this might be my favourite cs build I've ever seen. as far as I know you are the only content creator who puts this level of thought and care into the liveability of the city you build. it was really heartwarming to me that you put so much care into how the fictional city looks after residents who might otherwise fall through the cracks. those small details like making each corner unique as a marker for seniors who struggle with moving around, and providing housing for employees of the senior centers and school were very beautiful. it also really touched me when you acknowledged that often old people in real life are just kind of shunted around like cargo, which is very jarring and detrimental for them and in my opinion very cruel. we can only hope that real-life cities start taking these issues more seriously and improve in these ways 🙏
Wow, thank you so much. I build the way I wish the world was, and in some places it is changing for the better, but we have a long way to go until we get to a people first approach. Thank you as always for your support!
This build was something special. The thought put into it and the story behind it. I liked the little touch of naming houses after the 5B grandparents. And the views from pedestrian level and previews of what you're gonna build. Definitely a highlight of this season for me.
What a thoughtful and touching build, thank you for all the personal details and sharing about senior communities. I can only hope that when I reach that age and/or need that level of care, places like this will be more accessible. Love the little touch of naming some of the homes after builders grandparents too! Poached, Fried, Scrambled, Omelette ... hmmm, wonder who that could be 😛
My grandma had Alzheimer’s, I know how it feels. Seeing how society treats our elders, especially when they need us the most has definitely been an eye opener for me too. Thanks for sharing
i agree. modern (well really post-war) city design simply does not account for children or ederly at all. car-centric design is a social justice issue just as much as it is a health and environmental one
Joy! Congratulations on joining this series! This is one of your most thoughtful and best builds ever and it's chock full of so many "joyisms" we've grown to know and love. Beyond that, the editing and music are superb! I'm so excited to see your work getting the attention it deserves!
What a lovely, thoughtful addition to the city. Joy, everything you built was both gorgeous and so well thought out. That rail station was perfect for that area. I love all the communities you have added for people who are often forgotten or even shoved aside. As a 61 year old I would be thrilled to live in your senior village, as a parent of a special needs child I am delighted by your school campus, and having been a carer for both of my parents and my older brother, the assisted living facilities touch my heart. The only things your villages are missing could still be added: a church, a synagogue, and a mosque. For now I will assume they share space in the funeral home on the cemetery, but it would be nice for these kids and seniors (and their carers) to have a religious home of their own. (Absolutely not a critiscism, just a suggestion for someone else to add nearby.) Thank you for your beautiful builds, and the tribute to your fellow builder's grandparents touched my heart. Gave me a moment to remember my paternal grandparents, Charley & Pearl, my maternal grandparents, John & Lela, and my parents Carl "Mule" & Emmie. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing that with me. My brother was also in a wheelchair his whole life. We took care of him at home. My father actually became his full-time care provider. So I get it. I agree I really wanted to put places of worship in but there’s not any in the game. I try to do that in my own cities is make sure there’s some sort of place of worship within a short walk. I’m not religious myself but I see the importance it has in a community. Thank you for being here and again I so appreciate you sharing your own story. 💛
I love finding new builders through this series. I love your detailing work, and how thoughtful your builds are. Your editing style is also really fun, and the music is great. Looking forward to watching more of your stuff!
I finally had the time to watch this masterpiece. I love this build, your detailing is so thoughtful and idealistic there. The idea of this village is extremely valuable and I never heard of the concept of dementia villages, but it makes a lot of sense. As someone who worked with a lot of dementia patients with wildly varying degrees of decay for a month as part of early med school I must really say that this amount of care and dignity and respect you brought to life with this build is incredible. This build probably makes the life and work of both the patients and the caregivers so much more liveable and way less empty and depressing. Thank you for the ideas you shared for future builds and thank you for the little splash of awareness to specialized care. Thanks for reading, i wish you a nice day
18 min in and I want to live here! Had an idea in connection with the paths, adding toilets (4), just in case a citizen needs a pee break and doesn't have to go home. The paths can hopefully also be enjoyed by the rest of the public.
When Led Zeppelin finished Stairway to Heaven, they probably sat down and said... well now, isn't that just the best thing we've ever done? I guess you're feeling a bit like that after this build. Outstanding.
Great build, Joy - interesting and unique. Also love how you can go and knock out a quick park or school complex unexpectedly and still make them some of the best builds on the map!
Fantastic build! Love the additions to the city and the care and heart shown, informing people who might not often think about the elderly or even people who have to retire early because of reasons. Many people remember being young but we never know what it's like to be old until we actually hit that milestone ourselves. AND the build looks super pretty!
cool build 1- what about a senor health centre 2- a fence around the dementia village to keep people from wandering off and getting lost 3- bus line going to the train station
Aw, thank you! I did put in three different health clinics in the area. But a dedicated health center would have been good. I did put a fence around the whole thing I just didn’t show that on camera. I did go back-and-forth about direct access to the train but I think the walk through park is so lovely. But yes I think a bus specifically for those who have mobility issues would’ve been good.
