Every operator should have a dummy load. In fact, EVERY service technician working on radios, measuring power or adjusting transmitters have and use a dummy load. There are also dummy loads used for audio amplifier testing and for power supplies as well. Check out this video, it will answer your questions.

I've always meant to get a dummy load, never realized how inexpensive they are. This one is on sale now at HRO for $65...same price at GigaParts. Thanks. 73, Chris.

This one not that good and way overrated and you be lucky you get a more then a couple of seconds at the power it rated for without it burning up. A true 1.5k dummy load is oil filled and much larger and can handle the power continuously without overheating, but cost $200 bucks, or more. You can find them used at meets, or eBay cheaper, just have to watch for deals, recommend the large Bird, or Termaline as they are built the best and way underrated. We use the birds for commercial and out in the field use when testing 2 way transceivers and they last a lifetime. That MFJ is junk, but better then nothing and ok if limited to a couple of seconds, or low power.

put a fan on it and it will handle more power for longer. your feedline to the dummy load will contribute to the inaccuracies in various frequencies.

I need to buy about a hundred of these and hand them out to all of the local CBers so they'll quit yelling AAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO all day long, lol.

I hate that and feel like doing the same I heard someone on the HF band that was whistling and yelling Testing today on the HF band and clearly doesn't know how to tune as a bunch of splatter as well and clearly it was a amp he was tuning as can hear the loud fans in background. Yes CB techs as well are know for this and yes commonly yell AAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO all day, in a area that truckers live.

Onto many dummy loads it is written 3GHz. Are good for testing power in 136-500 MHz range ? (radios within VHF and UHF bands)

I'm new to Ham radio and my question is can I use the MFJ-264 on a Xiegu G90 when I get it?
@AlvinMcManus
@AlvinMcManus Год назад
I believe so, but the 1.5kW PEP model is a bit overkill. the 300 watt PEP is more in keeping. I have a G90 as well so the lower power one is what I'll be getting. I don't anticipate pushing out full legal limit for the foreseeable future.

I dont think they could make a perfect one considering resistance will change with heat.
