real life. I usually make payments via Internet banking or bank phone app. Are checks really used often?

Checks are still used, but not as often as they used to be. Many people prefer the convenience of internet banking and apps, just like you. However, checks can be handy for certain transactions, like paying rent or when electronic methods aren't an option.

A check is a piece of paper that most places won't accept and most banks won't cash.... I never accept checks... cash only.