Wow what a beautiful build, not to mention awesome imagination and roleplay. I took care of my favorite Aunt for 2 years ❤️ after she needed care for Alzheimer's. I went from Teresa to that girl. Where is that girl? She was scared, she reset about every 30 seconds. I made her feel safe. Emotionally for me, it was devastating, but I made her quality of life great at that time.
Gee, Joy! You have TWO collabs!? Greedy girl! (And lucky us!) Right off the bat, I loved that station, feels contained, edge of town but not rural. At 5:56, high-speed dog tail wag! (This is gonna be a long episode? Much joy.) The editing feels so dynamic, I like the peds interspersed with the construction, lively. Normally I don't like too much RICO, cities grow more organically than that, but for a designed community, I see it now, it is perfect. 10:18 Mmm... feels like Larry could make left and right versions of some assets. Anyway, Larry is a genius! 11:59 1 by 1 shop detected! Yep, this is a JBC build, alright! (you can tell 1 by 1's are my jam) Sandstone looks so good. Almost to good for my poor self. I like it. 17:45 What a wonderful idea, a town to grow old in. So beautiful! More private schools should have soundtracks that bop this much! 22:40 So much colour on those trees! I'm glad that you talked about your grandmother. A lot of people don't like to broach the subject, but it's a subject that breaches us all, sooner of later, we must be prepared. Pastel buses! Joyful! A dementia village seems wonderful. Expensive, but wonderful. Maybe we could take your metaphor a bit too far and choose a "Truman" to follow IRL ad try to monetize the village? Just the dystopia flavour de jour! Surprised you didn't add more power generation, 150%ing it is seldom a good idea, no? 30:18 Education still low?I thing the 5B's have to take responsibility! 34:07 No weed for Peggy! LOL The gramps names thing was SO CUTE! (Fried & Omelette, LOL2) An empty spot for the metro! Lets evict the neighbours, anyway! LOL3 The highway needs sound barriers! And it was a long episode, but it went by so fast! Thank you, Joy, you made my day!
Great build Joy! Very thorough and well thought out! Your asset placement was on POINT! Love the story that you were able to tell with your build as well, all round fantastic addition to a wonderful series!
Absolutely great. It was like 3 or 4 episodes of the 15 minutes city into this video. Loved every bit of it. Can't wait to be demented and live there, lol. Great work Joy! Great addition to the build!
What an outstanding build...So much thought and love were put into this build. I could definitely see myself moving here whether I'm a senior or not!!! I love all the detailing you did without taking up the entire episode. Superb music choices as well. Would it be too much to ask for a detailed music list? Shazam (what an app!!) got several but there were some songs where either you were talking or they had not yet been indexed. Specifically, the song playing @ the 39:52 mark. I've subscribed because you do some phenomenal work!
That was very entertaining... You made a very beautiful addition to the city. Btw when trying to uphrade that 5-way (4-way?) intersection with bike lane, CTRL-A and you could've done it. But MUCH respect for sticking to a modless playstyle. it's not easy considering the hundreds of AAA mods out there and many many more which are good too. Cheers !
Hey Joy, really nice project, love the dementia village concept and your obsession for detailing, it was really cool to discover your talent through 5B1C ♥
Girl you keep doing this to me everything I'm interested in! Every city is planning every kind of community! I am hyped I was just looking into dementia villages. I'm still new to your channel. But I'm definitely going to subscribe.
you have created 4 beautiful neighborhoods, but only one is connected by public transport, the other three, especially those with "old people", have no transport at all well, at least you could have pulled the buses and connected them to the train station or even better, a subway station in every block and a connection to the city center, and a bus line or tram going round through those blocks and you lack a little warehouse to support the commercial sector
Thank you so much! Well, with the dementia village I wouldn’t want them close to public transit in case someone wandered off much easier to find them if they’re just on foot. As far as the 55+ community there is the little circulator bus and that moves them around pretty nicely. I built them their own little city where everything is within walking distance. And it’s just a short walk through the park to get to either the metro or the train station. I do think the neighborhood I built for the employees would benefit from some public transit.
@@JoyBuildsCities your block is one of the most beautiful parts of the city, and it is easily possible that it will become the center due to its location that's why it's important that you organize public transport and logistics (warehouse for the commercial sector and the post office) well at the beginning, later it will all be bursting at the seams, because all the other builders leave the logistics to "someone else". and then later they wonder how part of the city is dying
